“Best Kept Secret in Bujibba”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

By far the best kept secret in Malta or at least in Bugibba. We had read some decent reviews from others and this particular restaurant was walking distance from our hotel. The experience was amazing. We were the only people there and it felt like they had opened up especially for us (maybe they had) , I had been expecting this as several other patrons had said so in their reviews but just like them me an my family were overwhelmed by the all manner of the dining experience, the speed of service, the friendliness, the tastiness of the food.

We went buffet which meant we could keep reordering as much as we wanted and whilst the girls were watching their figure my son and I did our best to immitate Homer Simpson and we literally kept piling it on.

Portions were a little small but you can keep re ordering so that was fine, every time the lady (I presum the co owner) disappeared behind a curtain all you could hear was a lot of shouting nd what sounded like rowing with the chef (maybe her husband) but far from be off putting this merely helped to add authenticity to the humble familybrun element of the business.

When we finished the lady who couldn't do enough for us gave us all a small trinket as a momento of our visit. In view the whole time was a banner across the width of the restaurant which read " HAPPY EVERYDAY" oh yeah and a step ladder and a pot of paint when the lady forgot to close the curtain fully.

Posh this is not but if you want tasty food, good value and service with a smile in a cost environment this restaurant is an absolute MUST.

“Nice little place”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

We enjoyed the meal here on our first night in town. The staff were very friendly and treated the kids great. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable.

“Unknown little gem”
Reviewed September 25, 2012 via mobile

This is an amazing family run restaurant. I can't understand how we were the only ones there because we couldn't fault the food or service at all. It only lacked atmosphere because of no customers.

The buffet is excellent value at €12.99 but even better at €12 for booking in advance when we wandered past earlier in the day. Each dish was well presented and good sized portions but you can order again and again.

Well worth a visit and we'll be visiting again

“Best Chinese, Brilliant!”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

This place is phenomenal. Went there yesterday, and was surprised at the fantastic service, price and quality of food. You sit down and you feel the family atmosphere. basically the buffet works like this, you order what you want, as many times and as much as you want and it is cooked for you there and then and brought to your table. The price is 13 euro and the quality is incredible. by far the best Chinese on the island. This is a real gem of a place, I suggest everyone should try it.

Brilliant!

“great food, nice homey place!”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

went to shanghai cooking when i was in malta in december last year over x'mas. it was the last evening meal we had before we went home the next day and was definitely one of the best meals we had throughout our trip. we had an a la carte buffet - can't remember how much it was, might have been more than 12 euros - you just order what you want, as many times as you want and it would be brought to your table. the lady owner was really sweet and nice and the restaurant seemed like a really cosy family business. we ordered a spicy, peppery sze chuan soup and also calamari, dumplings, spring rolls and chicken wings as starters - the latter were a bit funny as they came as individual items, so if you wanted more than one dumpling, you really had to specify! we also had the peking duck twice - it was lovely and crispy and also so beautifully presented! other mains we had were beef in honey sauce which my husband loved, stirfried veggie (we hadn't ordered any and the lady owner very kindly came to check the order with us), crispy skinned chicken, fried pork, stirfried noodles which were delish, and chilli prawns. some were in larger portions than others but overall freshly cooked and tasty. for the standard of the food and the amount, this was really good value and it was alot better than the chinese place we went to opposite our hotel, the relax inn. the lady owner also gave us a little trinket with the bill which i thought was a very sweet touch. i would definitely have gone back again if i had the time/ opportunity during the trip, it's a shame we only discovered it on the last night! if i am ever in malta and bugibba again, i will make definitely an effort to visit shanghai cooking again!!
