I have just returned from the Qawra palace Hotel. I booked for a fortnight.

Firstly the good.... I paid £651 for the 2 weeks half board for just myself which was the best deal I could get... this did not include an excessive single person supplement as I know a couple who booked the same holiday at the same time and paid £545 per person.

The hotel is kept in general very clean ... there were always cleaners mopping floors, brasso'ing, doing windows and the staff were always friendly. The room cleaners kept the rooms very clean

The food was always hot and MOST of the staff at meal times were friendly and pleasant....Ester who worked at my section every other day was great and recognised when i didnt turn up for breakfat one day when I'd overslept!

My rep... Pam Fears was the best thing since sliced bread and deserves a medal for looking after some 'special' holiday makers that included getting one of them some clean clothes as they had run out of their own!! She was friendly, helpful and honest and was always at her desk when she was supposed to be.

Okay ... now the not so good....

1) the courtyard from your balcony... as stated in an another review .. the view from the some of the rooms is horrible as you are very close to your neighbours and you have no privacy on the balcony... as stated in another review try and upgrade to a sea view .. i tried but the hotel was full.

2) the hotel is used by an english school organisation and so expect more than the normal amount of kids.... they are not about in the day but be prepared for running up and down the corridors in the evening and for them to be shouting to each other accross the balcaony's!!

3) As usual towels are put on sun beds very early in the am!!! not just by the 'older' generation but by everyone!! The pool is nice but too small for a hotel of what could be up 2 nearly 800 people. It is therefore noisy as well and there are not like other places i've been some quiet places form the excited kids.

4) My bathroom was very small and the bath had quite a bit of mould in the corners - it was mould that required more attention then the room cleaners could manage.

5) Whilst the food was hot .. the choice was more limited to other hotels Ive been to.. It always had a pasta, fish & meat choice but some of it was a bit like a canteen as you cannot help yourself to some things ... it is put on the plate by the chefs.... i had a feeling on some occasions that they were trying to 'stretch' some meals out as it seemed they were goin to run short.

The weather in Malta was very hot ... parhaps too hot as I found I could't sunbathe for long (Ive never struggled before) ... so take plenty of suncream if you go at the same time of year ... some people burnt to a crisp despite warnings from the rep.

We have just returned from 5 nights B&B at the Qawra Palace Hotel. We originally booked to stay at the Dolmen Resort Hotel but were told 2 days before departure that they were overbooked and our holiday company managed to book us in at the Qawra Palace.

The Qawra Palace is officially a 4 star hotel and our initial thoughts when we arrived were that it was more like a 3 star. However, we did visit a number of other hotels during our stay and would say that the facilities on offer do justify the 4 star rating, albeit perhaps not quite as well as some others. Our room was clean and a decent size although the bathroom was tiny with only enough space for one person at once. There were signs that a little re-decoration wouldn't go a miss with flaking paint and mildew evident. Our room faced into the centre of the hotel, which meant we had no sea view. However, as the hotel is located on the seafront next to a busy road we were happy for the peaceful location of our room as a sea view room would definitely have suffered from both road noise and the evening entertainment put on by the hotel just across the road.

Breakfast was a buffet choice of 5 cereals, egg, bacon, sausage, beans, tomatoes, juices, various bread, cheese and ham. Coffee was help yourself from the machines and particularly good. The salt water pool is located on the other side of the road to the hotel and is accessed by taking a lift to the ground floor then walking underneath the road. This may sound odd but doesn't seem it when you see it. The indoor pool was not open.

Staff were all generally friendly and attentive and willing to help out when asked. The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from the Qawra bus terminus and the bus service in Malta is excellent if rather hot. (Very few buses have air conditioning). We used the buses extensively including getting from the airport (No. 8 from airport to Valletta then No. 58 from Valletta to Qawra) and found it a great way to explore Malta.

Overall the hotel has a great location and offers reasonable facilities for a 4 star.

Me, hubby and 3 year old son was there not long ago, the hotel is dirty beds are o squeeky, soft and dated.
Some of the stuff are rude, nothing for kids at all.....

Very disapointed, beach is around 10 mins walk on a steep hill, ohhhh not to mention the whole island just surrounded by rocks not sand.

So please if your looking to go here with your kids, children aged 16 under don't go as it's really boring.

on the other hand i must say the island nice but it's more for anyone looking just to relax i.e retired or older people.

The food was nice the first two days, then it got boring as it was repeated... makes me sick thinking about it.

Well gud luck! enjoy if you wish to go.

hi, we are a young couple 27 and 35 years old and we came on this site before staying at qawra palace july 08, and was concerned about all the bad reports! well this was soooo not true! people need to learn to understand and respect other cultures and how star ratings may vary from country to country, for me and my partner this hotel was clean, the food was excellent, the entertainment was varied for kids and adults, but if not to your liking more bars and clubs were a short walk away! the pool was cleaned every night, the rooms every day, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the cafe royal had fantastic tea and snacks and was reasonable in price, the £2 euro shop down the road sold all we needed. all trips and excursions were on your door step and all you needed so you would not have to leave the hotel, as to be expected in the summer the indoor pool and jacuzzi were closed. if you want to make tea or coffee in your room take a travel kettle or hire from the hotel, this holiday resort was relaxing and met all basic requirements for a stay in Malta, we would highly recommend this hotel to couples and family's, who want a relaxing holiday, but would suggest if you are a young couple looking for a party party atmosphere go to ibza! muppets! hope if you visit here you enjoy your holiday as much as we did!

The Qawra Palace Hotel, is NOT as bad as some of these reviews say, I read them before I went and was unsure what to expect. The hotel is not 4 star, but is clean, rooms are fine, the bathrooms are bit small, but you don't spend your holiday in there! We had a room without sea view, overlooking courtyard, this turned out to be a blessing as the sun didn't shine in the room all day and get too hot. The rooms are air conditioned. Pools are more suited to older children as they are sea water filled. Chlorinated Indoor pool and jacuzzi's are closed in summer as too many children have messed up pools before, shame as only respite for sunburnt people!! Beware it gets very hot was 37c every day we were there and no cloud. Malta is a lovely country, bit like Cyprus, the people are very polite and friendly and speak English.. We would recommend Malta highly, no hesitation..At this point we would like to add that we went with Thomas Cook/Sunset and would mention that their reps Jo and Gemma were absolutely brilliant, so friendly and approachable and a pleasure to meet, we will remember them fondly..
