We came here to see the state capitol, but the park clearly surpassed our expectations as did this area of the city. The statues are quite remarkable, especially George Washington's and Robert E Lee's. The stairs that go down to the entrance to the capitol afford a great view over the city.

See part of history- enjoy the southern docents. See the only statue of George Washington carved from life-- i.e. he actually posed for it. This is a gem in the hert of Richmond not to be missed. It's free and great to bring history to life for school age children.

It's Richmond, there is history on every block. The state capital building is a great sight to look at and do not forget it is now showing up in a few recent movies.

This beautiful place is something to behold. It can get exciting from time to time though, if there's a protest going on...

Enter the Capital Building at the underground entrance. Walk thru the new section with wonderful info on the Civil War decision of Virginia to secede and begin the Civil War. Walk on to the rotunda and see the only statute of George Washington that was sculpted from his posing. The whole building was recently renovated because of maintenance issues, and is now a Must See for Free.
