We stayed at the Hotel in April, 2013 for a weekend break.

The room was good, nice layout, second to none view of St,. Pauls Islands.

Just some things which we noticed:

1. TV: very minimal stations to view
2. No Bottle Openers in Room
3. Window in Bathroom which led to a shaft with Air Conditioning Ducting... quite noisy!
4. Breakfast was good.
5. Indoor Pool - Really small!

Apart from that it was a great experience, with a good value for money.

The excellent hotel is located right by the sea, with a private beach and cozy indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
Good and varied breakfast with fresh fruits and salads.

It features the ruins of a very ancient temple in its courtyard.
Very beautiful view towards St, Paul Bay.
The environments are quite sedate. there are some nice restaurants nearby on the beach.

The bus station located is just beside, with direct links to La Valletta, M'dina and the Gozo ferry.
The commute to La Valletta takes 45-60 minutes.

Room Tip: View to sea

having been awarded a trial week before joining Exclusive Club Malta we were staying in
a self catering appartement overlooking the bay and both pools. The appartement itself was stunning with jacuzzi in the bedroom
and a well equipt kitchen and plenty of seating areas, one of which overlooks the bay where one can sit when too cold
to sit out on the very large balcony.
I have bad arthritis and am a very bad walker and our appartement was right the other end of the hotel so a big struggle but here my tip if
you are on the other side of reception........go out door down to pool and walk over to the cafe Delos and from there you can get to reception
area and exit. Next tip follow signs for the Casino and use the lift down to the Casino then use doors out onto the promenade and
you are on the flat and near restaurants and not far from the square which even I managed to walk to where there are mant cafes and shops, even a 2 euros shop.
The whole hotel is disabled friendly with ramps and handrails everywhere and of course lifts.
Have to make a special mention of the fantastic restaurant just minutes away from the Dolmen and that is
Watercolours with owner Teresa and fantastic friendly waiter Manuel. Food is class and the views over the bay are stunning, love sitting
out in the fresh air having a meal and a glass of wine.
For your transport from the airport I can recommend using Resorthopper.com. We have used it with the minibuses which was very good at 9 euros return per person but due to my inability to step up into the buses due to my arthritis we chose private transfer this time. It was amazing....a limosine driven by a friendly and attentive driver and costing 19euros per person. My husband has said he will only be booking
private transfer from now on.

Room Tip: ask to overlook pools or the bay

Our rooms at the Dolmen Resort were not expensive, and thus we were surprised about the excellent equipment, the courteous and competent service, the well-stocked breakfast buffet etc. of the hotel. We stayed one week at the end of march, did a lot of excursions by ourselves using the public busses from the near terminal and had a wonderful time on Malta.

Room Tip: The rooms with sea view are a bit more expensive but are absolutely worth the little extra charge.

We stayed at the Dolmen for a week in April. Paid extra for a sea view and asked for a room on an upper floor - and were allocated a room on the 6th (top) floor with a fantastic view over St Paul's Bay and a larger-than-expected balcony, Only minor niggle was a cooling unit on the roof right above us which hummed all the time, didn't bother me at all but my wife noticed it at night a couple of times - and it could be heard outside. You might want to avoid 629 and a couple of rooms either side if that would give you an issue. The staff we spoke to were very pleasant.

The room was spotless, bed comfortable and was well maintained by Diane. Bathroom was a decent size, shower wasn't over-powerful being on the top floor but did its job... The tea and coffee-making facilities were much appreciated after a long day out. I had to run the tap early in the week as the water had a brown tinge and tasted a bit odd to start with, after then it was fine. I reported a loose shower head fixing to the very pleasant receptionist on the way out one morning, it was replaced with a complete new shower by the time we got back.

We opted for half board and weren't disappointed. We found the restaurant provided a plentiful selection of tasty food for both breakfast and dinner and I really enjoyed every meal. The hotel was busy and some small queues formed once or twice, not a big issue really... One thing management could perhaps look to sort out were the chefs who stood chatting in groups in the walkways at times, ignoring the guests were trying to get past, which wasn't great...! I really liked the lively atmosphere in the restaurant and the tables we chose to sit at had a lovely view over the bay.

We didn't use any of the hotel's other facilities so can't comment on those. As other guests have said the hotel is well placed for a walk along the front into Bugibba - or maybe into Qwara if you are feeling energetic. Due to the bus station being so handy I decided not to hire a car this time and we traveled everywhere on the bus, me with my nose pressed against the window looking at the views, which made a nice change... The bus service is good and covers almost everywhere, the day- or week-ticket is ideal as you can get on and off and change routes wherever you want, although on the popular routes they can get rather full at times and they certainly don't hang about getting from A to B.

Based on our experience at the Dolmen we had an excellent holiday and we would definitely stay here again if we returned to the area, and we recommend the hotel on that basis.

Room Tip: Pay that little extra for a room with a sea view and ask for an upper floor - well worth it. Room 6...

We have recently stayed in this hotel for seven days with my partner and thoroughly enjoyed our stay the hotel rooms was lovely very big and spacious and cleaned everyday would definitely recommend that the little extra is paid for the sea view as it is well worth it. We stayed bed and breakfast which was very enjoyable especially as I am a fussy eater there is something for everyone. I would also recommend the use of the spa facilities as I had a top to bottom facial and full body massage which was a perfect start to my holiday. In the evenings there is plenty of things to do weather it be in the bar for a few drinks which is supported by evening entertainment or if u fancy a little more there is also a casino which is very good fun which me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed take your passport first for I'd otherwise it's a trip bk to the hotel room. Overall I would defo recommend and would return again as I couldn't fault it.

Room Tip: We were room 207 couldn't fault it defo would recommend sea view

This was our third stay at The Dolmen and I'm sure will not be our last. We booked our holiday through Chevron and as in previous stays the hotel met our request for a higher floor room. Our room this time was on the fifth floor (549) with a fantastic view over the pools and out to the bay....beautiful sunsets. The maid service is excellent with room well cleaned every day. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and found plenty of choice at breakfast, although I would like a better choice of fresh fruit. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the bus station and on this trip we took advantage of the very cheap bus fares (€2.60 for a day pass) and explored the island a littl visiting Mdina, Valletta, Silema and St Julian's. I can also highly recommend the walk over the roman road from Xemxija to Golden Bay. We will definitely return to the Dolmen, by far the best hotel in the area - My only grumble is the price of drinks in the hotel bar (€9 for a pint of beer and a small bottle of cider!) ...... In future we will drink out!!
