“not bad.........but”
Reviewed August 22, 2011

Second time we have stayed here and for our needs it's not bad. We just want a cheap clean room as we are out most of the time. We love Malta and go every year this year twice. We stayed in the Cardor self catering apartments....no balcony. We like to have a sit out on a balcony and have a drink but not for us. Very frustrating when the room opposite us had a big terrace. Anyway..what will drive you mad is the lift. OMG you here it all the time as everytime it stops and the doors open it has an alarm...bing bong constanly at night aghhhhhh drove us mad!!! Anyway rooms basic clean and clean towels and beds made everyday. Although the towels sometimes had holes in and a bit raggy. Self catering mmmm using the little cooker is a laugh you can't use the oven and the rings at the same time so cooking a meal is a bit difficult, but to be honest plenty of cheap restaurants around and I hate cooking anyway.

We didnt use the pool however its only small and the pool are is really cramped.

The worst thing about our stay is this - The Crador is joined onto the Canifor hotel so you use their reception. The staff are so rude, ignorant and totally seem to be doing it deliberately. I work in retail and can't abide rudeness and despite our best efforts to be as pleasent as possible were met with such blatant rudeness. They reaaly need a lesson in customer service. I don't know if it was because we were staying in the Cardor not the Canifor but...we were only using them to get the room key!!!!

I would go back, it's cheap but if you are choosy and your hotel is part of the total holiday experience then read all the reviews before you decide.

I have stayed in the Palm Court / Qwara Inn so in comparison it's a palace !!!

Room Tip: Take ear plugs for the lift !!

Disappointed on arrival at Cador apartments as we didn't have a balcony or area where we could sit outdoors in the evening or for breakfast. Felt more like a bedsit apartment and not on holiday. Asked if we could be moved and told to ring main reception next day but asked them to ring for me instead. No joy at first but once back in the room the lady on reception came up to our room and took us over the road to the Canifor court apartments and showed us an apartment on the 4th floor which was much bigger and had a balcony which suited us fine. We were very suited by her swiftness to address our problem and had a great holiday. Central to all amenities. bus station, eateries and seafront. Weather brilliant, Maltese friendly and food/drinks cheap with many restaurants offering free wine with your meal! Many bars offering beer at 1euro! Would definitely go back!

on arriving at the Cardor late at night, the surly man at reception gave us keys to apartment 302. We told him we had come on an all Inclusive Holiday and that as we had been travelling for hours we were hungry and would it be possible for us to have a snack. We were told no. We had to go and look for somewhere to eat at 12.30am. Upon entering room 302 you could immediately smell the damp. This apartment only had one window and this was in the bedroom which looked out onto the bare wall of the back of the hotel. So as you can imagine it was not only damp it was dark and dank. We went back to Reception and told the surly man that we could not possibly stay in that room as it resembled a prison cell, only to be told there was nothing he could do and we would have to come and speak to the Receptionist the next morning. One night in Room 302 was horrible. Next morning we went to Reception and asked to be moved to a room with a balcony which we fortunately got after waiting a few hours.

I know the Cardor is classed as a 4* hotel for Malta standards so only expected 3* and as i work in a hotel here in England i didn't expect it to compare to our * ratings.

The food in this Hotel is horrible. Breakfast....... Cheap Cereals, Bread toasted on one side only. Bacon that was all stuck together and looked like the pigs teeth were still attached to it, fried eggs that were hard and rubbery, poached eggs with froth on them. Beans ok.
Lunch was bland, and tasteless. Veg soup 1 day and it had bits of ham in it.
Dinner was bland and tasteless. instant mash, carvery but the meat looked and tasted like it had been boiled, tinned veg and the so called chefs serve you and as they do they not only put the food onto your plate they pour all the water from the veg and boiled potatoes onto your plate as they do not drain it.
I am not a fussy eater but this food was sometimes inedible.
Malta is a beautiful place but unfortunately this hotel let the holiday down. I rate this hotel a 2*

Room Tip: Always ask for a room with a balcony

I booked this hotel for 4 nights with breakfast and evening meal, which in total cost £94 for two people. I booked at the CANIFOR but on arrival was put in the CARDOR complex. The room was very basic, just as it would have been back in the 70's and it hasnt been touched since... so no frills but what do you really expect for the price. Was on the top floor with a private 'sun terrace' and sun beds (room 503 i think). Again very basic, however it had th sun all day unlike the pool area and was very quiet.

Basic room aside, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food wasn't out of this world but there was choice and it was all nice enough. There was an indoor cafe area by the pool with a small and basic childs area which my 2 year old daughter enjoyed. The bar upstairs was open till late with entertainment.

All in all, having stayed at many hotels in malta its OK. If you are looking for a cheap stay and the weather is good then it is worth a try, If i came across that bargain price again i would go back!!

Just got back (today) from two weeks at Cardor. We were self catering and really only used the room and balcony. We overlooked Murphy's Irish Pub (though didn't go in it because the Knickerbocker Cafe just up the road was just too good) very little noise. Sun first thing and then late afternoon until 19:30. View of the sea in two directions. Looked a bit run down to start with (but the whole area does) but all in all in was just what we wanted. Room was cleaned daily - beds made and towels/sheets changed from time to time. No complaints and we will return.

after reading so many negative reports my girlfriend and myself were dreading what we let ourselves in for.the apartments were very old fashioned but very clean and were cleaned daily.the location was great, close to the bus station and to the sea front.plenty of bars and resturants at very cheap prices.would go back but maybe in summer months as the watersports and waterpark werent open yet..overall holiday very good and maltese people were very friendly.this complex is ideal for a low budget holiday

On arrival we were given the keys to someone elses room... Not a great start. We were then put in a horrible dark room with only one window like a cave so the next day we asked to move and were put in the nicer 505. The rooms all smell like smoke and it was cold with only a very thin blanket on the bed and threadbare sheets. We were only there in the evening but you wouldn't want to lie around there all day. Maria the housekeeper was so lovely and friendly. Don't est at the canifor as there are so many lovely restaurants nearby and cheaper.
