White Dolphin Holiday Complex
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Myself and my wife stayed at the white dolphin in June 2012 and found it to be pretty much perfect for our needs.

This apartment complex is based in the quiet village of Qawra on the North East coast of Malta, not far from the town of Bugibba. The apartment is just on the edge of Qawra, far enough away that its quiet but close enough that the restaurants, shops and coast are about a 5minute walk away.

We had an apartment on the 3rd floor that unfortunetly overlooked another hotel, but didnt matter to us as we would relax at the pool instead. Our apartment consided of a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen/dining room. The bathroom was a good size with a shower, no bath. The bedroom was a very good size with a double bed, desk, 2 bedside tables and wardrobe. The kitchen/diner was very big with a good sized table and chairs, sofa and a fittted out kitchen with plenty of storage space and decent size fridge and freezer box. The apartment is designed for 4 people so it was more than enough for the 2 of us. The bedroom and kitchen/diner have aircon units but these are optional extras (20 euro deposit plus 5 euro's a day). its well worth getting at least one of these units, especially during the hot nights. The only criticism i have with our apartment is the cleanliness of the floor, but feet always turned up black after walking on it, and i could walk outside and have cleaner feet

The hotel has a restaurant on site and i must say the food is gorgeous and the portion sizes are generous to say the least. 1 pizza is enough for 2 people at least. the food is also cheap and so is the beer and drinks :-) There is another restaurant just down the road further into Qawra called the 4 brothers that we both recommend as a good place to eat. a 2 course meal plus a bottle of wine for less than 40euro's, which included a fish dish.

The hotel also has pool and sunbathing area. Some people have complained that the pool is freezing and there's no sun. This is completelt false. Everyday we were there, the bathing area with basking in sunlight from 8am till about 3pm, after that, the corner closest to the road holds onto the sun until about half 4. The pool is cool but we found after spending the whole day outside in the high temperatures, coming back to the hotel and taking a dip in the pool was pure heaven. it properly cooled you down, much better than a shower, and then you could just lounge in the shade and relax. The air was still warm enough that you dried pretty quickly and didnt get cold.

The main advantage of the hotel is its location. not only is it in a quiet area, but its within a 15min walk of a main bus terminus in Bugibba that will get you pretty much anywhere on the island (turn left out of the hotel and follow the main road until you pass the Qawra palace hotel and a tour bus company stall/shop and turn left. Follow this road for about 5 minutes and the bus terminus will be on the right hand side just after a few shops). Most of these busses also pass infront of the hotel (nearest bus stop is just outside the Salsa bar) which run to Valletta (12, 31), to the airport via Mdina (X3) and the 221 to the Gozo ferry. The busses are very regular and are all owned by Avviva , all with aircon :-) you can buy a 7 day pass for 12 euros at any bus terminus and the airport, which we found to be very handy :-)

we would certainly stay in this hotel again :-)

Stated there between 18-22. June. Paid 102€ for 4-nights plus 12.50€ for half board at the restaurant when I arrived.

This was basically an extra holiday on short notice to scuba dive, so budget was low and demands on the hotel low as I was travelling on my own without the wife. Took a chance with this hotel and was pleasantly surprised.

The pool area was shaded and away from the sun, when it's 39°C this has it's advantages.

The rooms were plain, clean and had plenty of room. My apartment was facing the back court so the view was to be expected.

Restaurant was very good, service prompt and food was great, no complaints. House wine and drinks reasonably priced actually cheap.

Staff very helpful and friendly.

Basically you get more than you pay for so any small quirky problems I had aren't even worth mentioning. If I come diving to Malta again I'd be happy to stay there again.

My husband and I booked a weeks holiday at this resort, and were very surprised at the size of our accommodation. We had a ground floor studio flat that slept 2 persons. We have been to Malta on many occasions staying in many different establishments. This one exceeded our expectations!
Our accomodation was very spacious, with comfortable beds and clean and comfortable surroundings, also with a Large wet room. The restaurant on-site served exceedingly good food!
We highly recommend the Angus Rib-eye steak and the Spare ribs, they were Delicious!!
The swimming pool was just located outside the front of our accomodation, the water was never cold, just perfect to dip in and out when it got too Hot.

The only downside was if you required any of the following:- Air-conditioning, TV or use of an Iron, these all had to rented, at an extra cost with a refundable deposit. And the reception was only open between the hours of 10am - 2pm for you to rent them. They do have access to the internet if you should wish to send emails to family, friends, work etc... at a cost of 3.50 Euros for 1 hour. We purchased one, but were unable to use it the whole week we were there, because the internet connection was down. But we were refunded accordingly.

Ideal accommodation, would not be disappointed. Highly Recommend !!!!

Room Tip: For Spacious accommodation, ground floor apartment room (G01)

I will never recommend this place to anyone, the owner of the restuarant he was so rude to us because we ordered a Pizza and it was over cooked, he told us not to eat there again. We were eating outside in other different restuarants and food it was much better and much cheaper. Definetly I don't recommend the White Dolfhine restaurant called il- Garra.

Very impressed with the complex. Excellent value for the monry.Good apartments clean and reasonable size.
Good location, about 5 minutes walk to the bars and restaurants on the front. 10 minutes walk up into Bugibba.
Staff very friendly and helpful, and good restaurant, fully booked on the Saturday night when we were there.
Quite a narrow complex so limited time for sunbathing by the pool, sun there in the morning.
No real beach nearby.

We were 2 students looking for a budget holiday in Malta and we came across White Dolphin.
It's a great little hotel, the self catering apartments have everything you'll need (kettle, toaster, cutlery, knives etc etc). The bathroom is spacious and the location is ideal as there is a bus stop only 5 minutes away for bus routes to the Gozo ferry and Valletta.

Recommend highly for budget travellers, it has everything you need for a nice holiday.

We went to Malta on a budget, so wasn't expecting much from the accommodation, but went with this one as the reviews were fairly good. It had a nice pool area and the self catering room we had was clean and basic. We did have a meal one night in the restaurant downstairs, but we were not impressed. I ordered a Mojito, but it was more like a glass of mouthwash, so sent it back and from them on stuck to the local chisk! We also shared a pizza but again, not great as it was extremely salty and tasted a bit stale. Overall, accommodation was fine, but I would advise to eat elsewhere.
