We went to Malta to get married having never visited the island before. We were very nervous as we had 40 of our family and friends coming with us and hoped it wouldn’t be a let down. It was a great place to go and a fantastic hotel.

We had booked to stay in one of Malta’s other well known hotels but due to a mass of building work problems (which were still going on even though the hotel was open when we went for a look) we were moved to the Dolmen.

Firstly the rooms were great, very spacious and very clean. Our air con was a bit noisy when on high and the glass shower curtain could have done with being a bit bigger but to be honest that’s the only faults we could find with the room.

The bar and waiting staff were great. They were very helpful and their English was better than most hotels I’ve stayed in. The reception staff were a bit hit and miss, some were helpful and friendly others not so much.

The food was lovely, we stayed all inclusive and never had the same meal twice. The food wasn’t very child friendly but a few days in we found out they did a separate children’s menu which the cooked to order. The waiting was a little annoying but at least the food was freshly cooked.

As we only stayed for a week and most of that we were doing wedding related errands we didn’t get to see much of the local area but from what we heard from our guests Qwara was a nice place to walk around with good restaurants and bars.

Our wedding day at the Dolmen was perfect. We booked through a travel company and our wedding co-ordinator Amanda handled all liaisons with the hotel and sorted out every last detail for us.
We had our reception on the Amazonia terrace overlooking the sea. The layout was everything we hoped for and the back drop for the photos was amazing. We were offered the temple area for the ceremony but opted to be by the sea as it was more private and the temple area was a bit smelly.

We got married late afternoon and went on to have dinner in the hotels Sibylle room. The room decoration couldn’t have been better if I had done it myself. It looked beautiful. It had its own little terraced seating area outside the doors which was a great touch.
We had a buffet meal and the food was great with so much and such a wide selection for just us. The hotel let us link up our bridesmaids’ laptop to the rooms sound system and we stayed in there for the full evening.

I would definitely recommend the Dolmen for both a holiday and wedding.

I can’t end my review without giving a mention to our fantastic photographer Alison Valletta. She was brilliant, we had access to out photos on the same evening, all of which were great! We also got to pick our edited photo CD’s and video DVD’s only 3 days later. If you’re getting married in Malta you should check out her website.

Just stayed for a week at the Dolman Resort Hotel on a self catering basis. The room was large with good facilities and a fantastic view, but although very clean was slightly dated with a corner spa bath in the bedroom! We took up an excellent deal for three evening meals and the food was a fantastic buffet including wine/drinks, I would definately recommend it. The pool areas were very good too.
There is a lot to do in Malta and Valetta is certainly worth a visit. We did the north tour and south tour of hop on hop off open top buses and had a harbour cruise thrown in which gives a good chance to see the island. The only problem was it took a while and there wasn't time to 'hop off' for long enough! (even though we started early). It might be better to get the local buses.
The local restaurants were OK but not fantastic value for money which is why we took up the hotel meal deal.
We shall certainly be back as we enjoyed our stay in Malta.

