“reflective”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

The whole experience left me so deeply moved and saddened. I don't know where to start. The eternal flame, the tombs of Dr and Mrs King, the chapel, the mural of his life, the centre itself.

Take your time to sit in the chapel and reflect, you don't need to be religious..and please do drop a coin into the collection box when you leave, so few appear to do so.

“Worth the visit but frayed by the conditions...complain to NPS and your Congressman”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

It's hard to designate the number of stars. I couldn't quite bring myself to give it a 5, but the life it celebrates, all by itself, deserves at least a 4. The location is a powerful statement. Dr. King's birthplace about one block from Ebenezer Baptist Church where both he and Daddy King preached. They have preserved 20 plus acres where with relatively little imagination you can conjure young Martin playing as a boy in segregated Atlanta. There were no more tour spots of the birthplace available the day we were there so we didn't get to see the inside of what many characterize as the best part of the visit. We did go into the church which is very simple and beautiful, fully restored to 1960s specs. The main center has elements that were very good...the video was uniformly powerful. There is also a section of street with full size sculptures of diverse people are walking toward light that was very well done, allowing pictures of members of your party standing among those that came before, walking the same route. But the main exhibits are not very well done but more, they are not kept up. It very difficult to read the various signs and inscriptions, made ll the more difficult because a substantial number of the lightbulbs in each location that were supposed to illuminate the exhibit were burned out. I find it very disappointing that the National Park Service, Congress, whoever has allowed the frayed character of the exhibit. Some of the grass outside was not neatly trimmed. The concrete sign at the entry was slightly discolored. It all had the appearance of something done on the cheap, not an exhibit of important years in the life of one of the single most important players in American history who continues to serve as our conscience in so many ways. We can do better and should. So by all means go. But when you get home, write your Congressman and the National Park Service and complain.

“Great experience”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

This is a great place to take children to learn about the influence of Martin Luther King Jr. The video feeds are full of information and the museum is set up for all ages providing abbreviated information cards for younger children. The parking is free, it is easy to find, and takes about an hour and a half to two hours if you read and watch everything. I encourage everyone in town to stop by.

“Very educational”

The exhibits of Dr.King and videos of his struggles were clearly displayed at the site. A true appreciation of his determination to fight injustice and seek equality for all people.

“Very cool historic site”

A cool place to stop by and get a good feel for Mlk jr history. Tours of his house are free but come early to make sure that you get a space.
