Review of Deep Run Roadhouse

Deep Run Roadhouse
Ranked #116 of 1,640 Restaurants in Richmond
Certificate of Excellence
Cuisines: Barbecue
Description: Deep Run Roadhouse serves delicious regional BBQ, Tex-Mex and Comfort Food. All of our dishes are prepared daily from the best local ingredients with specialties including smoked meats and made from scratch sides. Owner Paul Hubbard is a native of the neighborhood in which his restaurant is located. Hubbard is a graduate of the Culinary Arts Program at Hermitage Technical Center and has held chef positions in some of the area's finest restaurants. Those family-owned restaurants taught him the importance of hospitality, attention to detail and creating an exciting, flavorful and unique menu. In 2009, he opened Alamo BBQ in Church Hill and realized affordable and comforting food appealed to a lot larger audience. What his audience wanted to eat became his favorite thing to cook. Alamo BBQ's success is a testament to the fact Richmond loves BBQ and comfort food. The two cuisines go hand in hand and are loved by all. Deep Run Roadhouse proudly offers the very best of both and provides delicious offerings for all cravings or diets. Its smoked portabello mushrooms, soups, salads and fresh made sides can satisfy any vegetarian or BBQ lover. All menu items are prepared daily, utilizing the freshest, local ingredients. Deep Run Roadhouse operates on one of Hubbard's favorite sayings: "Never think you're smarter than the food you cook, or the people you cook for."

I tried Deep Run Roadhouse with colleagues on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. I had a two meat combination of beef brisket and pork. The brisket was moist with a smokey flavor and the sauce complemented the flavor of the meat. The pork was also moist and tasty. Will definitely go back soon!

A nice alternative to the Short Pump chains. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table like Panera. The server checked back to make sure we were good. The beef brisket was excellent, The Mac and cheese, corn bread, green beans were all flavorful. The blackened tilapia portion was small but flavorful. The sweet potatoes were really yams that were very good. They have a nice beer selection. A great place to take the family out without breaking the bank. Get there early or you may have to wait for a table. There was a line at the door at 7pm on a Wednesday evening.

The brisket was moist, but it lacked any additional flavor. The mac and cheese was basic, and again not alot of flavor. The service was fine, but overall the food didn't give me that knock me down flavor I was expecting.

This is a fairly new restaurant to the Richmond area, but well worth trying.

Their beef brisket and smoked sausage are by far the best we've had in Richmond.

The place is a little small with limited seating, and tight booths, so you may want to consider take out.

We will be going again and again.
