“Amazing!”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

I had a fun and relaxing two weeks stay at Casa Bliss, Rose Cottage. The apartment I stayed in was clean, had everything I needed and the patio area was great for soaking up the sun and having barbecues.

The views from the apartment were breathtaking and the pool was big enough to have an enjoyable swim. This is definitely a place I would recommend to friends and I myself can’t wait to go back.

Thanks Jaye for enjoyable stay!

This was our second visit to Casa Bliss. My review from last year (18th September) is still on here and I can only say that the place up is even better this year. There has been more rainfall so the grounds are so lush there are even grapes hanging from the vines above the patio. The owner has installed green lights throughout the grounds which coupled with the swimming pool lights create a beautiful atmosphere at night. We stayed in the Daffodil Cottage last year and had the pleasure of the Bluebell Cottage this year - the photos hardly do it justice; it's stunning.

If you decide to hire a car (a good idea) we used malagacar.com again this year. They are great and very cheap compared to the international companies and do not subscribe to that full tank return empty scam.

Our second time now - once in Daffodil Cottage and once in Rose and returning this September - both Cottages are lovely in their own way. Furnishings are a delightful mixture of traditional chosen pieces. Very warmly welcomed by the owner. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed. It feels like you are staying with an old friend. Its all very informal. Daffodil is bright and sunny with a separate bedroom, kitchen lounge area and a terrace to the rear which overlooks the mountains + your own BBQ, Rose is a huge room, which easily incorporates dining table and chairs. there is a bedroom and lounge area, and kitchen. Large separate bathroom. Its patio gives easy access to the pool. there's a large table, umbrella and BBQ. The finca, pool and grounds are in a delightful setting, palms trees and views to the mountains and you can hear the goat bells tinkling as you swim. Unfortunately there was a lightening strike on a pylon, so no electricity for a day but hardly the owners fault. She in fact made great efforts to have this repaired as soon as possible. On this occasion the weather wasnt kind to us so we did some sightseeing to Rhonda - great - and the surrounding area. Even without perfect weather still thought it BLISS so thats why we are returning in September and expect to time and time again.

Disappointing. I was lured by the photos and positive reviews. We stayed in Bluebell Cottage and I can only assume from the positive reviews that the other 2 cottages are of a higher standard.
Firstly it is not, as advertised, a one bedroom with en-suite. It is a studio with a small fairly ill-equiped kitchenette (eg 3 mugs, 2 knives, forks and spoons) and a bathroom with a concertina type door which didn't shut properly so that the aroma from the drains constantly permeated the room. The furnishings are old style Spanish which would be fine had it not been pretty tacky old style Spanish. Eating indoors meant sitting in the 2 armchairs, the only available seating.
Among the amenities listed is a washing machine. This is, in fact, sited in the owners part of the villa so in order to use it we had to walk past them eating in their dining room to go in to their kitchen. We asked for the ironing board which was another listed amenity. The one which was brought to us was a vintage wooden one with a large hole in it. Yet another amenity which was listed - DVD player- had to be requested.
The owner was perfectly pleasant and friendly and had left some provisions including wine, bread and cheese which was a kindly thought but really did not make up for the fixtures and furnishings.
We had pretty awful weather which is clearly not the fault of the owner but had we realised that the weather wasn't really going to improve we should have cut our losses and left to stay elsewhere. If we had been spending more time outside in the sun perhaps we would not have been so conscious of the shabby surroundings inside. There was plenty furniture on the patio area although, it too, has certainly seen better days. We had a lightning storm which left the premises without electricity for 24 hours. The owners gave us some candles and a torch but perhaps could have made more of a gesture (eg some refund of what we had paid to put towards a meal and drinks in an establishment with heating and light!)
The area around the pool was nice. I spent some time there and could certainly imagine relaxing there a lot more in hotter weather. However my husband did clear out some of the debris from the bottom of the pool and said he felt the bottom of it was somewhat scummy.
We were checking out on the Saturday morning and when we went to speak to the owner there was no-one there and we simply had to leave the 'cottage' open.
We have stayed in numerous self-catering places and this is the first time I have felt the need to write such a review.
It is not as advertised. It is not a one bedroom cottage and I feel is it dishonest to describe it as such. There are not the amenities listed. If you decide to go do not stay in Bluebell. When I was making the booking this was the only one available. I was assured they were all of the same standard, just with different layouts. I find this hard to believe. The owners part has clearly been decorated and furnished to a high standard. It is just a pity that the same cannot be said for Bluebell.
We did make the most of our week and explored the surrounding area including trips to Granada and Ronda which were lovely. Alora itself is nice and we enjoyed several meals there. It was just a pity that Bluebell wasn't a welcoming place to return to.

