“Chilling experience”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

This is not something you will easily forget. Visiting any ex-prison place is a moving experience. Visiting a torture place where lots of people suffered and died mostly because of their beliefs and political options is something that will affect you. The world was and in some areas it still is a pretty horrible place. How low and how sadistic some people can become only because of their beliefs. Something we should all meditate at once in a while...

“Almost 5 hours of quality time”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Eventhough the museum is not so big, I did spend almost five hours of quality time inside. There is so much information gathered, as whoever plans on visiting it, should book at least three hours. One of the most interesting facts is the way of presenting things; from major historical themes of those years to indiviual stories that deep down reflects the savage behaviours and courageous resistance acts. These details have the empowerment of presenting more than statistical numbers of that comunist regime.

“Museum Chronicals a Recent Dark Period in Romanian History”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

This museum provides a chronicle to a recent dark period in Eastern European History in general and Romanian history in particular. The general time frame is the end of WWII to Romania's 1989 revolution. Its location in a political prison of the era is fitting.
The stark commemorative wall (resembles the Vietnam wall in Washington DC) listing names of political prisoners who died in this prison is chilling. It is disturbing that the number of names is increasing as researchers continue to scoure the records. We feel it is fitting that a chapel with candles adjoins the wall.
We feel it a 'must visit' for anyone traveling to Maramures.

“Moving, tragic, but worthwhile”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

See why they seem so happy here now...the horrors of the communist regime well-told. First they had the fascists, then the communists, and they only want to get on with life.

“Interesting”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

An interesting view of the history and political development of the Romanian regime. It's in a thoroughly renovated version of the jail and there's a lot to see here.
