Heading south from a wonderful weekend in Burlington VT we decided to stop for a late dinner at the Red Rooster at the Woodstock Inn. We were greeted with a warm welcoming reception even though we were very casually dressed. Our waiter was happy to guide us through the menu and make wonderful suggestions. We started with a bottle of Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay, 2010 and a cheese plate from various locations throughout Vermont along with fresh fruit and nuts. Fabulous!!! For dinner the Grilled Filet Mignon,Tomato Braised Kale, and Garlic Smashed Potatoes were perfectly prepared and out of this world! The Jumbo Prawns & Sea Scallops Herb Roasted Garlic Risotto, Grilled Asparagus, and Red Pepper Coulis was terrific. We both thoroughly enjoyed and savored our meals! And it did not end there... the Tahitian Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée and the Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp were also wonderful. This was truly one of the best meals ever.......

“Good food but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

I like the waiter. waitress and entrees. I was not happy that we waited over 30 minutes for our entrees after we received our appetizers. The appetizers and entrees were very good. How does a restaurant of this calibre overcook a side of broccoli? The place I missing a vibe. Ambiance is lacking.

“Good food, service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

We've been eating at the Woodstock Inn for years and lived through all the iterations for dining. The Red Rooster is an attempt to combine the elegant old dining room and the coffee shop into an all-purpose restaurant. The result is kind of an odd decor initially intended to be kind of Zenny New York but not well-received and now it's kind of flatly modern. But the food is quite good, the service excellent and the wine list is fine. It is probably the premier "fine dining" in Woodstock and overall a nice experience.

“Have had better”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

Not exactly what I expected from the hype that I've heard about the place. Although our waiter was friendly and very accommodating, the rest of the staff obviously had too much time on their hands with nothing to do as several congregated at the bar and just stood there for most of the time that we were there. The nasty looks that they gave patrons while walking by was also very uncalled for. Not impressed at all.
