We stayed at the Woodstock for a Friday and Saturday night. Check in was a breeze, the room was very nice with an oversized bed and very nice kohler bathroom. We had a nice drink at the bar and enjoyed room service for dinner which the hotel offers little snack treats we had the bucket of wings and Long Trail Ale. The wings were the best I've had and the local Ale was very tasty. We tried the Spa which is located about a mile away, it was quite nice and the hotel has shuttle service to the spa. We were actually granted a later check out, but you'd think we had ask for a free night stay. The hotel staff, although curteous and pleasant were not the most personable. Overall, Woodstock was a quaint cute town and we found the hotel to be very nice and accomadating. We look forward to going there again.

We were very disappointed with our recent stay at the Woodstock Inn. We felt the room was ridiculously overpriced (as was most of everything in the hotel). We stayed 2 nights (Thursday and Friday). We arrived around lunchtime on Thursday and decided to go to the hotel dining area for the buffet. What a joke. At $16.95 per person the buffet consisted of processed cheddar cheese slices, bread slices and deli meats and overcooked, mushy pasta. On top of this ridiculously overpriced buffet we were automatically charged $7.95 (Auto Service Charge - which essentially is the tip for the non-existent waitress). Brutal. The hotel room was small and the bathroom was even smaller. The second night we stayed was the worst. A group function checked in that was primarily families with small children. I was horrified. Just as I put on my jammies and pulled up the chair to the fireplace to begin reading my book the pounding and thudding from the room above us started. This incessant noise went on for 30 minutes before I had to phone the front desk who informed me a family with 3 young children were in the room above us. The front desk said they would take care of the problem. The noise stopped - briefly. We decided to go out for dinner and come back to the room after the kids had gone to bed. Of course at 7:00am the next morning the pounding and thudding started all over again and then kids screaming and yelling could be heard from outside our hotel window (where the putting green is located).

Don't waste your money on this overpriced hotel. The service is lousy and the rooms aren't worth the price. You're paying for the experience of staying in Woodstock, Vermont which really is a quaint little town.

We will not be returning to the Woodstock Inn.

We stayed at this hotel for only one night as part of a trip through New England and Quebec. Our renovated room was the highlight of the hotel. Although it was a little narrow, the dark wood furniture was very attractive, comfortable, and the overall impression of the room was that it was more like a room in a nice home rather than a standard high end hotel room The bathroom was small but the white subway tiles and elegant fixtures more then made up for it. The hallways near this room were also renovated with the exception of the doors into the rooms which are clearly holdovers. It looks like only one wing of the hotel has been renovated.

The rest of the hotel is nice but a little drab and worn. There are at least three rooms for dining, a nice sundry shop, and a library with free morning coffee and a computer available for guests to use. A bathroom I used in a public area of the hotel was sterile and unattractive, and clearly has not been touched in 30 years. The grounds of the hotel are very nice, and the exterior of the hotel is very attractive.

We did not eat a meal in the hotel, choosing Bentley’s for dinner with its great dark Victorian parlor décor, and breakfast at Mountain Creamery. Both are a five minute walk from the hotel.

I had a chance for an afternoon swim in the hotel pool which was a little cool in early September, but it is a good sized pool in a nice setting. The health club, about a mile and a half down the road is very nice with a great looking indoor pool, good workout area plus a lot more to offer.

Overall, the Woodstock Inn is a nice hotel but right now it is a tale of two hotels. If you stay in a renovated room its like staying in a 5 star room located inside a 3 star hotel.

Just had a wonderful four nite stay at the Inn. We make it our annual pilgrimage and have stayed during every season. The room renovations were excellent. Bill the Bell Captain is a fixture and with his personal/professional attention makes a guest feel special, from desk check in was excellent and since we were celebrating a wedding anniversary we had some special items included. They called us from the front desk to make sure our check in and room were satisfactory, a nice touch. The food was very good and we tried each venue in the Inn, from the restaurant, to the tavern (too many children in the early evening hours-this needs tweaking-I love children, have my own, but need a quiet moment with my wife), to the main dining room. Yes hiring employees is a problem in many Vermont towns, they draw from an entire, shire or county area with 4000 folks, many of our small towns and boroughs have many more residents, hence the shortage of help. The inn was clean as usual, and with their planned future improvements the grand old institution will achieve and maintain a top rating. Nice thing about America we can all have our opinion's and express them freely. Nice job Woodstock!

Just got back from a short stay at this once fine property. I had read on other comments that the "Old Grey Mare" ain't what se used to be,but I figured it was sour grapes or opinions of an inexperienced traveler. Well folks the bad news is this property has begin to fade in many areas.
We attempted to check in at 2:15 pm. OK, so the sign says check in begins at 3 pm. We are told the room is not ready, but we the doorman will take our luggage. Fine we take a 45 minute walk and amazingly the room is ready and our luggage had been neatly stored. Hmmm, think the room is reality was ready and they just didn't want to accomodate us? My thoughts exactly.
We entered the room and noticed it had a small refrigerator and coffee maker. Nice touches, but the refrigerator was brokren and the coffee maker could only be operated by plugging it into the wall.
We had made dinner reservations at the Inn itself. The menu seemed interesting but the room was suspiciously empty. No wonder, a good meny poorly executed does not make for a pleasurable dining experience.
We turned down the bed only to find some of the most tired pilled linen you could ever imagine. Even a low cost chain is superior.
Next time youy are in Woodstock, I suggest considering one of the many cute B&B's or small hotels in the area.

We stayed at the Woodstock Inn and Resort last weekend for a wedding that was taking place Saturday night at the resort. We arrived on Friday night, late, and check-in was very easy. The rooms are quaint, with a four poster bed, a comfy duvet, and big comfy pillows. My husband was happy to find a big, flat screen LG tv. There was a huge closet, a really nice bathroom, and these cupboard like doors that were the window shades. Our room was up on the 3rd floor and overlooked the pool.
On Saturday morning, we had breakfast at an ice-cream palour in town (I cant remember the name, but it was very good and cheap) and then walked around Woodstock before it began to really rain. My husband and I, and another couple went over to the fitness center which was a mile and a half away. There I worked out in the well equipped fitness room, DH sat on the comfy couches and read the paper. Then we had a swim, whirlpool and sauna (all inside). Our friends had reserved an indoor tennis court and played for an hour. I was sad we didnt get to use the outdoor pool, which was on the hotel's property, but it was raining on and off all day.

Saturday night my friends had their wedding at the Woodstock Inn. This was a great wedding with nice food and service.

On Sunday, we requested a late checkout as I was so tired from the night before but they would not give us one. I think this was the only time I have been denied a late check out.

I really liked this hotel, its easy to walk into town and the fitness center was top-notch.
