Brilliant holiday and made the very best with Malta. Well after getting back today and i'd been building this review for a while and come to a conclusion. Malta is the same everywhere and the hotels and restaurants are all the same. Unorganised chaos! But this is Malta. Once you grasped this then this hotel is very acceptable.
On our arrival the hotel looked like it could do with a coat of paint, but already had! (maybe needed a re-render). The greeting from reception was polite and helpful. We just missed lunch and was expecting snacks, but no we had pool snacks Malta style. Cold processed ham and processed cheese. A bit of a gutting start but we pushed on. The room was VERY basic and very hot, day and night. The room was a good size and had good size beds. Our room was right in front of pool (1605) which was good for watching evening entertainment if don't mind loud noise and which was ok for us.
were more than adequate and from the Mollones bar to the pool bar. The drinks were filled in 200ml cups which was fine for a while but when your going up every 20mins of a evening it gets a bit repetitive. The vodka and other spirits was acceptable but i'd say half the strength to Smirnoff so it take a little longer to get Piddled.
The house keeping
was nowhere to be seen for the first two days and had to ask for clean towels , but by day 3 it was every day until we left.
were very helpful and happy to give you drinks but it is sad to see guests taking 10 drinks to a table and leave them, just to be thrown away. The staff were under pressure all day and night and could only say they did well.
was my main worry from the start but after missing lunch and left with the pool snacks (if you could call it that. It was up to our first evening meal, well on first impressions it was good and there was always something different. From our first evening it was roast beef with vegetables and gravy but there was everything really to suit everybody. Plenty of salad stuff and could make the most of what was there. Im a fussy eater and if anybody would get a dodgy belly it would be me. It was good and if you think what you have paid for your holiday and what you get you shouldn't be disappointed.
was something else and was even dangerous!
The pool was cloudy white and from the information I got the pool ph was reacting with sun cream and was making it cloudy. Which was fine but you can't see the bottom and on one occasion someone jumped on my son! And incase a person or child drowned you wouldn't find them as its to cloudy! Quite a serious note and take extra care with kids until its sorted. sun loungers are limited and for a reason as there isn't enough space. Sun bed wars is pretty bad as one couple got up every morning at 2:30 to put towels down in there favourite place! Sad really but it happens and if you want a sun bed you must go down by 8am to get a bed.
They had a tough job really but lacked imagination. The mornings entertainment was stretching and not really exciting. The morning stretching exercises should be scraped and spent more time on the afternoon or evening. The afternoon darts or pool was ok but needed more outdoor activities. The evening entertainment was ok but there is only so much Bingo you should play in one week and the singers need chucking in the swimming pool! Apart from the quiz and bingo the rest of the evening entertainment was tedious.
Its easy to get to from the airport but make sure you have the full address as most taxi drivers don't know its opened back up in its new name. Easy stroll to local town and coastal parts. Please don't try to walk on pavements at night and stick to road down back streets. The pavements are very dangerous in day let alone at night.
At the end of the day its a cheap and cheerful holiday. I always expect to much and glad I didn't with this place. Im giving it 4 out of 5 but should be a 3.5 really but it has potential in the future. Malta has been seriously hit by the poor economy and trying to make the best of what its got so please but patient and its worth the visit.
