After being let down by another company, Andy & Jen completed a last minute booking with ease. The instructions were faultless and we were kindly collected from the station in Alora. We spent the majority of our stay being overwhelmed by how beautiful the place was. I doubt I'll ever have such an impressive view from a toilet on the side of a mountain again!! Andy & Jen make brilliant hosts, and the cooking was delish. If you're looking for a hidden away location with the option to be independent and wander into town, this is for you.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Emperor tent, we were the furthest away from the house and didn't see anyone el...

If you want a perfect rural idyll, that is excellent value for money and run by the most amiable hosts you'll ever meet - then look no further because you've found it!
Let me start by saying that I have never bothered to write a review before but our stay, as a family of three, was simply too wonderful to keep to ourselves.
Our tent was was huge, exceptionally clean and wonderfully cool in the late evening. The beds were very comfortable and the fact that our tent came equipped with bedside tables and an armchair added a touch of extra glam. There is literally no light pollution so we all loved star gazing at night and enjoying the quiet that comes with being in a rural environment.
My four year old son is quite shy at times but he got on really well with Andy and Jen, as they were so friendly, and there was so much for him to do, despite being the only child there at the time. He loved feeding and playing with the chickens, the micro-pigs, the dogs, the cat, the love birds and holding the praying mantis. In fact he's currently reeling off a list of what he loved and quite frankly, it's never ending!
Andy and Jen have a plunge pool- essential for kids in the Summer heat- but there's also a large swimming pool in Alora just a five minute drive away. The town itself has a Moorish castle, a bodega, award-winning olives, fabulous places to eat and friendly locals and best of all, it is traditional Spain.
My husband and I loved the fact that we felt safe letting our son run around the spacious grounds, climbing rocks and exploring nature whilst we indulged in some adult conversation with the owners and other guests.
The evening home-cooked meals were wonderful and excellent value for money and everyone enjoyed having a banter with each other around the communal table. The breakfasts were just as good and I am already craving some of Jen's wonderful home-made kumquat jam and our son loved the fact that he collected his boiled egg from the chickens the night before.
We visited the world famous El Chorro walking and climbing area- a mere 20 min drive away but the real reason for us was to indulge in swimming in the warmest, most picturesque turquoise lakes that you'll ever see in Europe!
Malaga is a cheap 40 minute train ride away where our son discovered the "funny faces" at the Picasso Museum, stood in a Roman Amphitheatre and climbed a Moorish castle before returning to the tranquil countryside for his evening meal.
On a serious note, our son fell ill - he'd been under the weather for a few weeks, nothing to do with staying at Andy and Jen's but I got really worried and this is where staying at Hidden Valley really became extra special. Jen speaks fluent Spanish and dropped everything to accompany us to the excellent local doctors where she proceeded to wait with us, translate for us and reassure me -despite having lots of jobs to do herself. In the end, it was nothing serious but having that extra level of reassurance was truly wonderful.
We extended our stay by an extra two nights, it just was that good, and my only worry with writing this review is that it will mean that Hidden Valley becomes solidly booked and hard for us to make a re-booking because there's no way that we won't be returning!!

After a 50 minute train journey from Malaga airport to Alora, Jen picked us up from the train station to take us to Hidden Valley. The campsite is in the hills above Alora, overlooking a beautiful valley.

The layout was ideal - we spent most of our time at the site in the communal seating and dining area, which was a really sociable location. If we wanted a more private area, there were endless seats, hammocks and benches elsewhere around the site.

Jen and Andy were great hosts - always eager to help or give advice about day trips and activities. They generously lent us their bikes for a few days - we cycled to a lake (25km north from Hidden Valley) and enjoyed it so much that we went back later in the week.

The food was excellent and the animals were brilliant (domestic and wild)!

Points to consider:
It was seriously hot when we went (mid July) - above 37'C on several days, so we had to do most activities in the morning or late evening. We'll definitely go back in Spring or Autumn.

The train links to Malaga are good (hourly, I think) but the trains away from the coast are pretty limited - there's one in the morning (about half 10) that returns to Alora for about half 6 in the evening. This meant that we couldn't realistically visit Seville, Jerez or Cordoba in one day - you'd probably need a car to set off early and head back later in the day.

Overall, excellent holiday and we can't wait to go back!

We love to camp in the UK, but we weren't expecting this place to be so good. We had a week up on the mountains and came here for two nights 'cos it was not far from the airport. What a great decision! We loved it. Our tent was, like the other four, totally private. Fab views of the countryside and Andy & Jen were perfect hosts. Very, very friendly, but not in yer face. Nothing was too much trouble. Deffo want to come back. They have a variety of pets, including two wonderful dogs, Boomer & Rocky, some hens, a cat & two adorable micro pigs, Babs & Winston.
Showering in the open air was an enlightening experience, (don't worry, you can't be seen) but you don't have to ... there's showers in the main building.
I'm not a great mixer, but we had a brilliant time with like-minded people. This place is suitable for couples, families, old buggers (like me) in fact everybody. Don't think about it... Just do it!
The tents are totally luxurious, proper double beds, carpets, chairs, cabinets...it's not really camping, it's GLAMPING!!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights for our 10 year wedding anniversary (after deliberating many places, countries, activities) and we both agreed we couldn't have chosen anywhere more perfect.
Jen and Andy's hospitality was second to none and we felt like we had known them forever.
The food was plentiful and great - Andy's Malay curry was the best ever - and there was always a readily available supply of chilled drinks, wine etc at little more than the supermarket prices :))))
The area was amazing, it's hard to believe you are only 35 minutes from Malaga airport, and the lakes at El Chorro are one of the most breathtaking places we have ever visited.
The site is beautiful with stunning views across the valley and each of the four yurts have masses of space and privacy whilst still being close to the main house. The array of pets (all rescued) enhanced our time there greatly but should you not be an animal person they certainly wouldn't bother you.
I can't speak highly enough if this gem if a place and we can't wait to visit again soon with our children and friends :)

After being picked up by Andy & Jen from Malaga airport, which in it's self was a surprise that the owners would do such a thing. My 5 day stay was out of this world. Views over looking Alora town were spectacular and the mountains in the back drop made this holiday a dream for me being a walker and a rock climber.
I was always given my own space and never pestered by Andy & Jen once on site. They asked me if I wanted to dine with them or be left alone to relax and do what I set out to do, which was walk and climb!!
The very friendly dogs, chickens, pigs and love bird was also pleasing to see.
I would definitely re-book but this time for 10 days.
