We have had lunch here every time we are in Montefalco. Pietro the owner always makes the experience lots of fun. The food is typical Umbrian and we hear the thin crust pizzas are the best. One of my favourites is the "ceci soup" (chickpea). The restaurant is full of memorabilia - Pietro collects corkscrews. It is located right on the main uphill street that goes up through the main part of the old town. Great food, great prices, and lots of fun.

We ordered two take away pizzas to enjoy in our little villa. While the pizza base was ok, I could not believe that they had used tin mushrooms which tasted awful. The proscutto crudo ordered on the other one was substituted with plain ham. I am not sure if they thought being non-italians that we wouldn't notice but I have eaten pizza all over Italy (and elsewhere) and these were definitely well below standard. They were not even busy on that day so can not cliam they had run out!

Located in the main street of Montefalco (between the Porta Sant Agostino and Piazza Comunale), on your right side when you ascent the road. Nice street view from the terrace. Here you come for the delicious, thin and crispy pizza's (lot of choise), the Umbrian prices, the overwhelming decoration (musical instruments, photo's, self-made objects, etc.) and off course ... the friendly Pietro and his staff who are always in for a laugh and give free drinks depending on their mood. Typical Umbrian dishes. Large wine list. Pietro knows everything about the Montefalco Rosso and Sagrantino wine so don't hesitate to ask something about it. Il Verziere has everything you want about an Italian (Umbrian) restaurant!

We always when visiting the town find time to pop in here ........the irrepressible owner Pietro makes the infirm, dispossessed and itinerant a part of his enthusiastic life having the rare “C”(charm) gene where bonhomie means the food is not necessarily the main game.
This Trattoria has ambience, friendly repartee plus his obvious pleasure culminates in a
free nites entertainment. The interactive nature of the chatter, blues, other tables and
the never ending supply of limincello and grappa poste hoc du proc almost diminish the
intrusion of good food.
The food was excellent on this visit ....better than the previous so feel very comfortable in sending friends there.
The idea of coperto (bread money) with this style of service is not usurious to the wary
traveller unused to this Italian nuance.

Il Verziere might not have the best food in Montefalco, but it is our family's favourite. Sometimes a restaurant is more than the sum of its menu, and this is the case here. We've gone to Il Verziere for 10 years. The first summer my 6 year old would have trouble staying awake to Italian dinner times, but if Pietro saw us loitering outside, he'd open early for us. They welcome us back every summer with shouts of "I Canadese!" and we've spent some of the best nights of our lives devouring the pizzas and finishing the lemoncello. I can't wait to return this summer.
