The hotel is perfectly placed for the local busy street and bus station and easy walk to sea fronts. they are 5 - 10 min walk away and the area where the hotel is situated is very quiet so best of both worlds. Room was large. Double bed was really 2 singles pushed together but singles were large beds in themselves. The weather wasn't really good enough for swimming but pool looked well maintained. Unfortunately they wouldn't open the indoor pool until after 10am as they put chlorine in every morning. Meant no chance to swim before breakfast. And we didn't find the sauna until the last day which was a pity. The gym was indeed 2 machines, a cycle and a step machine. Its a great clean hotel for a base. And we would stay here again if we came back to Malta

This was our first visit to Malta.
Really glad we booked this hotel as we prefer the smaller hotels rather to the larger hotel. It is in a lovely position and handy for walking distance to bus station, bars and restaurants.
We stayed one week half board. The breakfast was adequate for us, evening meal enough choice with meat dishes & usually one fish dish, dessert was a bit hit and miss but usually found something.
Rooms were cleaned everyday with fresh bedding and towels. Had problems with my first room so asked to be moved and was moved when a room became empty.
Staff were lovely, Rosalyn reception and James from dining room are a credit to the hotel.
We would go back as we really enjoyed our stay.

We are just back home after a 6 night stay at Il Palazzin, I chose here after reading reviews on Trip advisor and it was pretty much what i expected it to be, it is not 4 star by UK standards and some of it could really do with updating, the shower in our room for example, powerful and if you had it on the hook it made the floor very wet, but we just held it instead. The room was clean and spacious, we stayed in 216. The mattresses are new and very hard, bit too hard for me but that personal preference. Most of the staff were lovely, especially Rosalyn on the front desk, and Simon the manager and there was a lovely young lady in the restaurant in the mornings but also a rather surly lady who never spoke to us once the whole time we were there. We did not eat dinner so cannot comment on this. I would recommend you book direct, we had upgrade to sea view room, a bottle of wine and water in our room and a harbour cruise (although there was some slight confusion as to who we were going with). Breakfast was plentiful and buffet style continental, with Maltese sausages and beans and one day boiled eggs and next day scrambled eggs, cerals, fruits, yoghurts , breads cheese and meats etc. All in all good value for money, but do not expect 4 star, if you are using as a base as we did, it does the job. Would go back if we went to Malta again but we did pretty much the whole of Malta in our time there. (we hired a car)..

Room Tip: Book direct for a sea view room upgrade etc, we stayed in 216 no noise as such but could hear breakf...

No its not 4 star but for the price we paid it was amazing value. The rooms were cleaned every day and were spotless clean, towels were provided every other day. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were good although we didn't eat any other meals in the hotel.
All in all the hotel rooms are a little tired looking and the small tv didnt get very good reception., the gym really isnt a gym its a couple of excercise machines. However if you are goining on holiday and you just want somewhere clean and friendly to sleep, shower and have breakfast this hotel is perfect. I would definatley stay there again if i return to Malta.

Im just back from a 7 night stay in this hotel, and it was really not what we expected at all. We had booked a double room, only to be give a twin, the fridge in the room was locked; the shower was old and slightly broken, with no power to the water at all, just a steady trickle. the room was small and comfortable but every morning the maids disregarded our 'Do Not Disturb' sign and came into the room - we had read that due to water shortages there was no need to get room service everyday, and realistically, at home you dont get fresh sheets everyday anyways.

We had went looking for the gym, indoor pool, and other services, which were directed towards the ground floor but there was nothing to be found. When we did find these facilities, we were disappointed to find that the gym was a bike and a cross-trainer, and the pool was about 8'x8' and only 2' deep. Not overly impressed to say the least. That was about the height of the 'extras'.

Dining wasnt too bad - we had opted for B&B, which had enough variety each morning. We had dinner twice in the hotel too, as they had a deal for B&B customers. all meals were self service in a carvery manner. The food was ok, i had hoped for maybe one maltease inspired dish at the hotel but it was all very european. the staff were polite at all times.

the hotel location was fairly good, only a few mins walk to bus/shops/beach. the most off putting thing was the number of cats that hung around, and that they stayed on the sun loungers overnight. The night staff also seemed to feed them, as many a night on returning to the hotel, we found the cats eating from the hotel crockery. this definately didnt help. also, the loungers were never wiped down in the morinings, so needless to say, we never used them or the pool at the hotel. The internet wifi available was tempermental at best, and also, vouchers had to be purchased from the reception desk to use this.

overall, Malta was a brilliant holiday destination, but the accommodation wasnt up to standard, definately not a 4*.

I travelled to Malta at the end of September and stayed at the Il Palazzin. It was clean and quiet and a little quaint but definitely not a four star, more a basic three star. It didn't do what it said on the tin. It had a bike and a step machine as a gym, no jacuzzi and a sauna that was never on. The fridge in the room had to be rented and the internet was not available all the time as they ran out of vouchers for it. The internet is run by an independent contractor and is operated using vouchers purchased at reception. The breakfast was basic and changed very little from day to day, boiled eggs to scrambled eggs every second day being the only change I noticed. The sunbeds were in need of a good cleaning and a number of them were broken, the mats for them were dirty, and that description is being generous to them. On one occasion had to be left in at night time by guests as the night porter had gone missing. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and the hotel is well located, close to most activities and the bus station. As for advertising rooms with satellite TV. My room had a very small TV which only worked on an infrequent basis, had five channels, four in a foreign language and the one channel in english was Euronews which kept repeating the same news over and over. Malta was five star, alas the Il Palazzin was not. Would return but would change accomodation.

First impressions not so good. I had booked a superior room with sea view on high floor due to recommendations on this site. On arrival we were allocated room 113 which was a dingy corner room on 1st floor, very dated, dark and basically horrible. I went to reception and Roslyn said all sea view rooms were booked until next day so to bring our luggage down at breakfast and she would allocate us a room on 4th floor with sea view. Not ideal as we couldn't unpack but next day we were moved to room 412 which was a nice big airy room with a nice sea view, we felt as though we could come back to the room and relax rather than dread coming back as we had to the first room. The hotel is very quiet with mostly older tour holiday makers from Holland and Germany which is fine although a bit lacking in atmosphere. On the couple of days we went to the pool we had it to ourselves, not heated but not too bad once brave enough to plunge yourself under. Centrally located for the bus station, a few restaurants within 5 min walk and loads more along the sea front, not a lot going on at night, we went into the San Antonio Hotel a couple of nights to watch the entertainment, drinks in San Antonio cheaper than il Palazzin. Breakfast at hotel was ok, eggs, sausages beans plus all the usual cold meats etc. All in all if you get a nice room then this hotel is excellent value for money and a nice quiet place to stay, it is a little dated and needs upgrading but its quirky and ok. Not sure if I would stay there again, maybe if I could guarantee a nice room and the price was right.

Room Tip: Choose superior sea view room on either 4th or 5th floor.
