Stayed 4th May to 12th May 2013.
I had expected worse than I got to be fair after reading some of the reviews, but when I am paying £25 per head per night all inclusive (hotel only) there has to be a limit to the quality and facilites. So my criticisms are limited to serious issues (potentially damaging to health) that make this a good 3 start hotel in my view, not a 4 star.
Food was plentiful, varied, but lacked taste and did not look appetising. It was mass catering (400 guests) and served in big trays. I did not starve, but felt I had to choose carefully, especialy after a bout of D&V within half an hour of finishing lunch 3 days into my week. I and my table friends were convinced it was the cold pork, as I was the only one to have it and we all had an overlap of everything else.
Someone else was heard throwing up as well!
On 2 occasions the breakfast bacon was not cooked enough, on 1 occasion the pork not cooked at dinner. I decided to stay away from any meat I could not see because of a sauce. Breakfast was not attractive to me although fried eggs were ok. No fresh fruit. Puddings all pastry based.
I could go on a bit here, because I thought a lot was wrong that needed just a bit more attention and that is the fault of the management as I am not talking about spending money, just doing it better. HOWEVER, lots of people ate huge quantities and said they loved it, so it depends on taste and what you are used to at home. I had 2 great evening meals out of 7, 2 ok, 3 nights really had to pick at the food.
The hotel has cockroaches. Heard of someone complaining their room/aparrtment had one and one ran across the dancefloor one night and the barman ran over and crushed it! Thats modern jive for you! Did not see any anywhere else.....
My only other gripe about the hotel that was in their control was the pools and jacuzzi. They had a lot of dirt on the bottom and it was not cleaned for a week and I checked daily from the roof terrace to see what state they were in! I did not risk using them and the outside water was cold anyway, but the inside pool apparently was like a hot tub. Jacuzzi seemed dirty and only 1 of 8 jets worked. Not worth the risk as this water is likely never to be changed.
Nights were very disturbed from late night revellers who can't keep quiet and bang doors and then in early hours people leaving the hotel to go home. So over 8 nights I think I got 3 nights undisturbed sleep to a reasonable hour, but that is the trouble with most holiday hotels and I am not complaining, just warning those of you who don't like to be disturbed. (rent a villa!) I caught up with sleep around the pool!
I found most staff to be very friendly and have a sense of humour. Worst people ran the restaurant - they did not like it one bit if you turned up just before advertised closing time and I had to insist on eating at 13.45 when closing time was 14.00. Reception was great, bar staff great day and night with the evening barman doing a FANTASTIC singing session on karaoke night. Room clean and comfortable if a little basic and tired. Cleaner did a great job daily. Position of hotel fantastic for seafront, bus station and nightlife. Evening entertainment was keyboard music/singing 6 nights a week - not designed for children or young adults - ballroom style dancing/music and on Fri/Sat nights very popular with locals which added some atmosphere to the place.
Good quality drinks.
In summary, good value all inclusive, don't expect luxury, take problems with a pinch of salt, there are always some problems, I would go again to this hotel
