my wife and I have just returned from a one week stay at the Sun Coast Buggiba, we found the hotel to be extremely friendly, very clean, with wonderful views of the sea, there is also a swimming pool complex, gym, squash courts, and ladies hairdresser,
they have just opened The Village Square bar, which serves refreshments and food at unbelievably reasonable prices, and the staff could not be more friendlier, the hotel staff from
receptionist Lillian, and Manual to the manager Mr Joseph Facciol, really made our stay a thoroughly enjoyable one

I would agree with almost everything ranjana b has to say - she has summed up the feel of the apartments, the friendly staff, the fantastically close location to transport, restaurants etc perfectly :) The apartments are also removed from the bustle while remaining remarkably close to everything. Also, in addition to all the closely located restaurants, the Village Square immediately below the apartments has just reopened with new owners and looks like it could be well worth a visit.
While accepting most of our time was spent outside in the glorious sunshine, the apartment was rather dark with only the main bedroom having access to true daylight - the living room/kitchen and 2nd bedroom had only a utility shaft outside to let in any natural light. But what a fabulous view overlooking the coastline!

I stayed in this lovely resort hotel for a couple of nights with my husband, our 2.5 yrs old kid & my mum. I can loudly say that this was one of the best hotels in the location for the price offered. I have to really scratch my head to find a single negative point about the hotel. The only thing is that the 1st impression of the exterior of the hotel was not that good as it is undergoing some refurbishment. We stayed in room 704 on the 7th floor. The apartment was huge & very well-furnished with spectacular views of the sea & overlooking the pool area. All the hotel staff were extra helpful & did their best to make our stay a comfortable one. Lillian & Manuel deserve a special mention in this regard. We were provided with a microwave immediately on request. The mini market was very convenient & reasonably priced. The pool area was lovely although the outdoor pool was a bit too cold. The hotel cab service was very reliable. The area itself is quite good with some very nice restaurants & nightclubs (the one inside the Sea Shells hotel is really good with cheap drinks). The hotel is located just 1min from the bus stop from where you can catch bus 221 (going to the Gozo ferry stop, Melliha bay) & 12 (going to Valetta, St Julians, Sliema etc). The bustling Bugibba Square is just around 15 mins walk from the hotel. The main Bugibba bus stop is just 10 mins away from the hotel. So overall a very good location. Malta itself is a lovely place with lots of things to do for tourists of all ages. Some of the nice places which must not be missed are St Julians (during late evening), Bugibba Square, Sliema, Gozo & Comino. In a nutshell, had a fantastic holiday & intend to return. Before I conclude I would like to thank George (the Blue Bird company driver arranged by the hotel) who drove us back to the airport & miraculously made it possible for us to catch our flight on time.

Room Tip: Go for any sea view rooms on the higher floors!!!!Its going to be heavenly!!!1

I have read reviews left by others who have stayed at the Sunny Coast and I really think some people ought to consider their expectations a little more before travelling. Someone recently gave it 2 out of five mainly because the area felt like it was stepping back into the past and there wasn’t much to do locally. Are these things the hotel’s responsibility then? I didn’t realise that. Surely, a huge part of Malta’s attraction for visitors has always been its old world charm or didn’t you know that? And any small amount of research would tell you where the nightlife is in Malta and it’s not in Qawra. Others seem to be offended that the hotel had decided to upgrade its reception area during the quiet season. Huh? Again, a small amount of research would have told you that this was going on. And when better to do it?

Anyway, myself, wife & 2 teenage children stayed for 4 nights in early April and were very impressed with the huge 2-bedroomed 7th floor apartment we were allocated (702). What great sea views. Furnishings were generally very good apart from the result of some abuse by previous occupants - why do some people do that? Just ignorance I suppose. The bedrooms in particular were very nice and looked like they had very recently been renovated. The kitchen equipment was fine but I would definitely think any 4 star self-catering apartment must surely have a microwave. That was a big negative for us. We have stayed in many s/c apartments in Spain, Portugal, Italy, etc, and they have always had a microwave. Refrigerator could also have been cleaner too and was damaged, again presumably by some previous occupants who have no respect for other people’s property. Tv reception was poor but we didn’t go on holiday to watch TV but we did manage to stay up to date with uk news.

As many others have reported, all the staff were friendly and very helpful which always makes things better. There’s nothing worse than unhelpful, surly staff when you’re on holiday. Towels were changed every day.

Being on the corner of the building, we had four balconies, one for each bedroom and two for the lounge/kitchen area. Only problem with this arrangement though is that because the bedrooms are on the roadside of the building, even at 7th floor level, it sounded like the locals spent the whole night racing along the main road. Not the hotel’s fault of course, but it was a bit noisy at times.

We didn’t use the spa or indoor pool while we were there but had a look around it and it all seemed ok.

We found the location fine. Many good restaurants & bars and plenty of shops & supermarkets within 15 minutes walk - we don’t mind a 15 minute walk by the way but some obviously do. We also had a car which meant trips to the sandy beaches of Ghadira Bay and the gorgeous Ghajn Tuffieha Bay as well as the old colonial charm of Valletta and the superb Grand Harbour were all within very easy reach for those that can be bothered.

We enjoyed Malta in general and I personally found it a charming and fascinating place and would go back again. Would I stay at the Sunny Coast? It was certainly good value so maybe I would. If I didn’t, it would probably be for the sake of variety and certainly nothing to do with any shortcomings the hotel may or may not have had.

Room Tip: The views from the upper floors are excellent especially those with sea views.
