Owner description: The Malta National Aquarium project is spread over approximately 20,000 square meters and comprises a public aquarium, a public landscaped belvedere at promenade level, a multi storey car park, facilities for local dive schools, catering facilities including a beach club, a merchandise outlet and a tourist information kiosk. The public aquarium has 41 tanks including reptiles, insects and amphibians, amongst others, Mediterranean fish, including fish commonly found in Maltese waters together with replicas of historical artefacts that one can find in the seas around the Maltese islands. The main tank of the aquarium houses species from the Indian Ocean, including eight black tip sharks, horn sharks, rays, eels and other exotic species. The main tank is approximately 12 meters in diameter and has a walk-through tunnel that allows visitors to experience the fish at a much closer range. All tanks are expertly themed to replicate the underwater environment. Additional features of the public aquarium include a class room facility, interpretation, touch pools, a temporary exhibition space, veterinary and quarantine facilities, etc. The national aquarium is in an iconic curved shell structure in the form of a starfish. The adjacent promenade provides additional recreation facilities for pedestrians including a children's play area. The Malta National Aquarium has a car park with a capacity for 140 cars. Our Location: The Malta National Aquarium is situated in the northeast of the island in a town called Qawra which forms part of St. Pauls bay. In this touristic hotspot one can find many Hotels, bars, restaurants and a casino all forming part of the unique resort location in the Maltese Islands. Qawra is also the site of one of the many towers built by the Knights of St. John. Qawra Tower is now a restaurant. Qawra is also well known as the "touristy" area of Malta due to the many bars, restaurants. Casinos and clubs are also a major part of this small town. Distance from Qawra to: Airport : 22 KM Mellieha : 8 KM St. Julians to Qawra: 12 KM Valletta to Qawra: 17 KM

The National Aquarium is quite new, in a nicely designed building, which is kept clean. It also has a restaurant and shop in it too.

I really like fish and sea life so it appealed to me to visit. There are some nice species of sea life available to see, some of the tanks the fish are in are well decorated but some are a little bit bare and could be doing with a bit more inside them. There was two divers in feeding the fish, which was good to watch.

I felt that there could certainly have had more detailed descriptions of the sea life on display in each tank and overall a little bit more in the whole aquarium to view. The entry fee is a bit expensive, 12.90 Euro per adult and you can easily see everything within one hour.

Overall it was worth a visit, but it needs a bit of improvement or to drop the price of the entrance fee.

The aquarium is very new but the experience is out of this world. All the display tanks represent differing areas, are clean and well-maintained. There are plenty of staff around, all of whom are friendly and knowledgeable, willing to answer questions and generally very helpful. Most enjoyable and, unusually, educational visit, everything from shark eggs to the real thing. SUPERB.
However, the restaurant inside the aquarium do not serve sandwiches, only meals. Hence if you only want a snack I would advise eating before entering. Food in the restaurant is of good quality bu rather expensive.
On the whole a most enjoyable and rewarding experience to be highly recommended and worth another visit.

This is new in Malta and very good. They had sharks eggs saved from a shark that a fisher man has caught. Nice to see they have been rescued. There were lot's of staff around giving you information about the fish and it was good to have that personal touch and made the visit educational as usually you just look at the fish and never read the info next to the tanks!! #Nice new modern building and a nice cafe on the way out although they had stopped serving food so i have no info on that!!

Had an excellent morning here. The staff were fantastic and very enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge of the fish etc. Would thoroughly recommend it. The café was excellent as well.
