We've been lucky enough to go to the Molino a few times now, and have been really impressed on each visit. Most recently we went in August, and the restaurant was like an oasis in the baking heat. Nice cool, relaxed setting, with very friendly service. And the food is excellent - definitely not the standard Spanish restaurant food (which we do really like all the same!), this is definitely a cut above. Really well thought through dishes with great flavours. Pudding was slightly less impressive than the starters and main course, but overall a great experience. We were there as a couple this time, but have been with family before, and would highly recommend it for both.

This is a fab place! The food was brilliant, the setting was amazing with a river running by the dining area, and the staff could not have been friendlier. I really got the sense that the people working here love what they do, and it shows! I will definitely be back, not just as a customer of the restaurant, but as a guest at the hotel, too. After having a quick peek around the place, it looks simply idyllic, and judging by the reviews of others, it is just that!

The best tasting food I have had in this part of the world easily! Starters, mains were equally amazing with a very reasonable wine list!

Sitting in the outdoor restaurant area, under the shade of the weeping willow and parasols, listening to the relaxing sound of the water rushing by we tried to remember exactly how many years it had been since we'd been sitting in almost exactly this spot the last time we visited. It had been 17 years we realised, but it seemed like nothing had changed. And that's a good thing, since everything was pretty much perfect. Except perhaps that this time it was rather hotter than last time since we were there on a scorching 38 degree day.

The setting is still gorgeous - once you've negotiated the somewhat less-than-attractive part of Benaojan to get there - and the food is even better than we'd remembered it. Surprisingly good in fact, and we struggled to think of when and where we'd had a better meal. Service was friendly with the main waiter having a good sense of humour putting everyone at ease as well.

We had starters of a cold almond and garlic soup, which was served with an apple sorbet (an unusual combination that worked surprisingly well) and a prawn papillote, which was delightfully light. Mains consisted of a braised pork (lighter than it sounded), a risotto, and a seafood Lasagne. Desserts included a white chocolate mousse and a banana "sunday". This all from the 27-euro set menu, which I think presented very good value.

El Molino del Santo is a charming place to spend an afternoon over lunch (and no doubt a very pleasant place to spend a few days in the hotel). On top of that, the cuisine really does impress. Well worth a trip to Benaojan.

The last time I was at Molino del Santo was 17 years ago when I was 15 years old. When we returned to Andalusia this year, this gorgeous garden restaurant was front of mind. The gardens and outdoor dining area were exactly as I remembered them - lush, green, blooming with flowers and relatively cool, even taking into consideration the stifling, almost 40 degree heat of the day. I'll be honest - the gushing water of the mill was more torture than it was pleasing but only because I was dying to jump in and cool off!

The restaurant (and hotel) is an oasis - a paradise even - in a perhaps not-so-nice part of a small village. It wasn't the easiest to find and I suspect that for the hotel stayers, it is best suited as an escape whereby you don't leave the hotel or a base to explore the towns in the area (for which I'd strongly recommend a car!). For us, it was the perfect stop over after a morning and Ronda and before our return home to Jimena de la Frontera.

I've gotten used to and actually really appreciate the simplicity of Spanish food. Singular flavours, meat or fish often central to the dish and what you read on the menu is exactly what you get. Molino was different - but better different. The food was still simple but in a surprising and unexpected kind of way. My starter - a garlic and almond soup with dill, grapes and an apple sorbet was the perfect refreshment and strangest but tastiest combination of flavours on such a scorching hot day. Time and time again I'm blown away by how much more affordable good food is through-out Europe than in my home country of Australia. This restaurant offered a 'menu' (a set menu of sorts with three options for starters, mains and desserts) for 27 euros that more than delivered on value and exceeded expectations.

Now, to try and recreate that soup at home. I cannot wait another 17 years until I have it again!!
