We decided to come here after we read lots of good reviews about it on yelp. And it didn't disappoint.
We tasted the cinnamon and the chocolate&peanut donuts. Both were very yummy and fresh.
For 2 donuts and a coffee (including tip), we paid $5.

The best doughnuts I've ever had, in any state, ever. Like any type of speciality shop... the quantity and variety changes on an hourly basis. Every trip there is an adventure, the doughnuts are delicious, and the price is so reasonable.

Sugar Shack is one of those places that has become wildly popular, seemingly overnight. They offer a varying selection of high quality doughnuts & a few other baked goodies. Their doughnuts are superior to anything you'll find at the popular chains.
Ironically, the Sugar Shack's quality is what currently makes a visit somewhat challenging. Just getting in the door can be an adventure, because the parking lot is small, the lines of customers can be long, and the shop is small. There is a neighboring gravel parking lot that you are warned against using.
This is a small operation, and they make doughnuts as fast as they can, but the selection may be limited because of the number of patrons. Prices are also high. This is a place to treat yourself if you can get in the door. On my visits, the staff has been cheerful & friendly.

Maple brown sugar with bacon, cinnamon rolls and apple fritters are to die for. Really can't go wrong with any of their delicious donuts but the 3 listed about definitely won't let you done. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the coffee. Coffee lacks flavors. I enjoy medium to bold coffee and coffee had little to no flavor at all. This is the second time I've tried their coffee in hopes that I would like it but still no go for me.

Gosh, we went with the highest hopes for this place. We have been watching and waiting for it to open. We saw the reviews and went with every expectation of having our donuts dreams come true. We went on a Saturday late morning. The line was out the door, the decor is excellent -current with a nod to the past, our excitement built.......
here is where our disappointment began, the line was so long due to the fact that though friendly, the place is still disorganized. The donuts are not labeled requiring every drooling buyer to ask what each one is, the drink guy who could be doing something else is just standing there, the girl at the register was counting out money from the tip jar while attempting to ring people up (did she need change or what, but counting it out in front of line of 15-20 people???) So we thought okay, they haven't been open that long, maybe they just need to get a few things ironed out, if the donuts are delicious we will forget the process. But, they did not have a wow factor in our donut world. We had the chocolate cake with plain glaze and the glazed pumpkin. Admittedly the selection on this particular time and day was fairly slim. We covet Country Style for their freshness and old fashioned prototype. We plan to hit up Dixie Donuts for the eclectic taste buds and see if they will renew our donut excitement. However, with all that said, we are glad they have opened up in Richmond. We'll go back in a few weeks and see if they have figured a few ways to smooth out their system.
