I stayed here with my friend and two under 3years olds February 2013. We had an apartment with two double bedrooms, one with ensuite shower room and the other with a bathroom, small compact kitchnette, two ring hob, no oven, one pan,one frying pan. The rooms were clean and tidy maid service only on fourth day, stayed 1 week self catering. We did ask for more pans and towels which were provided.
Excellent location on bus route, buses frequently, roughly 15-20mins Arriva service run until 11.30pm, Sunday service good as well. You can pay 12 euro for a week and travel around the Island as many times as you wish on the bus. Easy access to the other locations, Buggiba, Vallenta, Meillha beach, Paradise Bay etc...
Enjoyed the stay, friendly people.
The hotel was in the process of refurbishing the rooms, the 5th floor we stayed on they had started refurbishment. I had a look at the refurbishing and the kitchens are a lot better improved than the one we were in.

Room Tip: No actual childrens activities onsite, but Popeye Village is only a busride away. There is a waterp...

Just returned from the Porto Azzuro ( 7th. January to the 5 th February 2013. Big big changes in the running of the hotel all for the better. Club Malta responsible for most of these changes. We were in a 2 bed apartment for our first 2 weeks having friends stay with us. Spacious and very comfortable then moved to Room 406 a comfortable studio.Towels changed every day bedding twice a week. Cleaning staff doing an excellent job very helpful. In reception there is a Guest Relations person Alexis Meylaq available each day between 10am and 11am for any queries or just a friendly chat. Lovely lady with a great welcoming smile perfect for the job. Her office is contactable also during her working day. The heating is on at all times which used to be a big problem for a lot of people last year as it was the air conditioning on all the time. The bar still maintained by Katherine who does a sterling job. This year she had outside entertainment on twice a week. Very good and brought the guests together on these social evenings.
Restaurant, breakfast very good provided lots of choices including yogurt and fruit this year. Disappointed they didn't provide an A la Carte menu for the evening meal. We would have liked a choice as we didn't always want a 3 course meal even though this was good value for money.
The waitress Maria was a star. She made sure we were well looked after and kept us entertained at all times a lovely lady.
Big improvements with the shop a total revamp and stocking most of our needs and Johnny always helpful.
The ladies on reception, Rachael, Hannah and Rosio ( not sure that spelling is correct) were good always there with a smile to help. Rosio had to deal with an elderly gentleman who had taken a fall sending him to hospital she was calm and professional at all times. Comforting thought being looked after in a crisis.
The gym which we didn't use also had had a make over for the better.
Over all it was a great budget holiday . Thanks to Club Malta a nice group of people and not at all pushy!! (For time share.) It is great to see staff enjoying there job no matter what roll they played.
We have booked again for next year covering January and February a perfect relaxing winter break. Love Malta and all it has to offer.

Stayed here for a couple of nights due to my apartment being renovated so i simply looked for somewhere cheap and clean and it was. The receptionist, Rosie was absolutely lovely and let me view the remaining rooms they had before i decided which one to book. No double rooms available but she requested, "big sheets" so the beds were pulled together with a big sheet across both. Unfortunately the flatscreen and fairly new looking tv did not work at all and with no maintenance on duty at the weekend i had to go without. Not really a problem as only there for 2 nights and was given option to change to another room but decided to stay put as the view was the better than watching tv anyday. Had a room on the 6th floor with a great view of Xemxija bay and of the countryside leading up to golden bay, just beautiful. The room furniture was a bit dated but the bathroom looked like it had been recently refurbished with very modern conveniences. Overall, the hotel needs a little upgrading but it looks like they are doing this slowly and some parts are veery new and modern. Only had breakfaast at hotel which was cooked breakfast aswell as continental which, for the price, i didnt expect. The lady in the restaurant was half canadian and half maltese and was very nice and welcoming and seemed to take on a role of tourist info too as many guests grilled her for info which she duly obliged. I didnt use hotel facilities, gym, jacuzzi or pool but overall i can recommend this place, especially if you get sea view. Its very clean, towels changed everyday, shop in the foyer if you need anything and bus stops literally outside the hotel so easy to get around the rest of the island. Its probably a bit quiet for younger couples looking for bars and clubs but if you want a restful stay in a beautiful part of malta at a great price then stay here.

Room Tip: Choose top floor with seaview if you can as the panoramic views are amazing. I was in 614 which was...

We booked a double/twin room just for a week (27th Jan 13 to 3rd Feb 13) and was unsure what to expect after reading some of the reviews before we booked and knowing what it cost for the week half board.
We needn't have worried. From the moment we arrived everyone was so helpful and friendly with a special thank you to Maria who made meal times a joy, she was so pleasant and couldn't do enough for everyone. Even when the restaurant was busy she always found time to make us feel looked after in every way, nothing was too much trouble. The meals were buffet style in the morning including fresh fruit and cooked breakfast and a choice from a set menu for dinner, the food was always varied, hot and plentiful.
We had a room with a balcony overlooking St Paul's bay on one side and amazing country views to the other side, the room was a good size with a kettle and cups etc, and a TV with movie channels in English, The shower worked perfect every time, the maids changed the towels daily and the beds twice during our week stay. The hotel is in a quiet spot with some lovely walks, but the bus stop is practically outside the hotel with buses every 15 mins if you don't care to walk too far or want to explore farther afield. The mini market within the hotel was useful and prices were reasonable. Overall this hotel is great value, thanks to all for a great week!

Lovely hotel although half was still being built but not at the time so no noise! Beautiful swimming pool! Lovely staff. In the beautiful location of st Pauls bay which has beautiful views! a 10 minute drive to a beautiful sandy beach, a 15 minute drive to the airport and st juliens and Valetta which are all great places to visit! Malta is a beautiful island i would highly recommend! Something for everyone, great party place of st juliens, great history and culture in valterra, great beach at golden bay, and lovely relaxing pool at the hotel! I stayed self catering so not sure what the hotel food was like, there are a few restaurants and shops close to the hotel and ate at a few of these which we lovely! Especially an indian on the bay front which looks out over a gorgous view of the bay at night time! Hotel room was ok, a bit basic but nice enough, clean and no pests and comfortable beds and a great big mirror which is necessary for a group of girls!!

We had a very happy stay in low season January 2013. We stayed in a self-catering studio which was basic but comfortable. It is fair to say that the facilities are getting quite tired (particularly the kitchen and bathroom) but considering we only paid £10 a night, this was a bargain! The linen was changed half way through the week, which was an unexpected bonus. From our balcony on the 6th floor, we overlooked the pool with a view of the sea in one direction and the countryside in the other.

We had breakfast in the restaurant a couple of times which was great value at €4 each - good selection of continental and English options and the delightful Maria was only too happy to arrange for you to have anything else you might like that wasn't out on the buffet (such as an omelette or fried eggs). In fact, All the staff were friendly and helpful.

There are plenty of facilities to make your stay enjoyable - indoor and outdoor pools, gym, jacuzzi etc. and you can arrange to have beauty treatments or massages at the hotel with a local therapist.

Hotel Porto Azzurro is set just a few metres back from the gorgeous St Paul's Bay with easy access to bus stops and roads to travel around the island. It's also conveniently placed for the ferry to Gozo if you have a car (approx 20 mins drive to the ferry terminal). Xemxija is a relatively quiet resort, but still has a few great restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk of the hotel. There is a fantastic walk up the hillside right behind the hotel, complete with a heritage trail around the remains of ancient buildings from the various stages of Malta's history.
