“Whistle while you work ..”
Reviewed July 11, 2014

This is the second time we visited this region of Tuscany and 'Osteria' is a true gem . There is nothing pretentious about the place , offering excellent local cuisine, reasonable prices ,friendly atmosphere and normally packed with locals out dining. Andrea the owner is so welcoming and is known for whistling during service. We all had a number of dishes including wild boar, rabbit and my favourite was 'Tuscan stew'. There is also a small delicatessen on the side of the restaurant , which also serves coffee which I took advantage of a few occasions on my way to one of our day trips .

“Wonderful food, charming proprietor, and a true Tuscan experience”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

My husband and I ate dinner here after a sunset ride with Shannon at La Fiaba stables one town away. It was the perfect ending to a fairytale day in the Tuscan countryside. My husband and I stuck out like a sore thumb in this cozy place filled local diners, but other than a little awkwardness with us using the charger as a bread plate and getting some odd looks, we felt very welcome and at home. (just pour the olive oil on the slices of bread and eat it :) The cheerful owner keeps everyone entertained with jokes, whistling like a songbird, zooming around to take care of everyone, and creating an art gallery on the walls from pictures drawn by children diners on their placemats that double as canvas. It was so wonderful to see the closeness of each family at dinner, not a cell phone in sight, people talking, laughing, enjoying each other's company. And you can tell the owner loves being the at the heart of all the happiness in this little village. Sit back, relax, drink some wine, and enjoy the amazing local fare. My husband had roasted rabbit that was to die for, and my boar pasta ragu was delicious. I would recommend a reservation (we didn't have one and were still graciously accommodated) but it is the polite thing to do we learned when dining at a smaller, family run business. It is more like RSVPing to a dinner party than a reservation, with everyone's name written on their respective tables. This meal and experience was a shining star in our two weeks tour of Italy that took us from Venice, to Cinque Terre, to Florence, to Chianti, to Rome. If we are ever lucky enough to make it back, we will certainly make a trip for another excellent meal.

“Wonderful experience! Great food.”
Reviewed June 2, 2014

It was suggested by a Canadian couple who reside in a villa near San Vivaldo, to tour the Sacro Monte di San Vivaldo monastery and then lunch at Osteria Ristorante in the village. What a great tip! We thoroughly enjoyed the lively and friendly atmosphere, interesting and joyful decor, and particularly the owners' whistling abilities. It is the perfect place for a group of friends.

“A lovely atmosphere and great food”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

This restaurant has a great atmosphere where people draw on their place mats and the most imaginative ones adorn the walls.

The staff are friendly and casually dressed which gives it a laid back feel. The portions are generous - we shared a starter and the meat dishes are very large but do save room for pudding - we had panna cotta and warm chocolate torte which were both delicious.

Overall it cost 60 euros for 3 1/2 courses each for two plus house wine/beer so good value for money

“a welcoming restaurant”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

No complaints here, the service was good and very friendly. The food was well cooked and ample. When we were there (end September) there were far more tourists than locals there. The dining room is a little primitive but this is a local, rustic sort of place, so that is OK.

Parking is difficult.
