Relatively new to hikes in green terrain (I'm from Arizona), this hike in early Spring blew my mind. Great, well-kept trail was very low difficulty/intensity and afforded wonderful views (throughout and at the top) of the surrounding Woodstock town. Quintessential New England! I recommend starting from Mountain Avenue and going over the "mountain," ending up in Billings Park. There are views of lush forest and rushing rivers. A nice, easy 1.5 hours of some of the freshest air in the country! Enjoy!

Took this hike in the middle of April and it was enjoyed by the whole family. Trails are easy to follow and not very strenuous. My nine year old daughter did very well.

Great, varied terrain for cross-country skiing and snow shoeing--we loved the Pogue on a snowy day, then again on a bright sunny day...and the views from the mountain are great. Signs are very good but not always great--though many friendly people to ask for directions.

Went snow-shoeing at Mt Tom after a snowfall of 8 inches, and the trails were accessible, varied, and offered various levels of challenge. The trails around the Pogue are particularly beautiful, and if you stand very still, wildlife emerges, including a nice variety of birds,

This is a very easy mountain to climb for relatively minimal effort, even in winter (we went on 12/11/13). My 64 and 70-year old parents and I hiked from the parking area on Prosper Rd up Prosper Trail, to a short section of North Ridge Loop, past the Pogue (a small lake) to Mount Tom Road and up to the South Peak of Mt. Tom. It had just snowed a bit that morning and the light fluffy snow was fine for walking through with regular hiking boots. Many of the trails are old carriage roads that wind around and up the slope at a very easy grade. The scenery was breathtaking and you can easily spend several hours here exploring. The view from the south peak was impressive. There are other options for steeper hikes, and the trail signs are well marked with the varying difficulty levels: easy, moderate, etc.
