“Lovely hotel nice cafe bar”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

Hotel very nice, reception area spacious. Room was very clean with plenty wardrobe space. Bathroom was a bit on the small side. Clean towels every day. View not so good we looked onto the courtyard. Pay a bit extra the sea view is lovely. The food was average but you wont go hungry. The café bar which is part of the hotel was very nice. Food and drink very cheap with very friendly staff. Most of the guests in the hotel was older so if you want a lively time this is not the place for you.

Room Tip: Pick a room with sea view.

I recommend all my friends to stay in this hotel as it is in a first-class position close to the sea and all amenities and also boasts a beautiful cafe at the side which sells the best coffee and most delicious cakes you can get in Malta as well as lovely toasted sandwiches, very competitively priced. I have been there this morning to meet two friends staying there for one month and we have partaken of these delicacies and been waited on by the lovely cheerful Louise who works tirelessly making sure all customers have everything they need. The accommodation is very nice here too and the rooms overlooking the sea are first rate in every way. My friends tell me the food in the Dining Room is excellent too, what more could you want and yes, we even get more sun than most other places in the med.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra for a sea view, well worth it.

Hotel is situated on the main road in and out of qawra but road noise is strangely absent. Facilities are ok like indoor pool, jacuzzi, pool, evening entertainment. The room was a little tired and in need of a refurb, but there is ongoing painting and building work being done in the 5th floor as I write this. Area is very quiet so if you are looking for lively pubs or night clubs forget it. Busses run from the bus station 5 mins walk away all over the island at a cost of €6.50 for 7 days. Weather could have been better but all in all not bad.

On arrival at this hotel first impressions were friendly, clean and spacious this was the reception are. Our room was ready and the lifts easily accessible. Our room was very clean, spacious plenty of wardrobe space, tv with bbc and sky news, 3 free film channels, a very quick boiling kettle, 2 mugs supply your own tea etc. towels changed as often as we wanted, bedding renewed regular. Telephone but no outside line and the kiosks in hotel expensive. Wifi was not free. A very good choice of food at all sittings and plenty of it. Excellent entertainment every night and during the first two months of the year John and Audrey organise dance classes, bowls and other activities with bingo and whist drives beginning 7.30pm. An excellent Cafe Royale with superb desserts and snacks is part of the hotel and very good service and friendly staff. We thought the indoor pool too small and shallow but the outside pool area very spacious and a lovely position. We did not try the spa but other guests we spoke to were delighted with the treatments and facilities. We would definitely return. Bus fares were 1.60 euro day return hop on and off in Malta but Gozo you pay separate. The Malta Festival takes place 5 days before lent and this is definitely worth going to see. Another great find was the Cappaccio Cafe in St Paul's Bay very friendly and excellent snacks desserts tea and coffee at a very reasonable price you will find this opposite the Guilleru Hotel.

We’ve stayed in the Seashells next door before which is a lot better than the Qawra Palace. The Qawra Palace isn’t a bad hotel, but I wouldn’t really go any further than to say it’s ok.

There are the drawbacks to staying in Qawra in that it seems more shabby than other resorts like Sliema and St Julians, and also that it’s full of older people. Now my husband and I are both in our 30’s, and while we stayed in Qawra a couple of years ago at the Seashells, these two things didn’t bother us a bit. Probably because we were in a nicer hotel, and also the weather was scorching. But this time we just thought it would probably have been better for us to stay at a different resort.

The Qawra Palace staff all seemed friendly, the room was adequate, actually quite spacious. It quite bugs me though that if you want a sea view you have to pay extra. If you don’t pay extra your view is basically like a communist prison type view of the courtyard. However, the hotel is clean, the maids came in every day and tidied the room and changed the towels etc.

We were just on a b&b basis. The breakfast was ok but that was it. Usual array of cooked stuff and cold stuff, but it was a bit difficult to find a healthy option. The fruit was very limited and what there was didn’t look appetising. There are some very good restaurants actually in the area if you look for them; especially the Overflow round the corner.

If you are an older person looking for a cheap getaway then the Qawra Palace is probably a great option for you. There seemed to be a real friendly feeling in the hotel. However, any younger and I’d advise either stay at a different resort, or if you are attracted to the cheaper prices in Qawra (like we were!) go next door to the Seashells.

Stayed at this Hotel for 4 nights recently. It is well situated on the sea front. The reception/foyer area is nice and spacious. The hotels cafe is excellent, as is the food served in it, and the prices.

Where the hotel fails is in its rooms. The hotel has 8 floors. I stayed on the 4 th floor. The room was spacious but had 2 bad faults. The bathroom was abysmal,it was that small that you had to stand beside the toilet to enable you to shut the door. The lighting in the room was also abysmal
insofar reading, using the lighting was a real challenge to the eyes.. On the plus side there was instantaneous hot water throughout the day. The food in the restaurant was very average one could say without contradiction it was not Cordon Bleu. The pool (outside) was very good, and lots of room for sunbathing. The staff were pleasant. Would I recommend this hotel. If you have no other choice of hotel, yes

Room Tip: My room was on the side of the hotel. Try to get a sea facing room. It costs an extra 16 Euros per...

Booking a sea view room is well worth the extra charge. Breakfast a bit repetitive but dinner gave plenty of choice. Brochure state tea and coffee making facilities but no tea, coffee or milk provided. Not much choice of draft beers and drinks are a bit expensive. Could get a carafe of red or white house wine for €3. They are refurbishing some of the rooms and could be a bit noisy. Shops are just round the corner where you can get papers drinks and food etc. Can get a sandwich Ham or Cheese for €1.50 at outside bar. Not far from the bus station and centre of Bugibba .

Room Tip: Get a weekly bus ticket for €6.50 and you can travel anywhere on this ticket around Malta..
