Hubby and I have just returned our first trip to Qawra Palace. Although our room was not ready it was at 2 as promised. The room and bathroom was clean and tidy . The dinning experience was good . Good food and service. The only two down sides to this hotel is the lifts are a bit if a nightmare and the hotel is looking tired. But would return no question

Room Tip: Pay the extra and have a sea view room

This was our first holiday to Malta, we arrived at the Qawra Palace at about 12.00 and our room wasn't ready but reception was welcoming and said that room would be ready in about 1 hour so went for lunch at the coffee shop just opposite reception this was more than a coffee shop with a good lunchtime menu and reasonable prices. In the hour promised our room was available and was quite spacious, clean and comfortable. Good facilities TV, hairdryer, tea making facilites although a charge was made for tea, coffee milk etc approx 10 euros for a weeks supply, plenty to last the week. Bathroom was a little small but clean although towels could have been better. Food was buffet style plenty of choice at both breakfast and dinner quality could have been better. The dining room was often crowded and not enough staff to cope this resulted in waiting for tables which were sometimes not cleared of dirty dishes. I wish hotels would realise that not enough staff results in poor service. We were told that we could change dinner in dining room on one night and eat in the Hotels Pizzaria which we did and were given a limited menu with only small choice of main meals and one choice of sweet and told when were asked for a carafe of wine this was not available for people on half board, very strange as were paying for it. But we did enjoy this evening anyway and the setting is lovely overlooking the sea. The Pool area was great plenty of sunbeds and a lovely large pool. This was the venue also everynight for the entertainment which was quite varied with a different act every night. The entertainment finished at 11.30 to 12.00 and although our room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the road and pool area we did not find this a problem. Just opposite the hotel is a bus stop for the local buses well worth using as they are cheap and frequent although very busy and you may have to stand for your journey. Hotel location is good, on the seafront and you can walk to Bugibba along the promenade about 20 - 30 minutes away
The car musuem in Qawra is well worth a visit and not far from the hotel. We enjoyed our stay at The Qawra Palace and found it good value for money.

Room Tip: Book a front seaview room these are larger with a good size balcony, and possibly 3rd or 4th floor or...

This was our third visit to this hotel and we found it every bit as good as in the past.

We arrived at 11.00 am expecting not to be able to have our room at that time as check in is not until 2.00 pm so we were prepared and had taken swimwear and a towel in our hand luggage so were sitting by the pool at 11.30 am. We had also expected not to be able to use the all inclusive facilities until we got our room so were pleased to find we could use them straight away so could get a drink and lunch.

The food was as good as in the past - there was always plenty of choice and no dishes were repeated during the week. There was always a fish dish, two meat dishes, pasta and salad for evening meal and similar at lunchtime though there was only one meat dish instead of two. There was no restriction on the amount you could eat and if you wanted to go back for more no one stopped you.

You are told where to sit in the dining room but this is on the room registration card so shouldn't cause a problem. We have never heard any shouting or raised voices when people are asked to sit in the correct area instead of where they want - they are just asked politely to move to the right area.

The lifts were more reliable this year - I only recall there being one breakdown. Yes, we did have to wait quite a while sometimes but we're on holiday so there's no rush. There's always the stairs.

The rooms now have tea-making facilities though you do still have to buy the tea, etc, but this does stop people taking it just because it's there.

The pool was no longer locked until 8.30 am which did away with the stampede for sun loungers and the queue past the dining room and up the stairs. It did mean that people got up early and reserved the sun loungers from about 6.30 am onwards but if you need shade and are happy to get up early I don't see that's a problem. There were still plenty of loungers available later for those that didn't get up early.

We have never had any problems with rudeness from staff working on the theory treat them politely and they'll be polite back.

Maybe some people expect more for their money but we feel we get what we pay for. Maybe the hotel isn't the British standard of four star but we're not paying the same price as for a British four star. The hotel meets our needs and we're already planning to go back next year.

Room Tip: Book a seaview room - it's worth the extra

My first time to malta, and I've enjoyed every moment of it, apart from being in this poor excuse of a 4 star hotel. Me and my partner went all inclusive for a 7 night stay with sea view, but the only thing that makes it worth while is the location and the sea view. The staff are rude and very unfriendly, the drinks are poor, you don't get much more being all inclusive, cocktails are not included and are €5.80, where we just bought and non alcoholic version for €2.80 and got some vodka shots from the inclusive bar then added them to our drinks, really don't understand why they can't offer a discount to inclusive members?!??!? If you want a jd and coke then its €3.20 for a single, where just up the road in a local bar you can get a double for €2. The food is fair, but layout is bad as people are always bumping into each other, foods sometimes cold, and bacons full of gristle. If you want a remote for your tv it's €10, bathrooms all very small and unhygienic. Wifi is absolutely shocking! And which you have to pay extra for!! Rooms are also out dated and the general condition of the hotel is bad, could seriously do with a make over. The lifts are a joke and constantly out of order, the games room is a old pool table, a air hockey table with missing parts and a broken pin ball machine. The pizzeria across the road (part of the hotel) is terrible, greasy, burnt and the bases are hard enough to finish building your garden shed with. I would love to return the malta but I will not ever stay in this hotel again, nor will I recommend it to anyone!!!!!!

We often visit Malta and thought we would try the Qawra Palace - we paid the extra to have a sea view room - this was fine - plenty of space, no problem. The food wasn't great - we went half board but most evenings we would go anywhere apart from the restaurant at the hotel.
Breakfast was ok, very dangerous set up - with people walking everywhere and with having to collect your tea and coffee thought this was a bit of a hazard. (The beverages in the restaurant were awful) usually ventured to the coffee shop - very interesting to see the difference in service between the restaurant and coffee shop - miles apart. Pool area was never clean enough - needed more than a brush and water to clean in the evenings - should be using power appliances.
Anyone reading this I would defiantly recommend you have a sea room as the other rooms have an awful view and are extremely dark and grim.
The whole hotel could do with a make over - internet access was dreadful too.
