“Lovely place overall, but could be so much more, though the views are amazing”
Reviewed August 11, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We arrived at [--] around 10pm. A nightwatchman showed us to our place. We had seen the pictures of the apartment and so knew it wasn't modern. I don't want to give the place a bad review, as the owners were really helpful, and i don't want to put them in a bad light. So below i have done a list of pro's and con's and then an overall final comment.

Bathrooms old fashioned. Though hand held shower was decent.
Kitchen - again, old fashioned, not that well equipped -.very old cooker, we only used it twice. The oven isn't great at all. We just cooked things that could be cooked on the gas rings alone. There isn't very much equipment in the kitchen - no veg peeler, for example, and no wine glasses.
Main room: just felt really soulless. Really old, faded pictures on the walls. Plastic flowers in brown plastic pots, a huge old TV that didn't work, sofa that could do with the covers cleaned...
Wifi - access is via a card that you pay 10 euro for a week for, which is pretty good value, but the availability of the network is very very sparse. I could only get on the wifi in one place in the flat - and by one place i mean literally 1 sq foot worth of space. To get decent wifi i had to go outside and down the hill near the bar.
No on site shop as listed on hilltop village website, it's actually a local supermarket 2.5kms away
The welcome folder states than management can't be held responsible for valuables left in the aparyment, yet don't provide a safe either.

Bedrooms: all fine, lovely green wooden shutters on the windows. Storage was sufficient. Not many coathangers. (though it was listed as one double and two singles, it was actually 4 singles, and no double)
Large dining room (4 rather than 6 chairs, listed, but maybe the two in the bedrooms were meant as dining chairs...)
Good amount of hooks in the hall for hanging coats / bags etc.
Nice outside space, with enough space for 4 people to eat
Beautiful, clean, good sized pool, which when we there was generally quite quiet. People that came always said hello - really friendly, and the sun beds were all fine with some in the shade and some in the sun. Deep pool - 3m at the deepest to 1.5 at the shallow end and a children's area sectioned off, at 1m deep.
Agents lovely and helpful - Kally, Malika and Pierre of Claypso 123

The real shame, and over-riding thoughts about this place is that it could be AMAZING with really not much money spent on it at all. Some nice pictures / mirrors, a more modern (not necessarily expensive) kitchen, with a plug where you can plug a kettle AND a toaster in at the same time, rather than one at a time, would make a huge difference. Ditto the bathrooms - would benefit from modernisation. The furniture is obviously quite good, solid quality, so even just painting the existing furniture instead of the current dark brown wood would bring such a different feel to the property. The place just felt a bit downtrodden and not cared for.

It is only fair to note though that the complex manager did say the bathrooms and kitchen were going to be upgraded and that it is likely going to be a long term rental, so maybe they didn't feel worth doing this during the summer.

All that said, it IS a holiday rental, and people we spoke to who live there long-term did imply that the manager doesn't upgrade things because the place is often full, it's profitable, and people go for the views, and so he doesn't need to make any changes. Sad attitude, really.

I would stay here again, but would go knowing we could only cook 'hob' meals, (there is no BBQ outside, and that would be a great addition) and would use it literally for somewhere to sleep, and swim. For that, it is a great place, as the pool really is excellent. The place is very quiet - no road noise, and if you have young children the location is perfect - a short walk to the pool, and nice views for the adults to sit and relax on an evening

We didn't really use the bar / games room - we did go in once but we were the only people in there, which was a shame.

All in all it was fine, it could just be so much better, with a little TLC.
