Owner description: This extraordinary zoo, one of the oldest in the U.S., underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in the 1980s and is still expanding. Its landscaping replicates the natural habitats of the numerous animals, some of which are endangered species. Four panda bears from China delight the crowds, and groups of gorillas separated by moats do their own share of entertaining.

“Lots of Animals”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

Seems like you never run out of animals to see!!
First - Big Hint: if you want to go on the train or carousel, get there early and go straight to them before you see the animals....lines are LONG.
Pandas (babies especially), gorillas (babies especially), birds, reptiles, giraffes, elephants, lions, tiger...they're all there and more.
Good layout and viewing stations...little hilly for seniors so take your time.
Food was OK...what you expect for a zoo.

“Small but wonderful”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

The zoo is not very big but it is beautifully designed, easy to get around, and has a wonderful collection of animals. I went specifically to see the pandas but enjoyed all of the other animals as well. The grounds are well cared for and the animals' enclosures are properly maintained.

“Really nice zoo.”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

We have visited several large zoos. The attraction here was the baby panda bears and the baby lion cubs. We apparently chose the busiest day to go to the zoo. It was packed and with only a couple restaurants, they were mobbed with very long lines. The gorilla exhibit was very good and we stayed there a long time. The panda exhibit was so mobbed with people that we really didn't get much time there. We wanted to go back to the panda exhibit in the afternoon, but the line was so long at that point it would have taken us 30 minutes to get in.

“Nicely laid out zoo.”

Nice little zoo. Priced ok except the extra "rides" are pricey. They have special deals at their ticket booth. If it's busy there will be a line.

“Overcrowded and Small”
Reviewed March 23, 2014

Very disappointed with visit to Zoo Atlanta. Too many people in what is essentially a very small zoo. Even hard to walk on the paths due to crowds! They admitted far too many people.

The gorilla exhibit was outstanding. The highly-touted pandas were ok but much better displays in other locations esp panda research facility in. China.

Impossible to get anything to drink or eat due to hideously long lines. Trash everywhere.

Go to see gorillas only and see much better animal exhibits in Miami or San Diego
