The Village Inn of Woodstock
Ranked #3 of 15 Woodstock B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 4, 2012

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending 3 nights at the Village Inn during the 4th of July week. Our hosts, Evelyn and David Brey, made it a memorable experience. The Inn is decorated to provide that wonderful Victorian feel so many seek in a B&B -- one of the best I've seen. Take your choice of the front porch, a private upper deck, or a beautifully landscaped garden for a little relaxation outside. We had an informal dinner in the garden one night -- cheese and fresh bread that we bought at the farmers market, pâté, fruit, and of course a bottle of wine. Evelyn graciously provided all of the dinnerware we needed. I would highly recommend the Village Inn of Woodstock.

It was a pleasure meeting you, I am delighted that you enjoyed your visit with us. The Market on the Green on Wednesdays is just great, so glad that you liked it as much as I do. I'm thrilled to see guests enjoy the terrace, and am always happy to help organize a picnic. The terrace is my favorite place to be in the summer, too. We hope that we'll see you again soon!!!

The Village Inn of Woodstock is an absolute delight...to all your senses. The Inn has been meticulously redone. The public rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. The guest rooms are luxurious and thoughtfully done (including free WIFI). The gardens are lovely and inviting and all the spaces are filled with the good taste, luxury and touches of whimsy that Innkeepers Evelyn and David have so lovingly put together.Breakfast at the Inn is homemade, local, and delicious. It's great to be able to park your car and walk to town to shop or browse the art galleries or enjoy a good meal. We stayed at the Inn on our way farther north and then again a few days later or our way back. When we walked into the Inn the second time it was like coming home! Evelyn and David are perfect hosts! We totally enjoyed the Inn and look forward to returning.

This B&B in Woodstock is difficult to fault when it comes to room facilities, decor or quality of the breakfast. However, we were a little disappointed with the atmosphere and the lack of genuine interest by the innkeepers. Everything seemed very business-like. Only 2 minutes after our arrival and before we had even seen the place or the room we had already paid the bill at some sort of ticket office. Then we got a short tour of the B&B, were shown to the bar (open until 8 pm), heard about the house rules (mainly about not being allowed to have our own alcohol outside the room, apparently due to Vermont liquor laws), were shown a file of local restaurant menu's and were finally guided to our room.
After returning in the evening (after 8 pm) we asked for 2 wine glasses but we were curtly told that this was impossible - because not allowed by law and/or licenses - and that we had to use the tumblers in our room if we wanted to drink our own wine. Never been to a B&B or hotel where the use of wine glasses is refused. A pitty. And a funny way of showing exemplary hospitality. We felt like customers, not guests.

I am so glad that you enjoyed our Inn in general, and am sorry that we did not make you feel as welcome as we would like each and every guest to feel. We try to keep the tour of the Inn short so that guests can get into vacation mode asap. Because we have a tavern on premises, guests can enjoy wine, beer or mixed drinks anywhere, including our gardens. This also means that we are subject to Vermont liquor law, and we do have to let guests know this. We don't have any house rules, this is the state's law. I am sorry that this felt curt to you, it was not intended that way at all. We have also just recently started a guest wine reception, so that each day we offer a glass of wine to all of our guests, our treat. We hope that you'll come back and give us another try.

What a pleasure to stay in this inn again this year! The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. The three course breakfast is always wonderful - it includes fresh fruit, fresh home made pastries and an excellent main course - which is creatively presented. Evelyn and David are so kind to us and welcoming. We appreciate this inn and it's gracious hosts. We travel on a regular basis and this is our favorite place to stay.

We've stayed in several different B&Bs in the town of Woodstock over the years before the good fortune of discovering the Village Inn - now our absolute favorite place, where we stay about twice a year. The inn is wonderful in every way. The innkeepers, Evelyn and David, couldn't be nicer and more helpful and professional. The breakfasts are so delicious - all home cooked with great creativity and care, and using local ingredients. The rooms (and we have stayed in several of them now) are all comfortable, tasteful and feel luxurious. In the winter, they are warm and cosy - in the summer, they are nice and cool with central air. Tanya, who serves breakfast, is also lovely. It's great to be able to park the car when you arrive and then just walk to town (only about 5 mins). Lots of good restaurants, interesting stores and art galleries and the town green, all within walking distance. We won't stay anywhere else in Woodstock. This has become like a second home for us and we thank Evelyn and David for always making us feel welcome and cared for.

We were only able to stay one night, but wish we could have stayed longer, as our hosts were so gracious, the breakfast was scrumptious and our room was so very comfortable. My husband grew up with Daschunds, so our hosts allowed their dogs to come out for a visit. The patio and perennial borders were just lovely and I wanted to linger by the water garden. We had a great time, Thank You!
