My fiancé and I had the pleasure of staying three nights at the Farmhouse Inn in mid-July during a summer vacation driving tour through New England. When we travel we prefer to stay in B&Bs and small inns, and we stayed at several excellent, highly rated places on this trip, but the Farmhouse Inn was by far our favorite. Practically from the moment we arrived, the genuine warmth and beauty of the Farmhouse Inn captivated us. This is a real farmhouse setting in the scenic Ottauquechee river valley just west of Woodstock, complete with hayfields, garden, sugar maples, chickens, horse, apiary, a big, fuzzy, sweet old dog, and an enormous historic red barn built into the side of a hill (you must tour inside, it is amazing). It is all immaculately kept, inside and out, yet is as comfy and inviting as can be, whether relaxing in one of the cozy parlors or in an Adirondack chair under a tree, enjoying the shade and looking out over their fields and garden. When you want to get up and about, there are the farm grounds and the trails above to explore and the river to dip your toes in just across the road. Our room on the top floor of the Farmhouse Inn was lovely: tastefully and appropriately decorated, comfortable bed, big bath, and great views down the valley. Morning breakfasts were ample and delicious, made with fresh ingredients from the farm and local sources. Tory accommodated my fiancé’s and other guests’ unique dietary requests perfectly, and her special touches made us look forward to each morning’s offerings. As others have noted, at the Farmhouse Inn you feel like you are staying as an old friend rather than as just a passing customer. Barry and Tory are happy to share their knowledge of the area, with great pointers to local eateries and activities (this is a perfect base for exploring central Vermont and the nearby town of Woodstock), as well as their experiences living through the seasons on a small Vermont farm. A highlight of our stay was being invited to join Tory & Barry, along with a couple of other guests and the next-farm-over neighbors, for refreshments to celebrate their completion of the first hay cutting/baling of the season. We kicked back up in their smaller “social” barn, its broad doors wide open to hillsides lit by the setting sun (a perfect location for a wedding), and enjoyed friendly, casual conversation along with the view, one of those special moments when all seems quite right with the world. For a couple like us, coming from the hectic urban/suburban world and seeking through travel a place and space different, the Farmhouse Inn was quite literally a breath of fresh air. It provided exactly what we were seeking, a place with soul-rejuvenating comfort and beauty. We can’t wait to go back.

Room Tip: Top floor is a perfect suite setup for families, with a couple of bedrooms, one of which has a very large bathroom.

I just spent a week with Tory and Barry at the Farmhouse Inn at Robinson Farm. They are such welcoming, laid-back, friendly people, and they made me feel like family, and were very helpful with advice on local activities, restaurants, and shopping. Besides the hospitality, I appreciated the (1) very comfortable bed; (2) very generous, homemade breakfasts; (3) espresso drinks on request; (4) free WiFi; (5) A/C in my room (it was very warm last week); (6) and the peaceful, idyllic setting in West Woodstock. They even welcome a Bluegrass Jam group in the white barn every other Tuesday evening in summer - what a great surprise! This is definitely the best place to stay in the Woodstock area.

We've been traveling to this area regularly over the past four years while our daughter was attending a nearby college. When she graduated in June, our usual hotel was booked, and based on others' reviews, we decided to stay at the Farmhouse Inn at Robinson Farm. The house and our rooms were comfortable, spotless, roomy and completely charming. Our hosts, Tory and Barry and their daughter Hannah, were interesting, gracious, and the sort of people you'd want to have for neighbors. Being in their home made us relax. Breakfasts were wonderful, featuring local meats and produce and eggs from the chickens right outside. Our six year old got the full barn tour and was free to roam on his own, which was exactly what he needed after too many banquets and a five-hour graduation ceremony. Once all of the graduation hoopla ended, we were sorry we couldn't hang around to enjoy the Farmhouse Inn at Robinson Farm a little longer. Thanks, Tory and Barry.

My husband and I stayed here on a little getaway to the quaint area of Woodstock, Vermont and had a WONDERFUL time. Upon arrival, we were greeted with fresh cookies and given our lovely room with a view on the third floor. The innkeepers were like old friends and the most hospitable you could find. The first night we were there, they invited us to their private "jam session" with friends after dark in the old (remodeled) barn. They served delicious homemade dandelion wine and other spirits, plus an array of simple appetizers. We felt at home as we listened to local musicians sing and play.

The innkeepers were super friendly and gave us several suggestions to fill up our day, including, dining at the Skunk Hollow Tavern and hiking Mt Tom. Breakfast was delicious (and local) and we received generous portions and were asked if we wanted seconds. The inn was extremely clean and there was lots of information on fun things to do in the area. We absolutely loved our visit and would recommend this inn to anyone visiting the area!

Room Tip: We loved our Sunrise Room with large bathroom!

If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful and restful setting, you should consider the Farmhouse.

My wife and our two young daughters (9 and 4) had but one day/evening to stay there on our way through VT to CT. From the moment we pulled up in our car Tory made us feel like we were old family friends and that her house was our house. After we unpacked and relaxed a bit, she introduced our girls to her young daughter Hannah. Hannah graciously took our girls off to see her horse (our girls' greatest dream "pet"), so they were delighted. Tory then gave my wife and I a tour of the large, architecturally significant Robinson Family barn which is unique because, among other things, it is built into a hillside on the property. This may not sound like a particularly interesting way to pass the time but it was. Trust me. (I had no idea every square foot, window, door and level in a barn had a very specialized purpose when designed and built.) Tory was also very knowledgable about the area's rich history and shared the same with us. Then there was Tory's primer on how to make and collect maple syrup and honey from the maple trees and hives on the property -- both of which she does. Being from CA where such talents are extremely rare if not unheard of, my wife and I could not help but be impressed. The products of those talents (the maple syrup and honey) were happily enjoyed at breakfast the next morning on and with hot, home made waffles, eggs from the free-range chickens kept on the property, home made lemon curd, sausage links with plenty of hot tea and coffee. Everything, including generous seconds (and thirds I'm ashamed to say), was absolutely delicious.

Our only regret is that our stay was so short.

Just five minutes removed from all the charms of downtown Woodstock, the Farmhouse was a very relaxing stop, short as it was, for us. Our beds were big, clean, soft and extremely comfortable and we had a great shower (in a claw foot bath) overlooking the vegetable garden below. All of our impressions of the Farmhouse, in particular those of Tory who was so kind to us, were extremely positive. We enjoyed ourselves and, we think, others would too.
