“Pleasing the customer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

We found the Plumtree via this website. The food was really fantastic. I'm a vegetarian, and the meal was tailor-made to my wishes. It was one of the best vegetarian meals I've ever got.
Also my dinner-partner was very enthusiastic about her meal.
Further the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. The customer comes in the first place.
A real top restaurant, with eye for the customer!

“Two tier service.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

My husband and I stopped for a drink mid week day time. John came out and spoke with us and made us feel very welcome. We had dinner there that night and although the food was good it was again the hospitality that won us over.
Imagine our dismay when we returned to dine on a Saturday night. We were told that the only tables available were either by the door or outside the kitchen beside the ladies loo.
John mildly acknowledged us and the waitress when asked about a meal on the fish menu to us "its a fish". We had already worked that one out.
The reserved tables did not fill up during our time there but people who we were told were friends of the owner came in and refused the reserved tables and asked to be placed in the bar area.
John the owner could not do enough for them, traipsing through with an assortment of dead fish for them to peruse prior to cooking.
We felt like second class diners and made this point to the waitress when paying our bill.
Seems the tourist only matter mid week when the Maltese stay home.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the The Plum Tree.
We do try our best to make our guests feel as welcome as possible and accommodate their seating requirements.

Clearly we failed on your last visit with us. We are truly sorry.

We are obliged to keep a table for diners, tourist or local who make a reservation.
On the night the guests you mentioned. Asked to be seated in the Bar area instead and we obliged.

I went to the first table occupied by a family of four, of which one has a dietary requirement. To discuss their meal.
I later went to the second table with a Red Snapper which they had ordered (off our daily Specials) as it was not big enough for both of them. (They added a Seafood platter to their order).
After service I normally come out and have a chat with all who are present . As you kindly noted happened on your previous visits.

Thank you once again

John & Joan

“Food always excellent but the wine list needs clarification”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

Unfortunately this resturant is closed over Christmas and New Year, when I sometimes visit Malta. I welcomed the lady with 'Happy New Year', as you do when you haven't seen some since the year before - but she was so dismissive. There is a need for someone to look at the wine list, and make it explanatory as the lady says she knows nothing about wine. I asked her about the wines and the quantities they served, but was given differing information by the lady. She said that didn't know what the house wine was 'as it comes in a box' - a provided taster was not to my taste - to be polite! She said she does not drink wine, so said she could tell me nothing about the wine list. Such a shame, but I left as I had had three weeks of being shouted at by the Maltese - usually men, and would not take any more! Madam has to be nice to customers, and someone who knows about wine should advise this otherwise excellent restaurant which wines they should provide, and how to present their drinks menu. Nothing wrong with Green Label, which I found to be the most consistent house wine in the island - apart from in one location!

“Excellency personified!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

We go for Sunday Lunch every week and have taken friends with us too and have always had most delicious roasts of beef or lamb and all accompniments beatifully cooked and yorksire puddings to die for. Today we had John's special panacotta with a cherry and plum sauce and I can tell you, I shall be having this again next week and recommending it to any visitors who are with us dining. Joan and John are wonderful hosts and their waiter, son Kyle is also a friendly person and also Marion who also waits on our table most weeks. Best place I have found in Qawra and as we have lived here since April 2012, have tried a few establishments for Sunday Lunch and NOWHERE beats the quality and service of The Plum Tree. Long may they reign there because when they are on holiday, we cannot find anywhere else that competes with this little gemstone.
