“What a Great Place to Stay”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

This area is not overrun with hotels and motels but Ray's Den is the best Mom & Pop that I have stayed in. Cleanest motel that I have ever stayed at. Only 8 rooms but they are furnished nicely and are most comfortable with free parking in front of your room. The rates are excellent for this area and the owner, Linda, is very nice and accommodating. Highly recommended when traveling on 395.

Stayed here last night would definitely recommend it if you are travelling the 395 from Death valley. Linda, the owner very friendly and helpful. Rooms are immaculate with gourmet coffee, fridges, microwave, outdoor seating. And toiletries. The only downside was the Wi-Fi it was quite slow but don't let it turn you off. If you do stay eat in Jenny's cafe across the road.

Cheap, very cheerful, comfortable, very clean and well located, in this quiet backwater of 500 souls. Our second stay, and we'd do it again. Eat at Jenny's café and you can't go wrong.
I'm writing the rest of this because Trip Advisor insist on 0ver 200 characters.

Room Tip: The rooms nearest the office have less road noise, though there's not much anyway.

We've stayed here several times, whenever we go up to the Eastern Sierras and it has definitely become our place to stay while there. We find Independence and Ray's Den an excellent base for visiting place to the south and to the north. As usual the rooms are spotlessly clean, about the cleanest we've ever stayed in. It's very enjoyable to sit on the chairs outside your room or over on the small patio and chat with other guests. Linda is a great host and has a vast knowledge of the area. And to all you fishermen, she has a brand new BBQ to cook that fresh catch of the day, just offer her dinner.

Just got done hiking over 200 miles in the mountains and needed a hotel to wash up and relax in. It is a very clean establishment that felt like home with extremely friendly service and a good price. I would recommend Ray's Den to anyone who is stopping in independence or just passing through.

What a cute and homey little spot along Hwy 395! We booked on short notice and were crossing our fingers that others reviews were accurate. We were pleasantly surprised to find an immaculately clean room that was comfortable with large windows and seating areas on the porch. You just felt right at home the moment you walked in the door! The kids were excited about the Andes mints waiting on the nightstand and I was thrilled to have a clean and comfy place to sleep.

We also discovered a hidden gem at Linda's suggestion - Onion Valley Road which is one of the best kept secrets and most grueling road bike climbs in the nation!
