“Beware of this hotel offering special promotion (you wont get a refund if you need to cancel)”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2011

We were called by them in February this year saying they were offering a special promotion for guests who had had problems with previous stay to try their newly refurbished rooms for £150 for a week with no utililty charge on the condition that you attend a welcome meeting (obviously to sell timeshare or upgrade to you)
We booked a week in October this year and we paid half of the money in march with the rest to be paid in a couple of months time.

My partner has since lost his job, so i emailed the hotel to ask for our money back as we will not be able to go. The hotel emailed back saying it was not refundable but would keep it open for 12 months for us or a family member.

We were not told this was non refundable, we cancelled 4 months prior to the date, the hotel have no right to keep this money. Not happy so be warned anyone else who takes up this offer

I agreed this booking at a "special rate" which was reasonable and on condition that I attended a "welcome meeting". This I agreed to and I was advised that we would be collected at the airport by a representative of the Complex. We arrived after midnight and there was no one waiting to collect us. I called Salina Wharf and was told that they had no record of the reservation. We got our own taxi in the end and at reception the same information was confirmed. (We later found out that the booking had been made for 2012, although I had quoted 2011 in my correspondence).

They agreed to put us in a room for the night and told us to follow this up the next morning. The room was below ground level and although it looked presentable, smelled very musty. The next day they showed us another room which was only slightly musty, but in generally good condition, clean and modern. There was a leak from the toilet cistern and the shower seal was broken. We kept this room for the week. On day 3, a note appeared under the door that invited us to meet John the next morning at 10am. He seemed surprised to see us, and this was looking like another 'mix-up'. Undaunted, he launched into the Mr Matey routine of a time share seller. I went along with this as I had agreed to a "welcome meeting". After some considerable time during which he refused to name a price for this venture, he called over his boss whose job it was to close the sale and deliver the price. When it was clear that we were not interested, they became quite off-hand, and were totally against us having any time to ourselves to contemplate this deal. I was put off by their unprofessional behaviour to say the least.

We didn't let this spoil our stay although it did leave a nasty taste in the mouth. The Salina Wharf staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. The quality of the complex was OK although we did not use the restaurant as there was not often a vegetarian option available.

I enjoyed Malta but would not rush back at this time of year as the heat can be oppressive if you want to move around and explore, and the lack of sandy beaches was for me a down side. If I did go back, I would not particularly choose this place above any other. The pool area is a little cramped and the balcony space is small and likely to have no view.

reading these bad reviews makes me want to disregard any other hotel reviews in future, i stayed here in 2010 with my mum, the hotel was beautiful. the staff were soooo friendly aand respectful, always sir and madam, the man behind the reception desk had me and my mum in stitches every day. upon our arrival, a man called david took both mine and my mums luggage and showed us to our beautiful room... the room was beautiful, cleaned every day of the week except wednesdays, towles changed regularly, everything in working order, beds exceptionally comfortable only minor complaint is the chain wouldn't flush but that was sorted within minutes of reporting it. the pool area did have flies but that's hardly the hotels fault is it? it was clean and plenty of sunbeds. you can't go to a hot country and not expect insects. my mum and i didn't eat in the hotel as we prefered to explore and eat out, but the drinks were reasonably priced. i tripped on one of my shoes and broke the balcony door but the staff were so understanding and mended it straight away. this is one of the best holidays i'v been on and i was a twenty-three yr old on holiday with her mum!! the hotel made this holiday, i was very sad to leave. we stayed or one week and had booked into a 5 star hotel for a further two nights, it was nice but the 5 star hotel had nothing on salina wharf. would definitely recommend it and definitely go back. just the place for a nice relaxing holiday, i would recommend for families and older couples and groups. didn't rate the spa as we didn't use it.

Clean and tidy wirh the best air conditioning in Malta.
The pool is kept very clean. Good food and you can get a good pint of beer.
Handy for buses to anywhere on the islands.

We stayed at the hotel in November 2010. We found the welcome very pleasant, no problems at all. We were showed to our apartment which was on the 5th floor - but this is not a problem as there is easy access via a modern lift. A young guy helped carry our cases.

The apartment was very nice. A home from home. Very clean and modern. We had a fully functioning kitchen area with everything you can think of to prepare meals. The appliances were top of the range... SMEG cooker, SMEG fridge... We also had a 4 seat wooden dining table with black leather chairs. The living area had full pull out double sofa bed and a 32inch plasma TV. The TV channels varied but had a wide English selection including Sky News, BBC Entertainment, Living etc... We had patio doors and balcony leading from the living area. This had lovely views of the sea.
The bathroom was very clean and modern with a fixed jet shower head and also a hand held shower head. This was tiled from floor to ceiling and always had piles of fresh fluffy white towels.

The bedroom was very spacious with plenty of storage for cases and clothes. We had a 32inch plasma TV in there too. (Same TV channels) The bed linen was changed every 2nd day and fresh towels were left in the bedroom also.

A hairdryer is supplied but it is very slow so you're probably better taking your own.

The biggest disappointment we had while we were there was that the indoor pool was drained for maintainence. We asked throughout the week when it would be filled but got so many different days and dates we gave up! As we went in November I suppose the hotel cannot be at fault for doing their maintainence work out of the peak season times. As for the outdoor pool, it was full of leaves and scum at the bottom (maybe it was due to be cleaned next) - but anyway it was far too cold to use it so no harm done.

All in all we would recommend the hotel. It was very clean (no sign of any cockroaches on the attack!) and in a good location to Buggiba bus station and surrounding restaurants.

When we arrived at about 5pm, the receptionist was rather grumpy on checking us in but after this seemed really pleasant, we were shown to a fourth floor room, having been upgraded. which was clean, spacious and had everything needed for a family of four, including 2 large flat screen t.v's, kitchen equipment and plenty of fresh towels, which were changed regularly. The balcony was a little small... bit of a tight squeeze for 4 chairs and a table and it did over look the street but also the sea. The indoor pool was icy but our kids did have a quick swim in there! There is also a games room for kids although there wasn't much in there, my daughter has become an avid air hockey fan!
The location was good... its a short distance to the bus station... you can get buses virtually anywhere from here and a 5 day pass is 11 euros which is great. Although the journeys can be a bit circuitous, lenghty and uncomfortable, its all part of the adventure! There are plenty of shops and restuarants nearby or a short walk to Buggiba will take you to more. The supermarkets seem to shut very early... about 6pm so if your out on a day trip make sure you've stocked up first as nothing will be open when you get back. We had brekfast a couple of times in the hotel restaurant, which was fine, we didn't eat there at night tho as the food was all very english and Elvis impersonators and kareoke are not really our thing! Its just as easy to walk for 5 minutes and find a local rerstaurant... probably cheaper too! There was one particular chinese restaurant near the bus station ( cant remember the name, but easy to find as it has lit up palm trees outside) where the food was great. Even out of season there is plenty to do in Malta and there were lots of tours on offer. We especially liked the Gozo/Commino trip which can be booked in most places and as it was November we had the trip all to ourselves! We also did a trip to Sicily... i'd probably advise against this as its an extremely long day and all in all you probably on spend maximum 4 hours off the coach.
We had a great holiday here and as long as your not looking for complete luxury Club Salina Wharf is great... we rarely spent much time in our room anyway as there was too much to see. I would definately go back again!
