I usually go here for Dinner. For those in the know, there are only 2 seatings, 7 and 9 pm and if you make reservations your entire party has to be present to get your table. The staff has a reputation for being a little brash but that doesn't bother me, because the food is so good.
But, this visit was for lunch and we walked right in and got a seat and enjoyed a great lunch of good Italian Food!

Lentil soup and eggplant parmesan were very good. A bit noisy but far from the worst. My son had that veggie lasagna and it was also very good.

My son's uber hip son who is in the restaurant scene in Richmond directed us to Mamma Zu. It has boards over the windows and a subtle sign above, never would have found it without recommendation.
It was amazing, the squid, white bean and arugula appetizer was delicious and prepared just right, plenty of squid, cooked to perfection. The pasta was covered with an oil, garlic and mushroom preparation that was just this side of paradise. The soft shell crabs were big, juicy and cooked with crispy outside and tender inside, and not a drop too much oil.
Three of us happily shared these three dishes and a bottle of wine and a tiramasu and got out of there for under $100. It is almost worth another cross country flight to go there again. (And I live in Portland, food capital of the Northwest).

The wait staff is VERY rude and the menu is hard to see unless you walk up to the bar to see it. Will not be back.

I had the Black Sea Bass and it was fantastic. Beer prices are reasonable.
