“This is Malta and you shouldnt expect the Ritz!”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Brilliant holiday and made the very best with Malta. Well after getting back today and i'd been building this review for a while and come to a conclusion. Malta is the same everywhere and the hotels and restaurants are all the same. Unorganised chaos! But this is Malta. Once you grasped this then this hotel is very acceptable.

On our arrival the hotel looked like it could do with a coat of paint, but already had! (maybe needed a re-render). The greeting from reception was polite and helpful. We just missed lunch and was expecting snacks, but no we had pool snacks Malta style. Cold processed ham and processed cheese. A bit of a gutting start but we pushed on. The room was VERY basic and very hot, day and night. The room was a good size and had good size beds. Our room was right in front of pool (1605) which was good for watching evening entertainment if don't mind loud noise and which was ok for us.

The drinks
were more than adequate and from the Mollones bar to the pool bar. The drinks were filled in 200ml cups which was fine for a while but when your going up every 20mins of a evening it gets a bit repetitive. The vodka and other spirits was acceptable but i'd say half the strength to Smirnoff so it take a little longer to get Piddled.

The house keeping
was nowhere to be seen for the first two days and had to ask for clean towels , but by day 3 it was every day until we left.

The staff
were very helpful and happy to give you drinks but it is sad to see guests taking 10 drinks to a table and leave them, just to be thrown away. The staff were under pressure all day and night and could only say they did well.

The food
was my main worry from the start but after missing lunch and left with the pool snacks (if you could call it that. It was up to our first evening meal, well on first impressions it was good and there was always something different. From our first evening it was roast beef with vegetables and gravy but there was everything really to suit everybody. Plenty of salad stuff and could make the most of what was there. Im a fussy eater and if anybody would get a dodgy belly it would be me. It was good and if you think what you have paid for your holiday and what you get you shouldn't be disappointed.

The pool
was something else and was even dangerous!
The pool was cloudy white and from the information I got the pool ph was reacting with sun cream and was making it cloudy. Which was fine but you can't see the bottom and on one occasion someone jumped on my son! And incase a person or child drowned you wouldn't find them as its to cloudy! Quite a serious note and take extra care with kids until its sorted. sun loungers are limited and for a reason as there isn't enough space. Sun bed wars is pretty bad as one couple got up every morning at 2:30 to put towels down in there favourite place! Sad really but it happens and if you want a sun bed you must go down by 8am to get a bed.

The entertainment
They had a tough job really but lacked imagination. The mornings entertainment was stretching and not really exciting. The morning stretching exercises should be scraped and spent more time on the afternoon or evening. The afternoon darts or pool was ok but needed more outdoor activities. The evening entertainment was ok but there is only so much Bingo you should play in one week and the singers need chucking in the swimming pool! Apart from the quiz and bingo the rest of the evening entertainment was tedious.

The Location
Its easy to get to from the airport but make sure you have the full address as most taxi drivers don't know its opened back up in its new name. Easy stroll to local town and coastal parts. Please don't try to walk on pavements at night and stick to road down back streets. The pavements are very dangerous in day let alone at night.

At the end of the day its a cheap and cheerful holiday. I always expect to much and glad I didn't with this place. Im giving it 4 out of 5 but should be a 3.5 really but it has potential in the future. Malta has been seriously hit by the poor economy and trying to make the best of what its got so please but patient and its worth the visit.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the San Anton. Took the grand children, aged 5 and 7 and they really loved it, didn't want to come home. I'll start with the positives ; The staff were all helpful and friendly, we had an issue with the pull down couch being unacceptable for the kids to sleep on, they put a matress on top, as requested, to make it more comfortable, and also put another bed in the room, sorted. The room, although not well furnished, was huge and adequate for our purposes. The pool/ entertainment area looks quite good when you are on your balcony and a crew of cleaners are always working to keep it looking ok. The pool bar is kept busy, but they appear to be coping well. The location of the hotel, although set well back from the front, is quite central for St Pauls Bay, Bugibba Square, and the bus station once you get your bearings. Unfortunately, the fact that the food is so bad, (we walked straight back out one night as there was nothing that looked edible left), makes any positives insignificant, thank heavens for Macdonalds. N.B. They will cook fried eggs, sausage, etc. if you rquest it, and are willing to stand and wait. As yet, there is no air conditioning in the rooms, only a ceiling fan, meaning the room is rather warm, but I was told that it will be installed at a later date. All in all, I would not hesitate to go back, if they sorted the catering out. As it stands, I would definately look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a poolside view as no traffic noise. The view from your balcony is also quite pleasant (we h...

