This place is amazing in every way, from their hand made limeade to the enormous blocks of sweet cornbread. Great country sea food. Bring your appetite!

“Soul Food to the Rescue”
Reviewed April 12, 2007

This is a great place to go after church on Sunday when you're wanting to eat food that will stick to your bones. The entrees come with a huge brick of cornbread that is to die for. And you must try their buffalo shrimp. I had the crab cakes that were so mmmmMmmm good. Portion sizes are huge! But the place is small. Get there as early as you can for lunch or else you'll find the line wrapping around the corner outside. But don't worry, you can still get a plate by ordering takeout if you want.

It's not much on the inside, but, it's a cool atmoshphere to be in while you're in the Jackson Ward district. They have old school R&B playing and everyone is just in a really good mood. You'll feel like you're at a family reunion - but everybody likes each other because at least you have the food in common.

Don't think about ordering fine wines or anything like that -- the waitstaff has no idea about the differences between a Pinot Grigio and a Chardonnay. So, if you order those, expect that you'll get whatever the waitress brings you because all she does is tell the bartender that she needs, and I quote, "I need a corona, a coke and a pinot grigio white wine or something whatever." To which the bartender simply pours from whatever bottle he's currently got open. So, go for the food and the cultural experience, not for fine dining.
