Owner description: This extraordinary zoo, one of the oldest in the U.S., underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in the 1980s and is still expanding. Its landscaping replicates the natural habitats of the numerous animals, some of which are endangered species. Four panda bears from China delight the crowds, and groups of gorillas separated by moats do their own share of entertaining.

“Awful zoo”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2009

The only thing worth your time at this zoo is the pandas. Even then, you will pay an enormous fee just to get in. This zoo is outdated and old school with small enclosures and not many animals. Once you have traversed zoo (all of a 5-minute walk), you might stumble upon the turtle exhibit, which consists of some homes that seriously look like small dog houses with asphalt roofs. Check out the tamarin exhibit that has not one real plant -- it looks like Hobby Lobby threw up a bunch of fake plants and then someone came into, to add insult to injury, and painted some fake foliage on the walls. The train ride, which costs extra, lasts a few minutes and takes your child through some tunnels....

Enter at your own discretion.....

“Worst zoo I've ever seen.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2008

I lived in Atlanta for about 9 months and I visited the Zoo twice. I've been to many big city zoos and Zoo Atlanta is by far my least favorite. I will not visit this zoo ever again. For the size of the Atlanta metro area, the zoo is tiny--shockingly small, actually. Compare its tiny size with its large admission price ($18.99 for people 12 years old and older, $13.99 for children 3-11 years old, the Zoo offers discounts to seniors, college students, and military personnel at $14.99 per such person). It's a total waste of money.

It's not all bad: Zoo Atlanta has a very nice Asian River Otter exhibit and its Giant Panda exhibit is very good. Overall, however, the Zoo is very small and its exhibits are disappointing.

After both visits, I was left with the feeling of, "that's it?". I will never again waste my time or money by going to Zoo Atlanta.

“IT IS HOW MUCH??????”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2008

Well gas is going down, which is good, so we decdied to go ahead and get the "zoo trip" out of our way. First of all do NOT park at the Grant Park zoo sign. You have to walk a ways to get to the zoo and dodge all the people trying to sell you stuff and beg for money, but did hear a nice version of "love shack" on the way to the zoo from the park.

Then the gates.... you wait in line, not so bad, and then 18.99 for an adult and 15.99 for a kid!!! WHAT??!!! That is a lot. Us being a family of five made us broke. Of course food is pretty pricey in the zoo too, but that is to be expected.

Be prepared to WALK..... up hill....down hill, side to side... walk....walk....walk.

The exhibits are pretty nice. A lot of them obscure your view of the animals. The animals must know where to hide to not be found. The baby panda that is advertised is shown on a clsoed circuit tv camera, but not on display. The zoo is neat in that it has pandas and gorillas, but everything other animal is typical zoo population. Really not impressed at all.

The petting zoo, ie "goat petting zoo", was cute, but you can not feed the goats.

A good thing is that if you ride the carousel it is $2 a ride, but parents for children under 42" are FREE. It lasts about two minutes.

So you might not get robbed when you are outside the zoo, because there is security, but you will feel like your wallet was robbed coming out. Hey, its for the kids though.... right?

Suggestion- it is cheaper to go to Pine Mountain ride through zoo and they have a lot of the animals you see at the zoo, and you can pet a bunch of animals from your car. It also has problems, but the price is better.

“nice relaxing stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2008

Zoo Atlanta is a half day visit spot for those who wanted to have a relax day and a light attraction visit. The size of this zoo is not too big and not too small either. It is just right for a day with your kids.
I enjoyed the Panda and their baby while they eat and play.
The park out side of the zoo is a nice place to have a family picnic. It would be nice to come early to the park, have some BBQ with your family and when you are done, put all things in your car then make the zoo visit.

I go to this zoo every year. While I enjoy the displays and animals, it just kinda bothers me that it is so expensive and I see nothing new, year after year. I just don' get it. If the entry fee was less expensive I would say it was a good deal, but its near $20 per person. Questionable value. Same with the aquarium. Too expensive.