We arrived at our hotel only to be advised that we would be moved to one of their sister hotels due to an issue with hot water in some of the apartments. The hotel we were moved to was in the middle of a very busy nightclub area so was not at all the kind of place for our planned romantic holiday celebrating our 1 year anniversary. They have offered us one week free but still have to find cheap flights.

The friendliness of the people we met made our holiday made a lot of friends and there was lots of kids so my nephew had a great time. The games room is bad all the machines are broken and it is a right mess. The pool is so cloudy from everyone wearing suncream which you need to wear especially the kids as it was in the 30's. The pool should have been cleaned but never saw anyone do so, you never felt refreshed when you went in it. It is also a nightmare getting sun beds so you usually have to sit on a chair. The room was cleaned once but not really cleaned just new sheets towels and bin emptied didn't even replace loo rolls had to go and get them from reception. Also the towels were not changed so had to ask for them too. The room is really hot there is a fan but it is just blowing warm air round. When we got there at about 1 we waited till 6 for our room which was really disappointing as this wasted a day of our holiday. One family had to go and stay in another hotel for the night and then come back the following day and got there room about 6 so they lost 2 days which is not on. The staff were mostly really friendly. The night entertainment was good but there could have been a lot more imagination spent on the kids entertainment in the day time. The food was ok same as usual for all inclusive always cold and the same stuff every day not much variety, just aswell there was a mcdonalds down the road as my nephew would not eat the food. Though for the money you cant complain and as it was so cheap you could afford to eat out a couple of times. Malta in general is a lovely place and would go back again but not to this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose an apartment as it has balcony and fridge etc and they are spacious, but there is no air cond...

Blue Sea ! never again , Just arrived home from one week at the blue sea hotel, st anton (all inclusive), this is a WARNING to all all others who are thinking of doing the same. Having arrived at 8 30 pm i was told it was to late to have a meal, We do not serve meals after 8 30 pm.I had to go to an outside restaurant at 845 pm. The receptionist was most disinterested about our plight, I was also given a note saying the t.v.was not working correctly ,we had no remote control to check this.No air conditioning in the bed rooms or the corridorsof this hotel. The room was large but sparsely furnished in chipboard, bed ,bedside table dressing table and wardrobe.Bath room shower was leaking this was because of the cheapest shower hose, tolet looked disgusting is there on bleach in Malta. Our dedspread had two large boot prints on the inside as if someone had walked over it. Having Not received clean bed linen and towels after 3 days i phoned the reception 4times with on reply, the last time i waited 16 mins but still on reply. Then i went to the receptionand asked for clean linen and towels but i was told by the receptions that i would only change our bed linen at home once per week!she said as a concession they would do the things asked for, they did the next day but did not remove the offending bedspread The food at all times was disgusting, stewed streaky bacon.sausages were processed chipolatas, beans were watery, plum tomatoes looked very old, the scrambled was in a block looked and tasted revolting.the toaster did not work correctly as i had to put the bread through the toaster three times, and they had chips on at breakfast time!. All the meals were cold ,no temperature checking or recording of the food at any time. The lunch did not improve with cold processed food, the evening meal was the same processed cold disgusting food, all the left overs were recyceled to the evening meal or the next days lunch.this went on all week. I only seen 3 sweets in 7 days all the same every day, sponge topped with dream topping, angel delight in plastic drinks cup and sorry looking choclate tart. con/t on new page,

Room Tip: never never never go to this so called hotel