We have just got back from a week relaxing at the Dolmen Resort Hotel in St. Paul's Bay, Malta.
Check-in was very quick & easy. We were given a standard twin room on the 2nd floor which had a reasonable view of the front of the hotel looking towards St. Paul's Island, the Sea could be seen & also 3 large trees that we shaded under when it got a bit too hot! The room was very comfortable - huge in fact! To be honest for the size of the room a TV of about 42" instead of the one we had which I would say was about 32", would be idea as you are so far away from it while in bed....but then do you really take a 3 hour flight to watch TV in bed??!!!!!!! Either side of the window in a half moon shape alcove were 2 single beds, a table & 2 chairs. A double wardrobe with extra blankets & pillows if needed were in the wardrobe. The bathroom was OK, the sink was in the middle of a long shelf which took up a lot of room.
The bath could of been a bit wider as you didn't have that much room whilst having a shower, but it was clean and nicely tiled. The air conditioning was rather noisy and to be honest didn't seem to work very well, the room never felt that cool. The breakfast was excellent everything you could want, cereal, toast, fresh fruit, tea, coffee, fruit juice, water, yoghurt, saute potatoes, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, beef sausages and, although NOT everyday, bacon! The dinner was also excellent, plenty of variety, vegetables, pasta, rice, fish, beef, lamb & steak. We were on the Half Board 'plus' option which included free unlimited wine with our evening meal and the house white was very nice indeed! Another nice touch that we found out about was we could swop our dinner for lunch. All you need to do is give reception 24 hours notice. We found this made a nice change on the 3 days we lazed by the pool & in the evening we went out for dinner (Little Italy's a great place to eat!) we found the lunch menu just as excellent as the evening menu. The hotel grounds are kept nice & clean with plenty of areas on different levels to do a bit of sun bathing. We found ALL the staff very friendly and they did a great job of making our stay a very pleasant experience.
One thing I have to say that was completely OUT OF ORDER was on our first morning at the usual 'meet & greet' there was a woman present called Alex. After out Thomas Cook rep gave us all the info about the hotel & resort, this Alex said a few words about a 'free trip' to a new resort called 'Golden Bay Sands', which was a 10 minute drive away. She said we could go there have a drink & walk round the place with the view to maybe staying there sometime in the future...well she got us there in a mini bus and it was only then that the penny dropped...it was a TIMESHARE scam only called something different! We wasted 3 hours of our holiday going there. We are seasoned travellers and were quite annoyed at being conned like this. Us along with a lot of other couples were most annoyed by this hijacking of the meet & greet by the blonde woman from Surrey called ALEX...this is something that NEEDS to stop as it is a disgrace!! To be fair the following morning we had a word with our rep, a lovely Romanian girl whos name escapes me, & complained about this. In her defense it IS NOT her fault, we feel it is higher up the ladder where the blame lies or maybe this is something that needs to be brought to Thomas Cooks' attention...
Apart from the 'Timeshare' incident, we all had a lovely time & wouldn't hesitate in going back to the Dolmen Resort Hotel in Malta! Just beware of a blonde woman called Alex!

Room Tip: Try for a 3rd or 4th floor room over towards the Casino, you should get a decent view of Bubigba &am...

Good staff, nice pool areas. Booked B&B and went out for meals in evenings. The hotel was supposed to be refurbished but this had not finished when we arrived. Went from 2nd to 4th and finally 6th floor.
We should have been told about the music festival at the weekend. Boom, boom type of music from morning to midnight.

Room Tip: On arrival we had the usual wait for room, not a problem. The 1st room allocated on the 2nd floor w...

Stayed here for a week and enjoyed our stay. We were both early 30s so evening entertainment was not really for us but we tended to head out anyway. Other than that, nice pool, good view, good quality rooms.

We stayed B&B and the breakfast was excellent. You couldn't leave there hungry and particularly enjoyed their freshly baked croissants and chocolate spread!

Staff were polite and maids kept the room very clean. It's quite a quiet hotel. You get a bit of noise from the evening entertainment if your window is open but it finishes by 12 so not to bad.

Did quite a lot of research before going and this seemed like the best bet for the money. Glad we chose the Dolmen. The dive centre I went with said it was regarded as one of the best hotels on the island. Gave it 5 *'s because it was perfect for our week trip as a base. Easy to get to Gozo and around Malta.

It's close to bus terminal and Bugibba is only about a 20 minute drive from valleta with a car. Bugibba centre bars and restaurants are just down the road (5 min walk). If you want somewhere more lively go for Sliema.

Room Tip: Ask for 3rd floor or above for a better view. Sea view is worth it to enjoy while youre getting up o...

This was our first time at this hotel and were quite surprised how big it is. We paid for a room with a sea view, and asked for a high floor with a sunny balcony - got the sea view but nothing else! We were in room 205 - it was comfortable, clean, etc., but the sun only got round late afternoon, about 3.30 pm. Also, it is directly above the kitchen extracts and air conditioners, so there was constant noise, albeit not loud. If we had been staying more than a week, we would have asked to be moved. We couldn't open the balcony door, so reported it to reception. Four hours and two more calls later it was fixed.

Apart from these little hiccups, we enjoyed our stay. The food was very good and plentiful - at dinner there were at least three choices of main course plus two types of pasta. What surprised us most was the fact that there was free wine with dinner!

We didn't use the pools or fitness room etc., so can't comment on those.

I don't think anyone would be disappointed by this hotel. We think it deserves its four star rating. The staff were friendly and helpful, so no complaints there. Try it, you might like it!

Room Tip: Rooms in the centre section of the hotel get the most sun in the afternoon. Those on the very top fl...
