“Value for Money”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

We have stayed at the Coral Hotel on 5 occasions now and have had no complaints. Our first stay was following an overbooking at their sister hotel (Canifor) that resulted in our being transferred to this hotel. All of the staff at the hotel make you feel like part of the "Coral" family and do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable.
You have to remember that this is a 3* property and as such you should not expect fine dining or Eygptian cotton sheets however we have always found the hotel very clean and the meals satisfactory, especially breakfast. We paid £245 per person for a 4 night stay in July on an all inclusive basis, including flights. Exceptional value for money.
A short walk to Bugibba square for bars, restaurants if you wish to eat out, and gift shops for the wife.
To explore the island we initially used the hop on, hop off buses to get our bearings, but now use the local buses which are relatively inexpensive, to navigate around the island.
Malta is a wonderful island with stacks of things to see and do. For the history buffs sights ranging from the prehistoric, through medieval times to the second world war are all available here. For the shopper a day out in Valetta will satisfy all cravings. Beautiful sea views at every turn and lovely weather. We will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the building have the best views. However rooms at the back of the hotel are q...

Like many others that have stayed at the Coral Hotel, I feel that it's not living up to a it's full potential. The staff are great, nothing is too much trouble, the food is average, but good value for the money. The pool on the roof is all that you need to cool down after a days sight seeing.
What really lets it down are the rooms. we had a room at the front, with a good sized balcony. Unfortunately it faced out over the road. To say that it is a 24hr society puts it in context. The road is busy all day and most of the night. Was it because of the temperature? (22C) at 3am. Might be.
It was a problem because to keep the room temperature down to the upper 20'sC at night we had to have the balcony door open. Why not use the a/c? I hear you ask. The a/c was off because it only served to bump the temperature UP!
The whole place would benifit from some money spent on it, but as I said earlier, for the money good value.
It's well placed for all the local buses, very cheap and run regularly, a short walk to the bay at Bugibba, plenty of local shops in the streets behind and a good choice of small resteraunts nearby.
Overall a good base to work from.

Room Tip: Take a kettle for your early morning cuppa. Dont forget the plugs are UK type.

In all my reviews i have tried to be honest and fair with as little negativity as possible but The Coral Hotel has some problems that i feel i have to share with you before you consider a stay there.
Lets start on a positive note, the reception and waiting staff in the hotel are fantastic and fall over backwards to help you with your holiday.A special mention must go to Theadora and Charlie who work long hours in a variety of roles and are always cheerful and willing to have a chat and sort out any problems that you may encounter during your stay. The hotel itself is small but well laid out with a nice restaraunt and bar area, the rooftop swimming pool and sundeck is clean and peaceful and a good place to chill out, have a few drinks and get to know the other guests (mostly German during our stay).
The room that we stayed in was at the front of the hotel on the third floor with a balcony and a decent view (rooms at the back have no views at all) and the beds were firm and very comfortable.
The other positive about the hotel is its position within Buggibba,it is perfect with a short 5 min walk to the square with all its bars and restaraunts and the bus stops right outside the hotel so exploring the island is very easy.At this point i should mention excursions and day trips,Do Not book online before you go as they can be booked at the hotel (speak to Theadora on reception) for a much cheaper price. We went on the open bus tours £17 per person where you can hop on and off the bus all day to see the different villages and attractions that Malta has to offer,we especially liked the silent city of Medina which is beautiful. If you like markets then the 2 market trip on Tuesdays is good value at only £6.On Wednesday we went on the ferry trip to Sicily and Mount Etna with its breathtaking views, this is a very long day and costs £129 but is a fantastic excursion. The best day trip is definately the trip to Comino / Gozo and the amazing Blue lagoon on board The Hornblower which cost £20 each plus a £5 supplement for a guided mini bus tour of Gozo. You are collected and dropped off at the hotel on all these trips.

