Owner description: This extraordinary zoo, one of the oldest in the U.S., underwent a multi-million dollar renovation in the 1980s and is still expanding. Its landscaping replicates the natural habitats of the numerous animals, some of which are endangered species. Four panda bears from China delight the crowds, and groups of gorillas separated by moats do their own share of entertaining.
Useful Information: Activities for young children, Activities for older children

We took our grandson for his second visit It was a beautiful, sunny day with low volume of crowds due to slightly cooler temps. The renovations to the zoo seem complete, but were not much of an improvement. The animals all seem way too far away to hold the interest of small children, and they blend into the surrounding making them hard to see. The exception is the pandas, which make up for other low points. The treehouse part is nice, although not many animals to see from it. Our grandson loves the train ride at the end. Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC is a better zoo by far, as well as obvious ones like San Diego, etc.

Love the Atlanta Zoo! So much to see and do--expect to spend most of the day to be able to take your time and visit exhibits!

My wife and I have been to many zoos around the country. Zoo Atlanta is very nice for a family to go see. Not the biggest zoo, but very interactive for children. I would recommend to see the primates at the zoo.

Being from Birmingham AL, I was really shocked that the Atlanta zoo was such a let down. While I have always enjoyed the Bham Zoo, I assumed being in a bigger city would mean a nicer bigger zoo. Not the case. The animals are in dirt habitates, not much effort put into their surroundings. Disappointing, but there are animals so the little kids probably wont notice so much about the lack of attention to detail here. Way over priced for what you get. Also in the "petting zoo" they have animals tagged as biters. Really???

Love visiting the zoo just don't get there like I used to. Great animals, special exhibits, and landscaping. The overnight camp is a lot of fun also
