“Hidden gem”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

The tour allows access to only a tiny proportion of the cave and its paintings, but is well worth a detour. It's quite humbling to see the paintings and get a glimpse of life millenia ago.
Wear shoes with a non-slip sole as it is quite slippery in spots, but you don't have to be super-fit or a mountain goat to cope.

“Extraordinary cave drawings”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

I agree with previous reviewers that this under-the-radar site is VERY special. The 32,000-42,000 year old drawings bring new meaning to the word "old." Wow. Wear good shoes, bring a sweater and prepare to be awestruck. Follow the instructions others have written for access and tours.

“Experience of a lifetime”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

This is a once in a lifetime experience!!! In our previous trips (to France) it has been nearly impossible to see ACTUAL cave drawings in most caves - we have been seen replicas - this is a REAL cave - and REAL paintings from prehistoric and paleolithic times. Also - the drive there is spectacular through beautiful mountains.
The tour last about an hour - we just showed up around 11 am and were fortunate that a tour was beginning at 11:30. Wear good shoes...it is slippery.

“An ordinary person can experience an extraordinary jewel.”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

Forty five years ago my husband visited the Pileta Caves He was so impressed as a young man that we have been looking forward to visiting for years. We were not disappointed!
The unspoiled, pre-historic nature of the caves are beyond description. Few people in the world have the opportunity to see such a sight.
All previous reviewers are correct in saying that the guide, who speaks good English, is great, but that the conditions in the cave and leading up to it are unimproved (poor lighting, slippery steps, etc.). Hooray! If the cave were commercialized it would be ruined.
What a fantastic opportunity.

“Superb vist , pre-historic cave paintings, limited access”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

Visited from Ronda, approx 20 K by car. Pre booking not possible, unless a group of 15+. We arrived for the 16.00 tour and were successful. We were told by Tourist Office in Ronda that if 6 turn up the tour takes place and maximum numbers are 25 a tour. Tour lasts 'about 1 hour', ours was 1&1/4 hours. Good guide with good english. The highlights are the cave paintings which are wonderful. There are many steps in the caves, the floor is a bit slippery and not for those with mobility difficulties. No pictures can be taken, there is no permanent lighting and the tour is lit by the Guide's torch and lanterns provided to those taking part. This means there is non of the contaminating plant and algal growth usually seen in more commercial caves. At least as good as the more famous caves in the France. Thoroughly recommended. 8 Euro entrance fee, check out their website. Water, cans beer and cola available for purchase , no food, cards and book available
