My wife and I were staying in a hotel in the main piazza in Montefalco on a recent tour of Umbria and our hotel recommended dinner at L'Alchimista. The recommendation was probably unnecessary because as soon as we arrived in town it seemed obvious from the numbers of patrons that it would be a good choice. For those of you who need a more reliable guide than mere numbers, I can tell you that we enjoyed a very fine meal. We started with some bruschetta to share, followed this with a generous plate of pasta with truffles and tomato, continued with beef (Mrs G enjoyed hers with rocket, pine nuts and parmesan and I had mine with a sagrantino reduction) and concluded with a dessert (and I must note that Mrs G declared her coffee dessert a triumph). The service was first class and the bill was a surprise (in a nice way).
