We have just left this hotel in utter disgust, a week was booked for a special birthday treat.
We arrived and as usual we checked our bed linen, it's our philosophy to do so in any hotel regardless of star rating. The mattress cover was stained and filthy, we contacted management and they changed our room, but alas dirty linens again, so on our first night there exhausted from travelling, we went to an upgrade to a suite. The suite was very nice, as is the hotel to look at, well on the surface that is! We thought all would be well but no, the smell from the toilet hurt our eyes and throat. We reported this to the front desk, a young man was sent with a bottle of blue liquid in his hand, which he put down the loo and told us it would be ok. In the middle of the night, maybe as we'd flushed a few times, the smell woke us up with a vengeance! Methane wasn't the word! So a very disturbed nights sleep, and in the morning reported this to the front desk. We were told the manager was away for 1 week and he can do nothing! We were going out for the day, and returned to nothing done about the smell!! We then called to report this and were given a bottle of chemical to pour down the loo ourselves! One of us suffers from respiratory problems, which sparked off breathing problems. We approached the front desk yet again this morning, and eventually had a meeting with someone from management. He assured us a change of room would solve everything with clean linens he would personally check and no smells. Told that some bedrooms do suffer from these smells from time to time. We reluctantly changed rooms, no.4 change in 3 days! We had a 2 bedroom suite, so thought we'd have extra pillows, and upon checking them, lo and behold the sweaty yellow stains on all the pillows. We asked for them to be changed. House keeping brought us..yes you guessed filthy pillows! My wife took 2 pillows to the front desk to show the manager himself, his reply was " well they've got clean covers" no sign of sorry or remorse. We immediately checked out, no way would we recommend this top show hotel. We actually have found a clinically clean alternative place to stay. I will give this new clean place a 5 star and a highly recommended vote. So steer clear of this hotel. Benahavis itself is beautiful with nice people, a shame about this thorn in the Rose bush!!! Esta hotel es muy sucio, no recomendiente. Lo siento mi espanol es poquito. Gracias.

We stayed for 2 nights (13/14 Feb) costing 199 euros for 3 of us sharing a very sustantial sized bedroom. No complaints on the breakfast but we did feel that some of the communal areas and bedrooms needing upgrading as they were looking rather tired. The large reception area is not particularly inspiring and more could be done to make this space more attractive.

Do agree with previous comments regarding the 6 euro charge for use of the internet. By making this free could actually work to the hotel's benefit as guests may be more inclined to have a drink in the lovely courtyard.

Our one main issue was regarding other guests (in room 116 I think) who argued, slammed doors and dragged furniture for a total of 4 hours (until 3 in the morning). Shame on you!! The hotel were aware of this and at one point a member of staff did visit the room but to no avail. Unfortunately, this experience means we won't be returning to the hotel in the very near future.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are very large and ideal to accommodate a further 2 beds comfortably for children...

This is a lovely hotel. Massive rooms, friendly staff and in a beautiful location. The only thing that lets it down is they want to charge you 6 Euro PER DAY for use of the internet. Come on this is a 4* hotel, move with the times and provide free wifi to guests - even if only in the communal rooms.

Have just returned from this hotel, location is fantastic and Benhavis is beautiful with plenty of tapas bars and wonderful restaurants.
I made a complaint about the Spa and food to the hotel reception and I was promised that one of the managers would call me to discuss. No one has phoned so I only feel it right I let people know my experience. Avoid the food, the Breakfast was awful and tasteless the coffee was just milk and water and the orange juice was like powder juice. The breakfast was cold and greasy with tined mushrooms and eggs swimming in Grease. The evening meal was terrible with very little choice and beef that just did not taste like beef.
The hotel is very shabby with stained carpets, holes in ceilings, and the rooms were very boring.
The Spa is not worth going, don't waste your time. The Steam room was out of action, no Jacuzzi jets working, the Spa was cold and needed heating, with a nasty damp smell to it.
This hotel really does need a good refurb, I know it's out of season but if they promote the Spa it should be heated and clean which it was not.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, However Benhavis is lovely

stayed here for 5 nights end of january 2013. hotel very quiet due to lack of clients BUT we were so well looked after by all the staff. Food was very good both for breakfast (buffet style) and in the main restaurant. all of the hotel facilities were available and the grounds and the pool area were immaculate. we had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel or indeed would definitely like to return

We stayed there December 28-29, and enjoyed it. Nothing much was happening at the hotel or in the village - extremely quiet. Restaurant OK for dinner and breakfast; prices reasonable.
The spa procedures are little weird, but I suppose it makes sense. There are 50-minute slots, and you need to book ahead. This is for use of the common facilities - steam rooms, saunas, jacyzzis etcetera. We never tried any treatments, so uncertain how these are affected by the weird access rules.
In the morning, our car was covered with a thin layer of ice. An extra coffee at breakfast, and it would have been gone. As it was, we had to put a customer loyalty card to a use for which it was never intended. Kept us loyal, though.

Most enjoyable wedding reception from start to finish. Tapas and guitar playing to welcome us from Wedding ceremony. Relaxing by pool watching sunset before adjourning indoors to sumptuous meal followed by great entertainment. Irish wedding in October at Gran Hotel recommended!
