“Good Hotel”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

A very good hotel in an excellent location. Room good I did not pay the extra for a sea view room but the rooms with sea view looked very good. Staff very helpful and friendly. 4 good pools, 2 on the beach side and 2 on the hotel side. Nice bar with some entertainment at night. I would have given this hotel 5 stars if they had free wifi and free safe.

We have recently returned from 7 nights stay at the Dolmen where we had an excellent time. The only slight reservation was the room we were allocated on arrival was not quite what we expected. We had booked a superior room and had asked for all the normal wants - quiet room, sea view, balcony, double bed etc and our room 630 seemed to have all of these if it was a little on the small side.
However we soon found out that above us on the roof was either a noisy air con unit or some other sort of device as the humming noise give n out during the night was too loud to enable a good nights sleep. The next morning we reported this to reception who moved us to 634 which ticked all the boxes and was much larger.
The food at he hotel is excellent and plentiful, and the waistline expansion soon took place.
All the hotel staff we encountered were very courteous and helpful at all times. Nothing seemed too much trouble for them.
Overall an excellent stay and one we would be happy to recommend to others.

Room Tip: On the sixth floor do not occupy rooms 629/30/31 as the air con noise is too loud

We came on the 21st may and stayed for 3 weeks.
20 of us in total (small families) stayed. My husband, son and I were in a superior room for one night and a suite for the rest of our stay (room 630).

I have been to malta 23 times before and knew this would be the perfect location for our wedding. We married at the palazzo in naxxar and had our reception at rays lido little armier (both places I would recommend visiting)

I don't know where to start... We decided to pay a little extra than we normally do in malta and stay at the dolmen. I'm so pleased we did. 99% of the staff were amazing. Silvan at the pool bar (which unfortunately only opened in our final week when the rest of our party had left) was great! He was very friendly and chatty. Nadia at reception was so efficient and approachable! She knew every room our guests were staying in off the top of our head! And Oliver in the restaurant was the sweetest little man! The only member of staff who I made a complaint about was Abigail but that's been dealt with now I hope.

The hotel is great! The facilities are above and beyond. The batabulan restaurant overlooking the sea was beautiful and we are there at sunset several times as you had a discount if you were half board. We were half board PLUS (booked through Thomas cook) and this seemed to confuse all of the staff at first. Make it clear to your rep if you're confused about board basis.

The food was sometimes out of this world.. After 3 weeks it was a bit drab but anywhere would be if you are there every day for 21 days!

I am very excited to go back to malta as soon as I can and I'm 100% sure that the dolmen is where I will be staying. Most of our party feel the same I'm sure. The dolmen now has some very loyal customers with our families and will be booking again soon.

Thank you for making our wedding and honeymoon so special and perfect in every way!

We have just returned from our annual family holiday to Malta. I have to say the Dolmen was a lovely hotel with comfortable rooms finished to a high standard. The location of the hotel was ideal with the seafront on the door step and the bus station at the end of the road.

Being a Head Chef in England the highlight to me was the food. I have to say that the breakfast was the best I have experienced abroad including 5 star resorts we have stayed in. The buffet was fresh and plentiful well stocked and make sure you tuck into the beautiful breads. The evening meals were equally as impressive. The variety was overwhelming and I did not have any meal that I did not really enjoy. The only thing I will say is be prepared to go up a waist size when you come back.
The swimming pools were lovely and we also made use of the spa which gives an excellent service.

Overall faultless!!!!!!!!!!!

We are just back from this hotel, and I have to say we had an excellent time. The hotel was great, very clean, staff friendly and great food choice. The hotel is in an excellent location and the staff where so pleasant. We where there for 7 nights and my only regret was that we did not stay longer.

Our room was modern, clean, with clean towels each day. The pool area was very relaxing and you were never stuck to find a sun lounger.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, and hopefully we will return very soon.

A lovely hotel superbly situated by St Pauls Bay. the best rooms are on the 6th floor called Superior Rooms but be careful - the description ' Superior ' seems to cover for variable amounts of furniture in the room. This year we were given Room 611 and told it was a superior room but it was more like transit room - only the bed to sit on. It was only when I pointed out we had stayed at Dolman on 2 previous occasions and had had superior rooms with 2 arm chairs, 2 coffee tables, a desk and a chair and a settee - (Room 611 had none of these ) that reception did a little juggling and we got a proper superior room the next day for the rest of the two weeks. However we were left with a sense of ' only a couple of old fogies - they wont know different ' - which I thought was poor especially as we had booked the holiday the October before.

Food varied from OK to excellent depending upon what you had but I felt sorry for the restaurant staff who were under a lot of pressure especially when the hotel had large groups of people in for conferences etc - they were almost running to clear tables for more incomers.

However, the memory of sitting on the balcony of room 624, overlooking the bay with sun warming my elderly bones is a good one

Room Tip: I dont think travellers get a chance to choose a room - I asked for room 633 when I booked and look...
