The tour starts with a ride up a "free-standing" escalator that takes you up 8 floors non-stop and is supposedly the only of it's kind in the world. You are taken to a viewing area that's a simulation of the control room (which includes an outline of CNN's history), followed by a sample studio and then get to walk around (but not inside, of course) the Research Room and Broadcasting Studio of CNN as well as HLN. The tour ends with an inspirational 4-minute video about journalism in general and CNN in particular.

There are some interesting things like how the weather charts appear and one interesting photography trick they show you, but that's pretty much it.

It's a 50-minute tour and for $15 (regular) I think it's worth it, but I wouldn't suggest dropping something off your itinerary to go see this.

I would also not recommend this for families with kids younger than 5 - they will just get too bored and will want to be running all over.

Me and my friend went on the CNN Tour in April 2011. I think it was around $20.

The tour itself isn't the most exciting I've been on, but it's not going to be touring a news centre I suppose. They basically just walk you around the top of the CNN Centre and you find yourself looking through large windows most of the time instead of in the actual studios.

An average tour, I wouldn't recommend it to people unless they are just looking for something to do...

After paying $16 to go on the tour, you are put thru a security screening that puts the TSA to shame. Crowded in with about 30 other people and fractious children, we were herded through narrow hallways and peered in windows where there was nothing to see. Canned speech from an intern. I wanted to see new shows in progress and technology. Tour ended in gift shop. No bathrooms during tour.

Went to CNN news studio tour today..The security was great. There is a security check point and you will have to empty pockets and go through metal detectors. Lots of security guards throughout the tour. Tallest free standing escalator in the world! Opportunity to see a breaking news cast. Awesome gift shops. Super great food court area outside. Even though you ride the escalator up, you walk down LOTS of stairs on the tour. **one downside, we arrived when a tour was just starting, so we had to wait 40 minutes for the next tour, but with so much around in the "Mall" area, it was no problem.

We took the Morning Express tour - I booked it online far in advance as it is held only once per week and it fills up quickly. There were only 8 people on our tour. We were able to see into the studios and watch the broadcasters at CNN, then we went into the areas where the writers and researchers work - then - into the control room for the Morning Express show! The director took time to talk to us during a break, then we were able to watch the action in the room where they cue the cameras, the text on the screen, cutting from one story to another. Next - into the actual studio where we watched Robin Meade broadcast live (yes, in the studio!) - and our group was on TV as the camera panned by! Then we got to meet Robin and take pictures. She's a lovely woman and took an interest in each person she met, taking time to interact with everyone individually. This tour was the highpoint of our trip to Atlanta!
