you get what you pay for, and we paid less than 25$ per night as a couple including breakfast, so it's not surprising that the hotel is maybe a little older, in need of some renovation. We are a married couple and we were given a room with three single beds. Not the end of the world. The rooms were pretty bare, but they had an oil heater witch was SO ESSENTIAL for me to enjoy Malta. We really appreciated that heater. (It's not that warm here in April!) The maid did a fine job, the bathrooms were clean and towels were provided every other day or so. Funnily, if you close the bathroom door at night there is less noise from the building getting in. There is a restaurant that serves buffet style dinner and you can purchase this in a package, so if you buy 6 meals it works out to a savings of 2 euros per meal or something. The food is ok, not great. If you do eat there, GET RECEIPTS when you pay for your meals or drinks at the time of the meal. As Gareth S mentioned ---- We paid for a bottle of wine, didn't get a receipt and were forced to pay for it AGAIN before we were allowed to check out. If we had known where to eat in the area / had a car, we probably would have eaten out. By the end of the trip we had found a few decent and affordable restaurants along the water. The hop on hop off tour bus picks up outside this hotel which is a big plus. The hotel has a lovely looking pool area that we did not get to enjoy as the weather wasn;t quite there yet, but also because there is SO MUCH TO SEE IN MALTA!!!

Room Tip: Our room faced the street on the third floor. It was very very loud all night long. we didn't...

Just had a week at the San Pawl with family. What a bargain - only paid £12 pppn Half Board. You get what you pay for.Rooms very basic but clean - contrary to other comments. Towels seem very sparce - may be the fact the hotel was due to close for the refit ?? However a call to reception remedied this very quickly, and they were always very obliging in sorting out any issues .

Breakfast was quite adequate - good for Continental - Yes cheap food but fresh bread was good - real butter what a bonus - and there was a reasonable selection so you did not go hungry. Evening meal was another story - would not bother in future if i returned. All the main food - fish/meat etc was drowned in sauce. But have to say for what we paid you would get something. My main concern with the restaurant was the very rude Restaurant Manager - he was built like a sumo wrestler and had the manners of one!.
My only other negative is the hotel seems to be giving a lot of business to colleges as during our stay it was back to back with groups of students. - Huge issues in the restaurant as they have no manners - push people out of the way and clear the servery of food - often the food would run out in the evening. This was not controlled at all by restaurant Manager .

Overall it was value for money and would probably go back when it re opens in the Spring as the prices are rediculously cheap again through LATEROOMS.COM.

Room Tip: Standard rooms have a very small Balcony - upgrade to Superior if the option is there.

This hotel was pleasant enough, but badly in need of its upcoming re-furb !! The rooms were very dated and very basic. The food wasn't great, but certainly wasn't the worst I've ever had...I suppose there wasn't enough choice if I'm honest. The hotel itself is set in an ideal location just a few minutes stroll to the beautiful promenade. Getting around malta was a doddle..just buy an all day bus pass for 2.60(Euro) and use it as many times as you want. Anyway, apparently it's having a re-vamp this winter which means I would use it again once it was done. At the end of the day we paid very little for a lovely warm break. It had a good pool area with a fair size pool. This could be a very nice place to stay, so I hope it goes well.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view.

In our Veiw for the price we paid £550 for the 2 of us it was good value. Okay there wasn t a huge choice of food but what was there was good. The breakfasts were very good the main meals were served out by the staff (not a lot of meat or fish lol) our room was cleaned and we had plenty of towels. On arrival we paid for a safe 17 50 eu 4 the week after begging 4 two days the manager did arrive to set the safe for us!! Just one observation to u all, get a reciept for any drinks you purchased in the resturant. They have a nasty habbit of producing you with a bill at the end of your holiday even though you ve already paid .This happened 2 us and other guests dont sign the bill we did, you are signing to have it charged even though u ve paid

Fortunately we had only booked for convenience an overnight stay. However you do pay for what you get and it was extremely cheap. The breakfast was excellent but the room was pretty awful. It smelt of stale rubbish. There were no towels in the room and we had to go to the man at reception who looked surprised and shoved a couple of towels at us. I didn't fancy a shower which was over the bath as I opened the window in the morning of the bathroom and realised why the room smelt. The hotel had a nice swimming complex and bar.

We have just arrived back from a week half board.
We were checked in early as we arrived at 12.30 pm. We had room 328 and although it was facing the street ( could hear dustcart at 5.30 am most mornings ) we were pleased with our room.
Yes the rooms could be updated but for what we paid (less than £500 for us both) we were pleased especially after reading recent reviews!!!!!
Our room was basic but clean and tidy, clean towels everyday, yes the sheets weren't changed but I only change my sheets once a week at home but I'm sure if you asked they would have been changed. Yes beds did creak but that is because bases are sheets of wood, mattress very comfy.
The food was good not much choice for veggies, a little repetitive as the desserts were the same, not much fruit apart from oranges everyday but plenty of choice.th e bread and rolls were delicious ( even my husband enjoyed it and he is skilled baker !!!!!)plenty enough tables as you are given a time to eat depending on floor you are on.
Down side is that drinks are pricey (soft drinks are £1.60 for small glass/can bottle of bud £2. Euros) soft drinks shouldn't be almost same price as alcohol !!
Entertainment needs improving as all acts sings the same songs but on different days!!
The gym is small and basic but better than nothing.
The indoor pool was freezing and jacuzzi was not working but to be fair to them a sign was up saying that they were having problems with heating pool.
Outside pool freezing even baby pool but one in it was ok.
All the staff were pleasant and work very hard !!!! There was a young girl called Sabrina who never seem to go home as many of her colleagues!!
Malta itself I would agree with the review that it is like marmite.
If you have booked here and worried please don't be judge it for yourselves.
Overall we have stayed at a lot worst for much more money .

Room Tip: Ask for pool side room as quieter in mornings but noisier at night because of entertainment.

o.k so this was our first time in malta .....having come to visit freinds who moved out here some years earlier......first impressions of the hotel were very good.the receptionist was freindly enough.so a good start...the room was very clean and was situated facing the street...which did'nt bother us to much......there was'nt any entertainment as such...but hey!i wanted a nice relaxing holiday without screaming kids or young 18-30 type holiday makers.the meals were good...although we did eat out often with the freinds we went over to see........round the pool was a quite relaxed atmosphere ....and monday nights were kareoke nights........across the road from the hotel is JESTERS BAR ...manuel the owner was warm and welcoming (also a bit of a joker ...so beware).....if your planning on eating out i'd highly recommend VENUS RETURAUANT in bugibba square the food is of the very best quality and the prices reflect this ..however you will have to book in advance as this is a very popular resturraunt. all in all well worth the money ...already looking at booking for next year .........as they say about malta ...it's the marmite island!...you'll either love it or hate it ......"anyone for marmite"....chris curwood ....nottingham england
