It was like a revelation: To be a Guest «chez Albert» is one of the best things that can happen to you in St. Paul's Bay! Check it out, feel the warm, authentic hospitality and eat «Fenech»! You will be on cloud 9 ...

“Ta, Bertu for Ta' Bertu”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

A brilliant evening spent at Ta' Bertu with exceptional local dishes in cosy surroundings. The proprietor, Bertu, takes your order, serves your drinks, cooks your food and waits your table! An amazing host. The complementary pre-starter platter is amazing in its own right and the rest of the menu continues to impress. Everything is done with care and attention. Be prepared for a lovely leisurely meal and book to avoid disappointment. Well worth a visit and then another.

“Fantastic food, good atmosphere, unbelievable value”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

First off, you need to book this restaurant a day or two in advance even in the off-season, for me it was third time lucky due to once being fully booked and once closed.
The menu is small but it is all tasty fresh stuff so whatever you choose will be good. Somehow one man manages to cook for around 25 people as well as do the waiting on and manages to have better service than quite a few restaurants. It can obviously be hard to get his attention at times but he is friendly and will take all the time in the world to tell you everything about what's on the menu if you want to hear about it.
While we were waiting for our food we were served a huge delicious platter with bread, olives, beans, tomatoes, Maltese sausages and more all for free. The sausages were cooked amazingly, crispy outside but soft in the middle and each slice melts in your mouth.
For starters we had the white bait and the Maltese soup. Both were cooked well and had real Mediterranean tastes and textures. For our main we had the bragioli and a pasta dish that wasn't on the menu. I can't compare the bragioli to any others since this was my first time having it but it was very tasty nonetheless.
These 3 courses plus drinks came to only €36.
Albertu, if you're reading this you need to hire another member of staff and raise your prices about 50%! Will definitely come again when we return to Malta.

“Maltese.........for a change :-)”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Last Saturday I went at Ta Bertu in San Pawl. Very good restaurant, everything fresh and purely Maltese. No formal menus, all food is decided and cooked on the day.
My wife and I had a main & desert. We were also delighted with a traditional Maltese platter on the house while waiting. Deserts were awesome (typical kanolli and mqaret). The bill totaled 40 Euro without wine. Recommended !!!!

“Two thumbs up !!!!”

An excellent time spent in one of the best restaurants that we have been to for our Sunday lunch. The food besides scrumptious is good value for money. Do pay ta' Bertu a visit as you will keep talking about its food experience for days. Definitely will go again and again.
