“Mixed bag!”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

Stayed for a night whilst on a tour of the region - this was the worst food of the hotels we used. I would say the location is OK and the surrounding area is very pretty. I was disappointed by the 'in the lakes' tag, as its actually a man made reservoir and power station! Its fairly attractive as they go, but certainly not of the natural lakes standard.

The rooms are nice enough, but the worst point is the food. They got the order worng on several acounts, the food was cold and we all agreed pretty poor quality. Breakfast was very limited and didnt open til 9am - too late in my view.

For me its an adequate stop over hotel nothing more.

We went to El Chorro a couple of weeks ago. It was a really beautiful place. We stopped by for a dinner at La Garganta. Its might be the worst dinner we have had. We ordered pasta with minced meet. O boy, minced bones and fat. Really greasy!! Super bad!! It was impossible to eat it. Before we ordered the food, we asked the staff if we could get access to the hotels Internet when eating. "NO, the Internet is for hotel guests only". Would not recommend anyone to eat at La Garganta. The hotel area looks nice but the staff is not kind. We promised us self to write this review when we get back to Sweden.

Spent an exhausting day at the lakes and needed a nice relaxing place to spend the night. The Garganta delivered completely, a lovely location in the tiny hamlet of El Churro. Our two bedroomed apartment was excellent, spacious and comfortable it was like a huge barn with half height walls partitioning the rooms. The overall feeling was one of luxury and space. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent kid goat was unusual and delicious the wine list featured wines from surrounding villages, the rose we had was superb. Views from restaurant and pool area are amazing and the pool was wonderful. A great hotel can't wait to return.

I know this hotel was closed for some time and has been completely refurbished. The large comfortable bedrooms have been beautifully modernised and the furnishings and colourings kept in tune with the old mill. The bathroom was also huge. Everywhere was spotlessly clean.
The hotel has a lovely pool, great for swimming lengths with plenty of sunloungers for the guests.
We ate dinner in the restaurant which was good although only a couple of other guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor to obtain a good view of the reservior.

This is our third trip to el Chorro and the second time we've stayed here. The rooms are heated (important in winter) and very comfortable. Most rooms have 2floors with a couch and sitting area downstairs and the bed & bath upstairs accessed by a narrow spiral staircase. Views of the reservoir and steep limestone walls cant be beat! Wifi, tv and good service are provided. The restaurant has much improved since 2005. Terrific leg of goat and rabbit and a nice selection of riojas. Tortilla de potata para desayuna es excellente.

On a family Sunday trip out we spotted this restaurant with fantastic views. A family of 5 with 2 grandparents & our 2 dogs we stopped for lunch.
We hoped to sit on the terrace we saw from the road in the warm November sunshine, as it was full we were offered the side terrace, it turned out to be fully shaded with a gale whipping through! That was the least of our worries
We ordered 3 starters to share which were edible but hugely overpriced. Our mains, 3 albondigas, of which 2 were cold & sent back to be warmed, after 15 minutes they were returned 1 warmish & 1 cold, the third arrived warm but with a dead fly in it. The asparagus omelette looked horrible was declared the worse meal ever served, (this coming from a gentleman in his 70's is going some). My main of San Jacob was disgusting. All meat mains were just served with a few cold fries & nothing else. I have read other reviews that suggest the restaurant owners are English, if we had known this we would have addressed our issues to them. This is the worst excuse of a restaurant I have ever eaten in. It clearly survives on one off passing trade, it is daylight robbery & the owners should be ashamed of themselves.
