“Fawlty towers is a better place!!”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

well what can I say....

first of all the room was full of dust they do not clean under the beds and the must of been a 1cm thick of dust under the bed, on top of the wardrobe n on the tv. the lifts was always breaking down which was proving difficult to get our child down in a pushchair. there is loads of damp every where which is even resulting in the paint peeling of. the person near us in 2623 I felt so sorry for her room was awful and stunk really bad of damp.
the ceiling fans looked like they could of took of the ceiling they looked very loose. we had the fans on continuous whilst we was in the room n it was ok it managed to keep us cool although air con would be better especially having young children.

you have to pay to use the wifi but if you go to certain bars or mc d's you can use wifi for free.

FOOD!!
Absolutely disgusting the food was not need even cooked for example one night we was served chicken legs and when we cut it open it was still PINK!! every night it was the same fish or pork which im allergic to fish and I cannot eat pork due to health reasons so I could not eat much. all the kids got was chicken nuggets & chips no other alternative. there was flys every where they kept all the windows and doors open yet they had air con in the restaurant.
Breakfast was even more disgusting Frankfurt sausages, bacon which was just fat, powered eggs and salad which had been mauled by flies. we ended eating out majority of the time as the food was that horrid. least there's a mc Donald's on the seafront.

Swimming pool
needs a good clean out you cannot even see your feet at the bottom of the pool as the water is that murky. around the pool is dangerous on some of the tiles which resulted in a lot of people slipping (the orange 1's which have 1 singular line now n then around the steps near the pool)
Broken parasols was left out after a storm which could of resulted in an accident luckily it didn't. the holes for the parasols should really be covered when not in use as they are a trip hazard which me n my son tripped over.
the toilets around the pool is absolutely rotten the toilet seat was broken and full of crap all around the toilet which resulted in a lot of people been ill. even with them been reported they still kept the toilets open with the broken rotting seat.

Reception
is very clean and tidy with air con. only bad point is waiting a long time to get your keys back or trying to resolve matters. all we got is we cannot do anything you need to speak to your travel operative.

childrens park
is full of cat poo n falling of stones also I tripped numerous times on the matting near the swings!!

Games Room
needs a big update

Evening entertainment
the kids mini disco was the only best thing about this holiday just a shame it was only for 30mins could of been longer. Bingo 2 euro 1 ticket or 5 euro for 6 tickets it was a good laugh. dint see all the other entertainment other then karaoke which was a good laugh!!

overall this hotel needs a big investment to sort this out

After booking into this hotel we were given a key and told our room was at the other side of the pool ,not even directions on how to get to the pool . A fellow guest saw us with our bags and asked what room we were looking for ,then very kindly showed us to our room as it was close to theirs. The room was clean ,rather dated but nice clean linen on the bed . The public areas were however not very clean at all . Our first morning we were surprised to find chips for breakfast ,the egg was quite clearly powdered ,it was cold and tasted awful, the beans were only just warm, bacon hard and cold and sausages also cold this was one of the better meals . evening meal was even worse with i think instant mash but it resembled wallpaper paste ,unidentifiable meat, and hard cold green beans , we did try several other meals but found it safer to eat out . If anybody complained they were shouted at and told they did not know what they were talking about . Rather like Fawlty Towers

Room Tip: choose another hotel

Dear Guest

First of all let me apologise for the said lack of information of where your room was situated. All our staff are instructed to explain how to get to your room.

Our house keeping department works to provide the same cleanliness throughout the resort on a daily basis.

Continually the catering department provides a varied menu daily for many different cultures which is checked and tested by the hotel management.

We thank you for your feedback and comments to help us continually improve our resorts.

Me and my boyfriend went to Malta a little bit scared after we read the reviews. We almost cancelled the reservation and booked another hotel at twice the price. Gladly, we didn't!

We paid so little for 5 nights in half-board. We couldn't get those prices anywhere else! If you're looking for a simple and confortable place, this is it.

We've been at both hotels, the Blue Sea Santa Maria and the Blue Sea San Anton (one on front of the other), because we had a minor incident (personal incident!) and the staff were impecable in changing our room when they didn't have to.

We were moved into a big big room, with two double beds and a big balcony. But even the room in Santa Maria was great, even though smaller.

