We have visited Los Caballos twice recently with our motorcycle club and on both occasions thoroughly enjoyed it.

The service is good, there are plenty of tables outside and inside. The menu is extensive and mainly based around their charcoal barbeque. My partner and I each ordered a half chicken which appears to be priced at 13.00 Euros per person but they only just us 7 Euros each. The barbeque with wood and it makes all the difference as the chicken was hot and moist - delicious. The other 16 of our party also enjoyed their meals and, for a change in Spain, all the orders came at the same time!

All in all a very good stop and we will be back.

We went on a Sunday evening, and it was not busy. Los Caballos is a large establishment on the outskirts of Alora. They specialise in grills - pork, goat and chicken etc. We sat on a large covered terrace on a mild evening.
We started by sharing a large dish of stewed lima and small broad beans, and then a plate of fried aubergine. Our main dishes were a large piece of grilled pork and a 'Mountain Grill'. This included chicken, country sausage, egg and green peppers. Both were hefty dishes, which defeated us in trying to finish them. The local red wine from the Malaga region was good {14 euros}. With two coffees and one brandy we paid 56 euros. Not a subtle place but good if very hungry!

This is a lovely relaxed and informal Spanish restaurant serving lovely local Spanish food. It's basic but well executed with a charming welcoming owner and swift efficient service. We had aubergines fried with honey, a walnut and goats cheese salad, a leg of goat and a spit roasted chicken. All were delicious. I've been twice already this holiday. The menu is in Spanish and English which helps if you don't speak the language but you shouldn't be put off if you don't as the staff are really patient! Oh you can get the chickens to take away if you'd prefer to have them at your villa by the pool but we ate in as the atmosphere is great. They have a little play area too. I was put off by the outside view of the restaurant as it looks a bit like it caters to weddings and conferences but once you get off the road you can see it'a lovely. I'm giving five stars because for what it does it's five star.

the place served good food. There was a rainy day in Alora so it was also a bit cold in the restaurant. After a while they lit the fireplace! The service was good and the waiter was observant.

Nine friends had menu del dia today (Monday, 28 January 2013) and it was really very good. We had a choice of four dishes for starters, main course and sweet or coffee, plus a basket of bread. The salads were delicious as was the sopa mariscos (shell fish soup) for starters. Main courses chosen were spit roast chicken with poor mans potatoes (requested rather than chips) and hake with lemon. Only one had a sweet which was the usual, custard, cold rice pudding, creme caramel or fruit, the remainder of us had coffee. A drink is also included and the bill, with extra wine as it was a birthday celebration came to 98 euros, which we though was very good value. We ate in the main restaurant area and the service was excellent.

A really good idea is the menu, which forms part of an information booklet on Alora and the surrounding area. You can take this away with you and it is full of interesting things to see and do. Even though we all live in the area, I think we all spotted something we were unaware of in the booklet.