Now i have to come to the downside of The Coral beginning with the housekeeping which is terrible. We stayed for seven days and our bed linen was not changed once during that period, the tiled floor in our room was filthy and the towels which were only changed once after we spoke to the chambermaid were frayed and ripped. There are no tea making facilities in the room and the hotel charge £10 for the use of a kettle,There is a fridge in the room but you have to pay £12 to get the key to use it and the safe in the room which is just a standard key safe with no combination is available for £11 plus a £12 deposit. There is also a charge for the use of a hairdryer or ironing board. There is a tv in the room but it only has BBC world news,2 arab channels and 2 german channels and if you need a remote control then there is a charge to hire one.The air conditioning in our room and that of a number of people we spoke to did not work.
The restaraunt is my next bone of contention,it is supposed to be a buffet with all the food in hot trays with serving tongs but you are not allowed to help yourself and have to wait for a member of staff to serve you. When you are served the staff seem frightened to give you a decent helping and if you ask for more they seem shocked and reluctant to dish up a decent meal. The food itself is edible but uninspiring,we enjoyed the breakfasts but the evening meal was the same every day with one fish dish, one chicken dish and a different roast every night which would be ok if the potatoes and roasted meat were not served in a weird orange gravy.
The hotel should also post a menu on the notice board everyday so you can make a decision whether to eat in or go out for a meal at night without having to go into the restaraunt to see what is available first.
My last problem is with the checking out procedure, our flight was a night flight at one oclock in the morning and although it says in the hotel manual that late check outs can be arranged we were forced to check out at 11am leaving us 10 hours to kick our heels although i should say that there is a toilet and shower facility on the sixth floor that we were able to use during that period. The other problem with checkout is the baggage room which is by the front door of the hotel and has no door on it so it is not secure and anybody could have walked in and taken our cases.
There is one other issue which luckily did not affect us but during our stay a number of people (including a party of 10) turned up at the hotel for their holiday and were told that there were no rooms available for them and that the hotel would find alternative accomodation for them, this is very unproffesional and i would imagine incredibly frustrating and annoying for people with confirmed bookings who have made long tiring journeys.
To sum up,The Coral is a very average 3 star hotel that with a little attention to detail could be a real gem and i would recommend that you think about your own expectations and requirements before you book to come here.If you just want a base to visit Malta where you can sleep then this is a perfect choice for you but if you are looking for a Malta holiday experience then i would look for one of the more expensive hotels down on the seafront.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel and dont go all inclusive as the food is not great and the...

We were a bit sceptical booking this hotel, looking at some reviews, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We arrived at the hotel well after midnight and checking in was very easy as all the paperwork was ready and just to sign. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. Being all inclusive, we made full use of the restaurant for breakfasts, some lunches and evening meals. All the staff were extremely helpful and gave us plenty information as to the whereabouts of places to visit and how to get there.
The location is very handy for local things to see and do and is only a few minutes walk to the promenade and Bugibba Square, where there are plenty food and drink outlets should you need them.
Also nearby is the motor museum in Qawra, which is well worth a visit, and again, a short walk away.
One or two things could do with updating, like the shower, which was a little slow and leaked a little, but we did go at the end of the season so would have had plenty use by then.
All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay at The Coral, and would definitely go again and recommend to anyone.
Also thanks to the staff, Teodora ,Eugine, Charles, Mario and Manuel for helping us and providing a great service.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front can get very warm as they face East. Some may prefer a rear facing room which wi...

Hi, we have just come back from our great stay at the coral hotel in Malta. We have visited here before and we had a great time so thought we would come back. As soon as we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a very warm welcome from the receptionist and the manager. Check in was fine, we were told everything we needed to know, as we had stayed there before and the staff remembered us, we didn't need to be told all the information. our room was very nice with 3 beds and a balcony with a great view as well. Breakfast and evening meals was a great selection. There is a small pool on the roof top which is really nice and also has lovely views. All of the staff was very helpful and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks again to all the staff for a great stay and look forward to my next stay with you.

A lot of people have said bad things about this hotel, but I think they want 5 star for 3 star money .
The room we had was on the front of the hotel so we had a good view of the surrounding town and country side . The rooms on the back were looking at a wall I would not have been happy with that
We were half board , the food was limited choice but ok . You cannot expect a multi choice buffet in a small hotel there would be too much waste.
The room did have a drain smell when it was left shut for any length of time but so did most toilets we visited on the island including a 5 star hotel we visited. The room And bath room were clean Although a bit dated. There were minimum staff doing all duties ie the waiter would also have to be the barman and receptionist but they were very pleasant and friendly and did not complain . This hotel is nor recommended for all inclusive as there's is not much to do but it's a good base for the towns bars restaurants and busses for exploring.

I've been in this hotel with my husband about one week. We had all incl. option. It was VERY poor. Every time when we wanted order some drink we had to wait 5-10 minutes for service. They have just few kind of alcohol which you can pick. Also all inclusive option NOT include bottle water (they gave us a tap water) remote contron and a fridge (if you want to use them you have to pay 12 euro each!!!!) Furnitures were very old, beds were noisy, air con not working we had just a fan which was so noisy...Bathroom was horrible very old, dirty and mildewed shower curtain. Food was very basic and poor, all incl. option has got lunch which was good. location is good, staff is friendly. I advise pick another hotel. This hotel especially all incl. option is waste of money.

Room Tip: If you decide pick this hotel the best ask about street view room and first floor. and never NEVER t...
