“Wonderful Meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

My wife and I were staying in a hotel in the main piazza in Montefalco on a recent tour of Umbria and our hotel recommended dinner at L'Alchimista. The recommendation was probably unnecessary because as soon as we arrived in town it seemed obvious from the numbers of patrons that it would be a good choice. For those of you who need a more reliable guide than mere numbers, I can tell you that we enjoyed a very fine meal. We started with some bruschetta to share, followed this with a generous plate of pasta with truffles and tomato, continued with beef (Mrs G enjoyed hers with rocket, pine nuts and parmesan and I had mine with a sagrantino reduction) and concluded with a dessert (and I must note that Mrs G declared her coffee dessert a triumph). The service was first class and the bill was a surprise (in a nice way).

“Silver, if not gold”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

While the outdoor seating at L'Alchimista is nondescript despite being on the Piazza del Comune, the indoor seating (two levels) is warm, intimate and rustic with exposed wood & brick and, upstairs, shelves of goods for sale. Service is attentive and competent, although having Italian is a big plus. An extensive list of local wines is available, including several 375ml bottles.
The cuisine takes an innovative approach to local traditions, usually with success. Among these are the "warm cheese" appetizers. The radicchio salad with prosciutto, pear and melted cheese combined all the flavors and textures admirably. The involiti of eggplant was even better; thin slices of lightly sauced eggplant wrapped in crespelle (crepe) and resauced was light, delicate and fully flavored. The Lasagna Alchimista was stuffed with porcini and radicchio, bound with only a trace of tomato paste and sauced with a besciamella. The secondo was the only disappointment; the "napoleon" of roast pork and eggplant with a wine and hazel-nut sauce neither presented the flavors of the individual ingredients nor offered a harmonious new taste.
Overall, this is a restaurant of quality and promise, well worth a visit.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

We had lunch here on a morning trip to the town. The setting is beautiful - in the old town square of Montefalco - and there was enough going on to keep our little boy entertained while we had a 2 course lunch. Fresh bread was served with our dishes and the food was very tasty and well presented. The staff were friendly and attentive.

“Beautiful Italian Umbrian food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

This lovely little restaurant in the beautiful little town or montefalco is a not to miss gem if you are a food lover. The setting in the restaurant is very nice, the waiters are friendly, happy and very very helpful. The food is in one word amazing. We tried a variation of dishes and each was perfect! The style is traditional Umbrian cocking mixed with some modern and original twists. The desserts are even better........

“Eccellente”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

We have eaten at this restaurant many times and taken many friends there. Everyone agrees that the food is excellent with imaginative menus to fit in with the seasons. As a vegetarian it makes a refreshing change to see choices outside of the normal range available. Service can sometimes be slow, especially when it is very busy but this does not mean the staff don't care.

I find it incredible that some people choose to criticise this family business over minor issues when the whole experience is a good one