We stayed at Casa Bliss for the first time over the August bank holiday in 2010 and were completely blown away by the superb quality of the cottages, the views over Alora and the friendly and helpful manner of the owner.
We have recently been back to Casa Bliss in November 2011 and whilst the weather wasn't what we had during our first stay, we did expect this, and the experience was still as relaxing and stress free as our first.
Maintenance to the cottages since our last visit had been completed to a very high standard. This time we stayed in Daffodil Cottage, it was incredibly peaceful and comfortable and we were able to catch up on much needed sleep and unwind from the moment we arrived.
My girlfriend and I simply can't get enough of Casa Bliss and Alora - the old town centre, the nature and the surroundings are just beautiful.
All of the sights and resorts that Southern Spain has to offer are easily accessible from Casa Bliss. For those who love breathtaking scenery and stunning views, take a trip to Rhonda - you won't be disappointed!
But going in November opposed to August, you tend not to sunbath as much so we were determined to get out and about and see the parts of Alora you wouldn't think existed, so the owner told us about a near by quad biking company, this was well worth the visit. You get a tour guide and they take you into the heart of the mountains and crystal blue lakes, such good fun, and you get incredible views of Andalucía.
Alternatively if you prefer something that doesn't involve quad bikes, we spent a day fishing at Ardales Lake, it was a lovely dry day, very chilled and relaxing.
And if you want to do something more invigorating we went on lovely long walks up into the hills situated around Casa Bliss where you'll get amazing views over Alora.
It's truly beautiful here, we had an amazing week, and we felt so well rested.
Thank you for having us back again, we look forward to returning to Casa Bliss in 2012.

The choice of Casa Bliss helped by reviews written by previous guests and great photos of the property proved to be correct, in fact this holiday home provided an ideal peaceful and relaxing place to stay for our visit to the Malaga area of Spain. The property is only about 30 mins drive from Malaga and easy to find. Even end of November the weather was sunny every day and this was a major reason for our mini break late in the year. We chose Alora as a base to visit Granada, Malaga, The Alhambra and Ronda and the property is set amongst the beautiful hills and scenery that is typical of this area when you travel inland and just a short drive from the coast. I have never seen so many oranges, olives and lemons.
Susan has restored this beautiful finca providing 3 separate individual apartments/cottages, together with stunning grounds which include olive trees, orange trees and palm trees. Each apartment has it's own patio all with fantastic outlooks across the hills and there is a vine plant on 2 patios and barbecue if needed, not to mention the lovely swimming pool for a refreshing dip after some sight seeing. Our apartment had cooking facilities, comfy settee and double bed also a dining table and chairs. There is satellite TV so could watch some English programmes whilst relaxing with a bottle of lovely Spanish inexpensive wine and olives from the area. On arrival we were provided with a bottle of red wine and bread, cheese, salami, milk, water etc.. which is such a nice touch after travelling a few hours, very thoughtful and this can be seen throughout the decoration of the apartment and the whole property. WiFi is free access if you need to contact home. The en-suite is all tiled and very modern and clean. There is air conditioning if needed in the hot summer months and a small heater if you need to take away any chill in the later months.
Alora town comprises of beautiful old white houses built on the side of a steep hill and has a sleepy air about it also very very friendly and honest people. We had a fantastic tapas sat outside a typical Spanish bar in the main square watching people go by.
We found in Casa Bliss a relaxing, easy and comfortable place to stay and will definitely be returning next year to explore the area further and sample more lovely gastronomic delights.Thank you soo much to the ladies looking after Casa Bliss and for being so warm and hospitable and giving you this real Spanish holiday feeling with a touch of English Housepride. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! A big hug from D & M, London

I was looking to book a relaxing holiday, our first in 4 years of runnning a restaurant in Spain! I chose Casa Bliss after reading reviews, checking various websites & comparing prices. It seemed to be exactly what we were looking for, relaxation, nice surroundings & central to visit some of the major cities of Spain. How wrong could I be? All I can say is this was probably lovely, ONCE. It seemed uncared for, neglected & shabby. After negotiating our way in our car up a track that was dissintigrating in places & would have been totally dangerous in the dark, we pulled up through the almost fully open gate to see a wheelbarrow filled with rotting garden waste. Open doors to two "cottages" were the only thing that greeted us, oh and thousands of flies, totally unexpected in November. No sign of the pleasant owner that had been described on the websites. The patio furniture had faded cushions piled on them, when pulled apart they revealed snails & spiders. We didn't stay. We called the owner to explain why we wouldn't be using the accomodation, she didn't seem surprised! I'd like to say it totally ruined our holiday, but it didn't, we went on to have a fabulous time exploring Sevilla for 3 days, not the week long holiday we'd hoped for, but wonderful nevertheless.

Room Tip: Use a well known hotel chain!