Yes, in San Anton the room was really really hot and that was the only problem we had.
We slept with the fan on every night and with the window open, but we had in the reception desk fans if we wanted to. We didn't.

We ate very well every day, there was always a lot of food. If we didn't like something, we had other options all the time. I'm pretty picky with food, and there wasn't a single day I didn't end up satisfied.

For what we paid, we couldn't ask for anything else. It's perfectly acceptable and, honestly I don't get the reason why the reviews are so bad here. C'mon! If you want a 5 star service and a 5 star hotel, go to one! If you want a nice, simple one, this is it.

Don't go anxious like we did, there's no reason for that. If we come back to Malta sometime, and hopefully we will, we'll gladly return to San Anton / Santa Maria!

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the San Anton we initially booked for the Santa Maria but only spent one night there, in my honest opinion the Santa Maria should be closed if we had to stay in this hotel I genuinely think we would have had a terrible holiday. The hotel is dated and shabby and needs a massive cash injection to survive, a little tip if you book a single room for the San Anton you will be put in the Santa Maria as they don't cater for single rooms in the San Anton. If you are in Santa Maria and have a complaint and are polite they move you to the San Anton if they have availability. Right let's get down to some facts the trouble with Brits they expect too much, if you pay what we paid £1032 for two weeks all inclusive you have to be realistic if you want 4 or 5 star pay for it. This hotel has great staff who try there best on a budget to name a few Sadia on Reception, Leigh and Sam on Animation, Sandra, Linda and Paolo the Bar Staff all made our holiday. The San Anton is a good hotel which actually improved during the time we were there the rooms are a great size with 2 double beds, flat screen tv, balcony all the rooms have ceiling fans but could really do with air con as the temperature is in need of it. Due to the fact there is only a ceiling fan the natural thing you do is leave your window and curtain open but the balcony has a bright light you have to suffer until 6am(The hotel should put a switch in so you can turn the light off-simples) The pool area is welcoming and comfortable and soft drinks, ice cream and alcohol are available 10:00 - 23:00 after that all inclusive must pay(The let down to this system certain Brit Families who get us all a bad name drinking like alcho's all day, luckily we only had to suffer this for our last 3 days but there's always a chance people like this could be in any All Inclusive) The downside is the pool it's self it needs some serious work to get the water clear, it's ok I swam in it for two weeks and I'm alive but it's really murky so much so you can't see your feet if your stood in it. Reception area is clean very cool air conditioned and inviting, reception is very busy at times and needs two staff, however male staff staff members just ignored the queues and continued about there business, not good customer service. Now the serious downside - The Food I'm not a fussy eater at all but repetitive is the word breakfast is probably the safest with a good selection of food to suit most nationalities but this could be vastly improved with a fried egg/omlette station cooked in front of you to order as I have seen this be very successful in other hotels. But Lunch and Dinner consisted of bland tasting Turkey, Pork, Fish every day. One sort of veg and potatoes, pasta with a tomato sauce or white sauce with a good selection of salad but they were covered in weird sauces, personally I would rather have the salad in it's natural form and put any sauces on myself. The problem is they don't cook the food on site it is brought in from an outside caterer like UK school meals, mass made no taste and a big fail. However getting back to reality all in all we had a good holiday and it was value for money. We wouldn't return again but it's a decent budget hotel.

Having read several reviews beforehand we were extremely anxious about arriving at the hotel but had braced ourselves to expect the worst. We were lucky to be allocated a room in San Anton rather than Santa Maria, the much more modern looking of the two hotels.
The room was huge, clean and perfectly acceptable for the low cost of a week all inclusive. The balcony was incredibly spacious and luckily looked out over the pool and garden area rather than the road. Breakfast was fine, bacon, sausage, egg and a selection of breads along with cereals and fruit. We didn't have lunch as we were constantly out and about but did hear that as this was served in Santa Maria it was rather sub standard. Evening meal was again fine for the price, quite a few choices of meat, pasta, potatoes, rice, vegetables and salad. The food was by no means 5* but this should only concern you if you've paid 5* prices.
Staff were friendly and helpful, cleaning of the room was every other day and the communal areas were cleaned daily.
Rooms do get incredibly hot as the ceiling fan is pretty ineffective. I would advise hiring a desk fan for 1.50 EUR a day.

Room Tip: Ask for pool view, 5th floor rooms the most spacious.
