If you're visiting Atlanta, don't miss walking around all of the intown neighborhoods-- Virginia Highlands, Inman Park, Grant Park, Candler Park are all wonderful pockets of lively street activity, beautiful outdoor spaces, local shops and good food. I grew up down the street from Virginia Highlands. In the past ten years it has lost some of the original spunk and eccentricity that it once had, but it's still a pleasant enough place to spend an afternoon with friends. Moes and Joes may be the only long time establishment (other than the Hardware store) that still feels original to the area, but you'll find a great collection of restaurants and shops to entertain you. Walk down Virginia towards Inman middle school and you'll find a nice park to spend the afternoon with kids as well.
